I grew up in the 50s and 60s. We were rich. My high school dropout mom was a stay at home mom of 3. Dad was an uneducated, not even a H.S. grad, shoe salesman (non-union). From that job he was able to buy a beautiful 3/2 house in Downey, CA that today goes for a half million dollars, a brand new car and great Christmases! We were rich on a shoe salesman's paycheck! The best thing about the 50s though in California was that everything was new - all the roads, freeways, houses. There was no crowding, no bumper-to-bumper, no 1 hour waits in line and no unemployment. No school shootings, no fear, no pedophiles, no serial killers, no obesity, no need to lock your front door. Even at Disneyland, the longest wait in a line was 2 minutes. Knotts Berry Farm was free and the Beach Boys were cruising Beach Blvd. Everything was clean and wide open, although LA smog and DDT eventually made my childhood miserable and toxic. As kids we thought everything would only get better but then Kennedy was shot and Nixon was elected and by '76, every year things got incrementally worse and they've just gotten worse ever since (except for computers, and even that is now beginning to tarnish.) So so Sad and why I never had kids.

so which part of the series would this be I thought it ended with Thomas frank? lol anywho good stuff Peter Kuznick is a brilliant historian and I highly recommend the untold story of the united states that and the cold war documentary series is fantastic!
