the hammerhead sharks evolved this way because they prey mostly on crustaceans and stingrays. Which are on the bottom hiding in sand. All sharks have electro-receptors in their noses to "feel" living creatures under their noses (since their eyes on the sides and not on front as land predators have). But hammerhead sharks have bigger nose = better receptors. Which helps them find crustaceans in sand and dig them up to nom-nom-nom. They quite chill and NEVER EVER in recorded history killed a human. They did bite few of them, but nothing lethal or fatal.
@DavidStruveDesigns9 ай бұрын
Not only do they have a larger Electro-receptive area, their eyes being on the sides actually give them binocular vision in an arc all the way from their top rear, over their head to the front and all the way underneath back to their rear. AND the head shape helps them maneuver even better at slower speeds due to its wing-like shape. It looks bizarre to us, but it's a _fantastic_ biological modification that gives _amazing_ benefits to the shark.

@@nemesisnidhoggr1468 Couldn't agree more! They're also my favourite type of shark too! Don't get me wrong, I love Great Whites too but there's just something so much cooler about the Hammerhead. You know, "Hammerhead" _would_ be an excellent name for a spaceship, as well as excellent design too. It could have more powerful shielding along the front and use it's unique shape to slice through enemy ships.

I believe it’s called electroreception. The shark has sensory organs called electroreceptors in its “hammer head” that can detect the electrical impulses of prey hiding out of sight in the sand. Most sharks and rays have it and I think it’s the coolest :)

@@lilskipper4683 i mean in case it wasnt clear, i WASNT comparing honeybadgers to chihuahuas (or bees for that matter) i was making generalized statements that would fall under general knowledge and sum up an animal, in other words the only people that dont know that bees (at least the 'standard' bee) are black and yellow are people that dont know what bee's are in the first place, similiarly the only people who wouldnt know how a honeybadger behaves are the people who dont know what a honeybadger even is, most animals (or things for that matter) have one main characteristic chairs come in all sizes and shapes but we can all agree that all chairs (should) have one characteristic: namely the ability to sit on them, if you know that characteristic you in essence know what a chair is, and the same applies to most if not all animal (groups) sloths, everyone knows they are slow, capybaras, everyone knows they are just chill (or rather stupid but thats semantics)

Sharks have electrosensors in their face that they use to detect the electrical currents given of by the hearts of animals. Hammerheads have a massively increased surface area for these sensors so they can hunt prey that's out of sight very effectively. But their vision isn't any better than that of a normal shark. The guy who's skin came off has probably been doing hard labour for many years - developing a thick layer of dead skin named callus over his entire palm. If someone with callus on their hands then works with non-permeable gloves, which causes the moisture from sweat to accumulate, the skin will expand and the callus can be easily removed. This guy is going to have really sensitive hands until his callus regrows.

The guy that first isolated it (Humphry Davy) named it aluminum, but the royal society felt that the second i not only made it more classical sounding but was also in keeping with the names of other elements he had isolated and named, like sodium, potassium, barium and a few others. It does make sense. No idea why he was partial to the single i.

No, they don't use their heads to whack things, they are bottom dwellers and feed on prey that often bury themselves in the sand, and they locate those fish by scanning the bottom of the ocean floor with their head which is capable of both sensing electrical current in the water, as well as discharging small amounts of electricity that shocks the prey and causes them to flinch, which allows the hammerhead to locate the prey... Their head evolved that way for very specific and impressive reasons, it's not their fault humans feel the need to name everything after what it looks like...
