Unearthing Bunhill Fields: A Walk Through London's Buried History

In this video, we'll be exploring Bunhill Fields, the former burial ground in central London.
It was first in use as a burial ground from 1665 until 1854, in which period approximately 123,000 interments were estimated to have taken place. Over 2,000 monuments remain, and it was particularly favoured by nonconformists

Hi Sam (and daughter), Great video, really well researched and presented and even the squirrels behaved themselves. Interesting to see how the names change over time. Lots of really well known names there too. I seem to recall reading that several cementaries had to make way for the railways when they were built, perhaps some of those bones went to Bunhill. Amazing that they built windmills on top of it all too. All the best!! PS: Sorry cant think of any puns, theyve all been taken below, oh wait a moment, no ... I'll just go back to read The Sun😅😅🤣🤣🤣

Hi David, thanks so much for watching and glad you enjoyed it. 😁 The history was so very interesting, I stumbled upon it by accident and so glad I did. So much history! Not sure about the railway, 1000 bodies were moved in 1549, as st Paul's charnel House was taken down with the reformation, chantries dissolved, and the house leased put to booksellers. Insane, isn't it.

Hey Sam! You do go to the strangest of places. It's fascinating that new buildings surround the burial ground in the most striking contrast. I'm glad you didn't go there at night time!😂😂😂

That was an awesome place to visit, and quite spooky too. Just out of curiosity did you feel anything while you were there? I'm asking, because 2 mins before the video ended, I felt like something took my breath away, and I had a hard time catching it back...I know that sounds strange, but just wondering if you experienced anything like that?

Oh gosh! It's a very strange and eerie place, it gave me a slight sense of uneasy, but my daughter and I were saying that old parts of London do that to us. So much dark history there. And the gimbal went a little crazy too.
