I love Undertale, it's a really solid game (despite the cancerous fanbase), but Earthbound is one of my favourite games of all time, so I can't say I like Undertale better than Earthbound.

I really love earthbound for its unique exploration and rpg complexity, whereas undertale I really love for its variety of memorable characters, a wonderful story, and the fact that it's meant to be played more than once to get the full potential out of it. So I guess maybe I'd say undertale is a tiny bit better, but I guess I would have to play earthbound and undertale again back to back to go with my overall conclusion.

+The Leaderboard. Why does everyone have to argue over which game is better!? They both have charming and memorable characters a great soundtrack and a great battle system! BOTH Fandom's have they're bad parts. Most of the Undertale fans Havent even PLAYED Earthbound and the Earthbound fans are blinded by nostalgia! As I Said they're both great games, So why cant we just agree on that and stop arguing!?

A toxic fan base should never be the reason why you hate a game. Just because their are some weird people on the internet, it shouldn’t affect how you see a game. Undertale is a great game about learning to love your enemies and it’s disappointing to see so many people brush it away because of some bad apples in the fandom. Earthbound was an amazing experience and inspired many people to make games of there own. I’m actually replaying Earthbound for the second time now because I finished it a few days ago. No matter which one you like best, they are both great games that have impacted so many players in a delightful way

I’m glad that undertale exists, earthbound is a good game, a really good game actually. But it was released a long time ago. Right now I’m playing earthbound. But I would have never wanted to try it if it wasn’t from undertale, and rn I cant decide if earthbound or undertale is better. For story (and making me cry which rarely happens in games) that would go to undertale (even tho I probably shouldn’t say that yet, I still haven’t finished earthbound yet) but gameplay (walking around in the over world) that goes to earthbound. Combat is good for both games in my opinion. But all I am saying is, it’s one thing people criticize undertale just because of its fan base, but I don’t understand how people are gonna criticize it for “copying” earthbound. Undertale was inspired by earthbound, and the story is different as well.earthbound is live-like and more human (which why I enjoy it) and undertale is more emotional and story driven for me. So if your argument to this is that undertale copied earthbound, think again. And to the people who dislike undertale because of the fanbase, just ignore it! If you are gonna use that as your argument anyways, say that the fanbase is “cancer”, not undertale, it had nothing to do with the fanbase

I think you're forgetting that you don't kill enemies in Earthbound. All enemies turn back to normal after you defeat them. So, you don't kill any enemies, you rescue them.

I haven't been able to play either Earthbound or Undertale due to limited internet connections but one of my friends HAS played UNDERTALE and told me about it and told me how fantastic it is, so I watched MatPat on Game Theory talk about both Undertale & Earthbound, I watched Random Encounters 'Three Fates of Undetale' and quite a few Fan-Made Songs by the Man On The Internet, as well as watching Markiplier play Undertale, AND the 107 Facts, I wish I could play UNDERTALE, I wish Toby Fox would port it to the Switch or PS4 or something, then I could enjoy the game, instead of hearing how great it is, I could experience it myself

I've never played Earthbound, so Undertale has to be my favorite. Undertale has memorable characters you care about, a beautiful soundtrack, wonderful landcapes, and so much more. I also don't judge a GAME by its FANBASE. The Undertale fanbase is actually better than what you think it is.

In my opinion Earthbound is better I'm already playing mother 3 and so far it's AWESOME!!

The games are so similar, but the fanbase so different. Undertale started out smoothly, with the fanbase being people who enjoyed the game and then the game became popular, it started to get... Unnatural. The earthbound fandom came from the few people who actually got the game, since it was never popular. It never grew a bad fanbase, sooon when more people heard of the game. The fans are starved for content, and romhacks were like dlc for earthbound! Then a dog came and made a halloween hack donning the name "radiation". Later he thought "i want to make an RPG"! And so he made Undertale. And it repeats.

It took me 3 months to beat Earthbound and at first I was like Ugggh Grinding then after a while I enjoyed fighting enemies Unlike UnderTale when I was playing it took way to much time (Without killing anything)

New Acc Rackkets in Earthbound you don't really have to grind that much unless you want every rare item however in earthbound beginnings there is gonna be a lot of grinding and with a lot I mean a lot and hours long

Mother 3 > Undertale Mother 3 is in my opinion the best game in the Mother series. It's very plot heavy, and loves to just tear your heart apart. No seriously, I think the plot is about how Lucas manages to stay strong after so much tragedy. I won't spoil what happens, but it's literally impossible to not cry while playing Mother 3. And hey, you get to connect with some of the other characters in the game by playing as them in the first 3 chapters! -though I have to admit, the Salsa chapter wasn't too great until the end.- Mother 3 takles real life problems that some people can relate to. The character's reactions to tragedy can be realistic too. Undertale may be about mercy and friendship, but Mother 3 is about staying strong no matter what.

If I had to pick either of these games and say which is better, I'd (without a shadow of a doubt) say undertale because of a few things 1. Music: I found almost all of the songs in undertale memorable, amazing, and fitting (I'm not saying that earthbound didn't have music like this), with earthbound's music I can't find one song that I can definitely say I like 2. Characters: this one's pretty simple, I found the characters in undertale more memorable and likeable than the characters in earthbound, simple as that And finally 3. FEELZ: now I will admit both of these games had some good feelz, but earthbound only made me tear up while undertale made me literally cry several times Earthbound: 9/10 Undertale: 10/10

I actually thought this Theory was all a joke. But seeing the comments section and this video made me realize… This is an actual thing. OMG, in my opinion I don't think Ness is Sans, yeah, Undertale may have some references to Earthbound series but I don't think THAT kind of references!

Undertale was merely a fad. Earthbound still has a very strong and relevant fanbase despite it being over 20 years old. The Earthbound / Mother series can be seen as something timeless, and not a product of the era. Undertale on the other hand oozes with aged themes and memes. I find Earthbound to have an INCREDIBLE soundtrack, with over 200 songs under its belt. While I found Undertale's catchy, the compositions of Earthbound are something extraordinary. Just an opinion, coming from someone who used to like Undertale.
