I've done that! Questioning and even laughing at myself even as I reached for the dial. More humorous is doing it while hubby drove and we saw an accident almost happen. I questioned myself, but didn't laugh...until I watch as he turns his head slowly to my hand on the dial, then to my face, the dial, my face, two slow blinks, and to the road. He married me for a reason. I see with my ears, taste with my nose, hear with my eyes and smell with my mouth. All other parts work normal, but I do wear my heart on my sleeve.

The train engineer had already applied the emergency brake. When the collision occurred the speed of the train was probably 10 mph at most. Remember the wheel rail interface is very small and the adhesion coefficient is really low compared to that of an automobile. A freight train travelling at 69 mph needs over a mile to come to a complete stop.

The dust devil, at about 9:29, in the clip reminded me of my dad. He grew up in western Kansas during the "dirty" 1930's dust bowl days. One of his fondest memories was jumping into the large dust devils that frequented the area. He and his siblings would be tossed around a bit, laughing and having a good time on natures free amusement park ride. He said it was all fun except for the dirt that filtered into their overalls. He said they always looked like they had taken dust baths, they were so filthy dirty!

I did that at my uncle’s ranch in Texas. It looks pretty harmless until you feel the wind pick you up like you’re a feather. Dirt in my eyes, ears, nose, mouth, everywhere,🤣🤣, but as a 10 year old boy with other 9-13 year olds, we never had so much fun. Our mothers wanted to kill us😡. An F4 had just been reported about 25 miles away from us 😳. So that ended the fun that day.

My dad, my husband and I were driving along the Pennsylvania Turnpike shortly before Christmas about 30 years ago when we saw a woman pulled over by the side of the road with her car on fire. We stopped and helped her get all of her stuff out of the car, including all of her Christmas shopping, and then just stood with her and watched it burn while we waited for the fire department. At least she was OK and we managed to get all her stuff out.

5:00 Private pilot here. That instructor did exactly what we are trained to do. They picked the best landing location, set up for the approach, then treated it like any other landing... even if the engine was dead (prop is stopped in the video so engine failure is a very real possibility... tho the instructor may have chosen to "secure" the engine prior to landing). The dump truck collision reminds me of an incident I witnessed in a factory I worked in. A co-worker was driving a tall forklift with a standup cab along an aisle. He didn't realize it but his shirt sleeve was caught on the lever which raises the forks behind him. Because he was headed right for a ceiling conduit full of high-voltage lines, several of us yelled for him to stop ... which he did only a foot away. It's likely he'd have been fried if he'd struck it.

Several years ago I was driving through a town at 30 miles an hour when a *very small* dust devil popped up near me, running into the back of my minivan. It picked the back end off the ground, spun it sideways and dropped the rear into the lane beside me! That dust devil was shorter than my van in height. Sooo much smaller than the one in this vid. It astonished me how powerful that little twist of air was. I cannot imagine thinking it would be safe to get near the one recorded, and it definitely could pick up a person!

Number of years ago, a trailer truck got stuck on the hump of a set of tracks and was hit by the train. The truck driver had followed all the rules, but found out a few days later, that the incident was actually the fault of the company he was hauling slate for. The owner of the company, instead of spreading the load onto several trucks, tampered with the scales, so the truck driver was carrying several tons more total weight than the truck was rated for, so did not have the power to make it over the rails, getting stuck.

Everyone in the US needs to know: At every train crossing there is a telephone number to call. If you are stuck on the track for any reason, you need to immediately call that number. Doing this is the only real way to quickly and accurately get incoming trains to stop before it's too late. 911 and police should be the 2nd call you make, not the 1st. It will take an eternity for the police to get through to the right train dispatcher for that area, where as you calling that posted number and giving them the crossing ID number that is also posted will let the rail dispatcher warn trains on that section of the line to stop.

With all due respect, Underworld (from a railroader perspective), with regards to the train hitting the truck, the conductor is responsible for all of the cars that make up the train, not the engines themselves. The engineer is the one who drives the train, typically from the lead engine. He would be the one blowing the whistle and applying the brakes, not the conductor. As for the sounding of the "horn," train engines are equipped with whistles and not horns. Nevertheless, your "10 Incredible Road Moments Caught On Camera" is a great compilation of outstanding footage. Love what you do! Thanks for posting.

When I was a kid a huge boulder rolled off the mountain and blocked an entire lane of route 421 in Leslie County, Kentucky. The boulder was as wide as the lane and as tall as my school bus. We had to drive around it for days before it was finally blasted out with dynamite. It's only blind luck that no cars were there for it to hit when it rolled there.

I agree, this is why video from the origin of where the dump truck needs to be taken so that it can be used as a counter to a car driver's cell phone video, which is only telling the point of the story from the person in the car filming it's point of view. The video that's used in this list doesn't show everything just everything from the car driver's point of view and not the construction site/truck origin's point of view. This phone/dashcam video isn't valid evidence that the truck driver is dumb...it's just playing on our assumption that they are. I think the driver of the truck was unaware that the bed wasn't locked down after bringing it down so that the faulty valve could push it back up slowly. Maybe it isn't the driver but the mechanic's (that let this truck be used because probably he didn't do a very detailed check of the bed hydraulics and just allowed it to be used in that condition) fault.

the sad thing for that moving truck is its very possible that overly high crossing might have been the only path to the destination. Overall I do kinda think aside from drivers finding alt routes any way possible(I think Truck focused GPS and maps help with this) but also the state DOT should probably roll some dozers and push the crossing flatter. probably not too costly to bring some dump trucks in and even out the road grade more as you cant really alter the RR as even a minor elevation change can need huge amounts of track alteration as trains do not like going up hills.

In the 60's Driving a tipper truck, and unloading on a Northern site. I watched another driver as his enormous body-load of coal rose slowly up, as he stood reading a newspaper, just as the tailgate swung open a bit late the whole outfit slowly toppled over on its side. He was almost in tears, and should have been more attentive as to placing the truck level before tipping. The weighbridge operator related that the truck had just been bought, and it was his first day out with it!
