I went out and cloned a few of mine using honey as soon as you posted this. They all rooted and I now have more yellow pear tomatoes than I'll ever know what to do with. Thank you!

Very interesting, and thank you! However, cloning gives you a copy of the original plant. If you rather mark the first tomatoes that ripen, wait until last before picking them, and then take the seeds from them, you get a new generation that has proved that it has the best genes to grow in your specific environment. After a few years/generations you'll get plants that are more and more adjusted to your specific environment. I'm into the 30th generation of homegrown tomatoes that way and now have seeds that produce plants that not only can withstand the cold (I'm at latitude 58) better than any other that I've tried, but also ripen more than a month faster. Just a tip to y'all if you care to wait 30 years... :)

Cool! I did a similar experiment involving garlic powder and onion powder. I forget which had the better results but they both worked better than the control and traditional rooting powder.

Nice experiment. This year i didnt bother rooting them before i put them in soil. Tomato suckers in a 7 cm pot with potting mix, roots out bottom in less than 12 days

I would suspect the honey and cinnamon did better due to lacto bacilli from the air but what's really interesting is the difference in the root structures between them. I would suspect that's due to the additional strains of lactobacilli in the honey...very interesting...I know the curd from cultured milk that is made per the KNF LABS instructions comes out extremely smooth if you add honey. And it's actually an excellent alternative to mayonnaise - not to mention, chock full of probiotics! So win and win!

Great experiment. I have cloned tomato directly in compost mix for seedlings soil or light mix using Clonex and even using nothing at all and have nearly 100 percent success rate.

Had my tomato plant break today and smeared honey on the end stem so hopefully I see footings soon 🙏🏼

The leaves on the clonex ones seem to stay green and look healthy.

Last year I started hydroponic kratky boxes out side as an experiment. Tomatoes and peppers loved it. Zucchini and honey dew worked well also. Corn, not so much, and had a few other failures. Tomato plants I had in the ground, of course I always pinch off the suckers. A couple of plants I missed some suckers on them, and by the time I noticed them, they were large branches. Cut them off with scissors, and replaced the failed plants in the kratky boxes. Figured the worst that could happen was they didn't grow. At the end of the growing season, those "suckers" grew tall and proud, and had better yields than the same plants in dirt. Nothing special, no clonex or any other rooting agent, just the 2 part Masterblend hydroponic solution that had already been added to the boxes. I have since expanded on my outdoor kratky boxes for this year. Last year I had 4, 11gal boxes, with 2 or 4 holes cut in the lids (2 for tomatoes, 4 for everything else). This year I have those, again, and added 10, 27gal boxes to them, each of the 27 gal boxes have 8 holes cut in the lids. Mostly tomatoes and peppers

That's not how you use clonex that's why it didn't work

I just put tome tomato cutting in with some willow cuttings that were rooting. The tomatoes sprouted roots very rapidly in the water with the willows.

Try using general hydroponics green fertilizer. Works all the time for me.

i think making slits with a razor blade helps making more roots. i saw somebody doing this with canabis.

I had an unfortunate wind last week break about 3 ft off my yellow pear tomato. I was able to get it to root in a few days off of 2 cuttings in just regular water. A tip I got was to prune the leaves to the bare minimum, like all but 3 or 4 leaves per cutting, because if you don't it delays the root growth since it's still trying to focus on foliage

Hello, Do you think leaving the cuttings near a grow light will root it faster? I am thinking light stimulates root growth.

if you dipped the entire stem to just below the leaves in Honey they would be even better, if you make a stronger solution of the cinnamon they might have come in even stronger, the roots looked nice in the honey and cinnamon.

Goats got my garden and even came up under the porch and ate my cherry tomato clones in water bottles, plus they stole my cigarettes!

Have you tried using miracle grow in the water? I am trying that now. Have you ever tried to root tomato limbs...not the suckers? I have had a problem with blight. I was told it starts with dirt splashing on the leaves so I cut off limbs close to the ground. I wonder if I can root them. Most people cut off suckers. The limb beside a sucker typically grows down. What would happen if I cut the limb and leave the sucker? Thanks.

Disappointing to see the (non-trivially costing) Clonex put out such poor results in this sample. But very nice to see the (more trivial costing) honey do so well. I have to try this for myself when I do my next cuttings. I wonder if the Clonex works best with cuttings from certain types of plants, but not all?

I used a product named TakeRoot on 6 Yellow Gogi Berry cuttings and all slowly produced roots, and leaves.

Clonex is for soil roots every time. You washed it away by putting it in water

I think the honey make the water more acidic. I would make a test with different pH water.

Perhaps the honey provided food for the cutting and that is why the honey roots did best.

More research is necessary to conclude :)

Only one Cinnamon has the antifungal properties, and, of course, that Cinnamon is expensive. Ceylon Cinnamon is what you are after which is tan brown. Of course some places are unscrupulous and they mix the Ceylon with the MUCH cheaper Cassia version which is dark brown-red in colour which is what you used.

I did a similar thing to clone my micro dwarf tomatoes and I tried all the same methods..I even tried spit..rooting powder...and had same results as you..and yup..spit did the best..lol..its gross but can't argue with results

I think maybe the ones that grew roots were cuttings with suckers. I don't think leaf stems can root.

There is something going on with this experiment that is beyond what we are seeing. There are many many many people that have used just water with great results. Same with cloning solutions. ... yet those were your two worst performing tests. I think it would be great if you invested in some quality pH and PPM meters. Your water may be way different than alot of other peoples.

I get tomato suckers to make roots within days using just water every time but I change the water daily. I think your experiment proves clonex doesn't work. I think the reason honey and cinnamon worked for one cutting was because they are both anti bacterial. This means they made water charges less necessary. I would try changing water and rinsing cuttings and see that result, you'd like the results. All 4 cuttings in each pot would have rooted most likely. Thanks for the experiment, now I won't be purchasing any clonex.

Too much clonex.. it doesn’t take much and is easy to over due causing the opposite effect to occur. Meaning no roots ever lol.

why didn't youtube offer this video when I was searching for clonex cloning results. I would have saved my money. that's frustrating since I am subscribed to you but I never saw this video. Well, I have some honey, I guess I'll try both that and the expensive cloning gell.

Make sure the honey is not chinese fake honey
