I used curve optimizer at -11 alongside a cpu tdp lock of 70W on my Legion 5 pro (7745hx and 4060). Although I could see lower temps while running Cinebench R23 multicore, temperature would rise to 95°C and above while gaming.

any tips on how to undervolt the ryzen 7 7745hx? LEgion pro 5 with rtx 4070. atuv software doesnt work with AMD dragon range currently. I tried changing the curves in the bios but cant get the temps down

I am actually running the 7940HS at 20-25W without big compromises in performance, it's an incredible chip in the 15-30W range

Downside of target locking voltage is that if you are using external monitor and its hardwired to gpu then gpu is always running at that locked voltage, so you have higher power consumption and higher temps. Thats just my observation on my asus tuf a15 with nvidia

Hey, i do have 2 questions: Is overclocking affecting lifespan of the components? Do i need to intiate afterburner every time to apply changes or with pressing the windows button in afterburner is enough?

if you stress test your overclock or undervolt gpu with 3dmark or other applications for let say 30 minutes and it passes. It's totally safe, plus you can prolong your lifespan of your components due to lower temperature and voltage. And yes you need to set your afterburner at startup to apply the overclock profile

Hi I really like your detailed info. Best around Ive got the msi GP68 HX 12V RTX 4080. trying to get the highest most satble UV and OC lol guess like all. You started OC at 975mv Im wondering should I start at a higher mv since the RTX 4080 has a higher TDP than the RTX 4060 mine is 175w? Long question sorry

Each laptop/gpu config/driver/bios might be different. I would run timespy in a loop and monitor the voltage curve with Afterburner to see where the driver/bios tries to set the voltage by default. Then I would drop and lock like -50 mv from there the stock voltage and try to keep similar clockspeed to what I was getting at the higher stock voltage. This should give similar performance but with lower temps. You can tweak from there until you find the best blend of performance, thermals, and temps

Aren't overclocking and undervolting essentially the same thing in MSI Afterburner, i. e. shifting the frequency/voltage curve to squeeze the most MHz per watt?

Not really but they're similar. Overclocking is getting your core or mem to run as high as possible while being stable. Overvolting is lowering the voltage to the point of just being stable so you have less heat/overhead. You can do both at the same time if you want, first just see where it's stable at max power, then see how far you can drop the voltage at the given frequency. So ideally you could overclock it and undervolt to keep the temp where it was at when stock. Essentially free performance gains. Or you can strictly undervolt at stock frequencies and lower the temps from stock.

Is there no video where I can limit GPU utilization. Because when my gpu utilisation is 98/99 my fps drops to 2. But if it is 97% below I'm getting best fps of 70-130 fps with high graphics

Disable procesor turbo boost, and lower graphic card voltage and some mhz. Laptop will thank you, almost same performance. For benchmarks you can use what you want, then revert it. If you can add some diy cooling fan, your temp will not hit 70 C, and idle 40 C.

In what country? Alaska 🤣 have strix g15 and fan with this setup barely run, no more than 3000 rpm. Just try it, on your lenovo 7 slim. Laptop procesor are better used then laptop gpu. You cant compare 300w gpu vs 130 w in laptop. While the procesor are preety close, but they are heating all components faster.

This video could not have come at a better time, as I just bought this laptop a week ago (after watching your review no less)! Though I've done some light overclocking years ago, I've never played around with this stuff on any laptop I've owned, and I'm actually impressed with how great the RTX 4000 series can scale. I've undervolted and overclocked mine mostly so I can get lower temps and fan noise rather than max performance, being that I'll really mostly use this to play older, smaller games and use Steam Remote Play with my living room TV for the heavier stuff, so I don't really NEED max performance. This video was super informative and helpful to do just that.

@m.mugadam7692 bruh... absolute massive thanks for this tip! Steam Remote Play is good, but you're absolutely right. I'm getting next to no latency on 4k 120 AND this actually supports HDR. If anyone else is reading this and has a similar use case to mine, give this a shot. Thanks again, dude!

@@zzz-cb3xe That's exactly what I do. When I'm at home, I have my laptop in my living room to use as a Moonlight streaming client, while my desktop in my room is used as a Sunshine stream host. Both are connected to each other through 2.5gbit wired ethernet, so I have the benefit of playing games at 4k 120hz without high laptop thermals or noise. When I'm traveling though, I typically just play stuff at 1080p so I don't have the issues either.

I watched the live version and tried copying everything, but it isn't shown how to make the Afterburner profile 1 (the balanced one), just profile 3 (the one for maximum performance). After applying undervolt initial value of -10 and getting test carried out. When multicore test finishes only one cycle I am trying the laptop is getting blue screen error. Twice tried and twice the same. Absolute quality video showcasing Undervolting on the otherwise subpar low tier 40 series mobile gpu's, as well as the Undervolt via Curve Offset for the prodigious Zen 4 7945Hx (for primarily gaming the 8 core 7745Hx would be preferable while being cheaper as well ontop of being more power efficient and easier to cool). Some disappointing stock cooling on this laptop for the 4060, but Undervolting helps patch up the thermal throttling, and even allows an Overclock to be coupled with the Undervolt. Was surprised to see the 4060 at stock go over 100w, since based on Jarrod's video from a couple months ago, all the low end 40 series mobile cards (4050, 4060, 4070) were artificially limited by Nvidia to not actually go over 100w regardless of the alleged and imaginary "140w" that laptops were advertising (as opposed to previous generation rtx cards like the 3070 that could hit the full 140w with dynamic boost and at the least hits up to the stock 125w). Haven't been paying much attention to the mobile 40 series cards these past couple months (waiting for the only relevant midrange gpu's this generation, the Rdna 3 Navi 32 mobile gpu's), but perhaps Nvidia lifted the Limit so now these crippled cards can pull a bit more wattage.

RTX 4060 laptop equals to RTX 4060 desktop, so there is that, this is a 1080p gpu anyway with 8gb vram.

@@manuelmunguia616 It constantly ships on 1440p laptop models, and it's ill suited to that resolution with only 8gb of vram and it's terrible memory bandwidth due to the 128 bit bus. It also performs consistently behind my over 2 year old full power mobile 3070, which cam be found at cheaper prices than a lot of the 4060 laptops (as can 3070ti laptop deals,including bangers at the ~1k range). Still as mediocre as the 4060 is, atleast it's not as much of an abomination as the mobile 4070..

Is it normal to have 110c VRAM temps? I got my 4050 stable at 2610Mhz@950mV and the VRAM passes 100c when the GPU temp is only 70c and the hotspot is at 85c. As the temps of the rest of the GPU rise, it gets to 110c pretty quick. I have not dared overclocking it given how hot it gets at base clock speeds.

That isn’t good for longevity. It seems like the vram might not have thermal pads, or they’re low quality. Try the new arctic ones. I’ve found they perform much better than the thermalright pads. Of course this means opening your gpu, so maybe just adjust your fan curve if you’re scared to open it.
