Dirk did it all by himself. He never had any all-stars with him after Nash left. Dirk always had former all-stars with him -- after their prime. Dallas never could land the big free agents, even though Dirk gave away millions in salary so that they could sign some better players.

I've never heard anyone bring this up - 1999-2014 we only had 4 different teams as western conference champions - Lakers (x7), Spurs (x6), Mavericks (x2), Thunder (x1). That alone shows the "elite" company that Dirk's Mavericks held with Kobe's Lakers and Duncan's Spurs. Also, Dirk did carry his team. In his 14 yrs as an all-star, he played with few other all-stars (6 aggregate Allstar appearances): Michael Finley (AS 2000, 2001), Josh Howard (AS 2007), Jason Kidd (2010), Steve Nash (2002, 2003). Most of his success came with no other all-star teammates. Ginobli had Duncan (15x AS), Tony Parker (6x AS), and Kawhi Leonard (2x AS) for a total of 23 aggregate Allstar appearances. Also, Skip is a Spurs fan, so he's biased anyway...

@@soccercodes7943 HAHAHAHAHA you must be as dumb, if not dumber, than Skip... First of all, Dirk had a ring basically stolen by the refs in 2006, then he redeemed himself in 2011. Secondly, the man changed the way 7 footers played the game, Manu didn't change anything except for popularizing the Eurostep because he was so herky-jerky when he played... and 3rd, 4 rings to 1... That 1 ring means more than all 4 of Manu's because Manu was carried to rings and the finals by his HOF teammates; whereas Dirk had to lead his team. He was by far, the best player on the 2011 Mavericks, which was one of the most surprising championship winning teams of all time. Nuff said.

Ginobili was not being carried by Duncan, ginobili was the mvp of 2005 and 2014 by far, popvovich admitted that without ginobili her is no championships, ginobili has a the best winning percentage in the history of the nba with atleast 1000 games, one a one ginobili beat dirk in the playoffs nearly every time, so I think u are the dumb one for not knowing history or valid arguments,

However, no offence these guys pales in comparison to the Lakers and Spurs with what Shaq and Duncan had. Nicolas Alejandro Delrio yeah I also saw him playing under the greatest power fowards of all tome and having the luxury of coming off the bench and playing a specific specialized role of Tim’s greatness. Is Sam jones better than dirk too? He was a great player for Boston and won 10 titles. He benefitted from the greatness of Bill Russell and red Auerbach innovative fast-break system. What’s the difference between Manu and Sam jones? You wouldn’t dare say Sam jones was better than dirk.

And i remember wininng against Duncan (as you Said the best pf) Allen iverson, etc, all in their prime. I dont remember dirk winning anithing outside the NBA (one trophy). Ginóbili was 1 gold medal, 1 bronze medal, 4 place Beijing, silver medal world championship (germany was 3), silver medal juniors world championship AND another tournaments un América. So in 20 years of competence dirk winning one trophy and Ginóbili won everything, being a second round pick that come to the NBA with 26 years. He didnt develope His skills in the NBA AND evento though he won some things. Im sure you are the kind of guy who loves stadistics while Ginóbili won absoluty everything he played, everything.

Dirk was so clutch in 2011 finals. I remembered last 2 minutes of every game in the finals he starts making crazy shots and there's nothing they can do to stop him, it was like watching a 7 foot Michael Jordan

Dirk was the best player on that championship team. He had an unstoppable shot and changed the way game was played for big men. Manu is a terribly underated player, and that's largely because of his unselfishness, accepting the 6th man role when he could have been a first or second option on a contender. Both graced us with their presence in the game and we should just be grateful for them both. Having said that, skip is just playing a role here and knows his takes are controversial.

problem is that people see dirk now and seem to have forgotten the prime dirk he was for years. he was such a dominant scorer and shooting over 40% from 3 in many years of his career (in 21 seasons still 38%, FG % over 47). he scored over 30,000 points. he invented the idea of new PF. he lead the way for the shooting 7ft players. he had 12 seasons in a row scoring over 20 points a game. he carried a franchise to one of the most incredible NBA championship runs ever. he was finals mvp. he was league mvp. he was 14 time all star. his one leg fade away is one of the most iconic shots ever. the league had to adjust. Manu was a fantastic player but come on this isn't even a consideration. i'm sure if you ask Manu he would die laughing that people have him over dirk.

Those Mavs vs Spurs games were brilliant. Spurs had Tony, Duncan and Manu whereas Dirk usually had a mixed team. Dirk did have some years with Nash, then some with Kidd but he never really had that team around him the same way Duncan did. Dirk still made those games a tightly contested one and it was purely because of him in my opinion.

Just like dirk would be a better rebounder. But an sg should be better at shooting. He’s not better than dirk at that. Also not a better scorer overall. Dirk Nowitzki’s turnaround one-legged fadeaway has willed the Mavericks to countless victories and his career statistics speak for themselves. He eventually became an unstoppable force - a perpetual class act - and #41 is forever a champion. Most impressively though, Dirk rode with Dallas for 21 years. That is more than double the length of the average first marriage in America! Loyalty is invaluable and will separate his legacy from the greats to come.
