Unfinished Business in Antigua, Guatemala, then back home to Paraguay!

Just over 18 months ago we left New Zealand and set up camp in Guatemala. In the time we were there we gathered some things that we couldn't bear to part with, so we left our belongings with friends and promised to return.

Just love listening to your adventures. I think if I went to live in another country I'd go with nothing and be minimalist as the cost sometimes outweighs the stress of organising shipping, hopefully getting all in one piece. We generally can live without what we need not what we want 😊

Hi Jacqueline, we're with you there. You can get just about anything here so it makes sense to be lean. The costs of freighting and the hassles you can have are definately things people need to carefully consider. Thanks for watching😁

Hello fellow Ozzie - oops just remembered you're a Kiwi! I have just started watching your videos this week. My hubby and I are considering moving to Paraguay (or Buenos Aires) with our little dogs from Mexico. Do you think Asuncion is cheaper than Buenos Aires or very similar? Am wondering what airline you took and what your luggage allowance was? From what I can see we would only be allowed to check in a 22 kilo bag plus bring a small 8 kilo one on the plane. You mentioned you got a 'cheap' flight? How cheap was it? Thanks alot!

Hola. First, Argentina, we haven't been there but have heard from several others that prices across the board have shot up so I'd say Paraguay is way cheaper. Airline, I flew Avianca, allowed 10kg carry on (plus a private bag) and 23kg check in. The flight was about $800 return. And I am Ozzie, Brenda is a kiwi. Thanks for watching!

So, why did Paraguay win out over Guatemala?

Many reasons. Among them were land property prices, costs of living, social issues, social stability, where the country seems to be heading...just to name a few.

Right, I was living in Xela until recently, had to return to US for eye surgery. Had residency there, thinking Paraguay much better for retirement. Follow your vids, interesting.

Yes, we think Paraguay is a much better option too. Xela is cool though. There's a lot to like about Guatemala.

@@ADirtCheapLifeParaguay Hey, I wanted to ask you about something. I notice on looking thru apt's in Paraguay hardly anyone has hot water! It was the same same in Guatemala and it's get way cold in the mountains but no one seems to even think it's important, like it's some kinda super luxury thing? With the price of electricity in Paraguay being so inexpensive compared to Guatemala, is it normal among the expats to not have hot showers in Paraguay? LOL

@@Brad_Fallon No, it's not normal in our experience. Everyone we know has hot water systems. No doubt many of the rural folk might not, but the electric hot water systems are very common; and as you say electricity is cheap. With the amount of sun here solar hotwater would also be a great option. Oh man, Guatemala is a different story! Where we spent time you'd be lucky to get water full stop. And those widow makers were scary.
