Best western ever made imo. Amazing cast and performances, great music, and a fantastic story. Masterpiece by Clint.

“The Outlaw Josey Wales” is Eastwood’s finest Western-themed film, in my opinion. Great story, magnificent dialogue and the supporting cast is second to none.

One of Clint Eastwood's masterpieces. This one is a slow burn that builds. You instantly know hell is coming when he learns of Ned's death and begins to drink the whiskey. Although he has many great movies, I hope you react to Clint Eastwood's "The Outlaw Josey Wales" next.

People don't realize the reason Clint's character was sick was he contracted Yellow Fever, which was rampant at the time. That's what the hogs had as well. It wasn't just from the rain and getting beat up by Little Bill. He was also having fever dreams.

Then you got the comedy side of Clint Eastwood. "Every Which Way but Loose". You won't regret that one. Followed by, "Any Which Way You Can". You won't regret this one either. Best comedies

If you’ll notice, Clint is riding a light colored horse or a „Pale“ horse. Same in the movie „Pale Rider“ and „High Plains Drifter“. The Pale horse …..last of the 4 horses of the Apocalypse upon which rode Death. Clint sure does dish death out in those movies……Cheers

What I love the most about the film is theres no music the whole film, until he gives the speech at the end. It's so powerful.

"What I've felt, What I've known Never shined through in what I've shown. Never free. Never me. So I dub thee unforgiven." Fun Fact: Clint Eastwood's mother Ruth Wood toiled through an uncomfortable day (wearing a heavy dress) as an extra, filming a scene where she boards a train. However, the scene was eventually cut, with her son apologizing. All was forgiven when he brought her to the Academy Awards and thanked her prominently in his acceptance speech. Legendary Boots Fact: The boots Clint Eastwood wore are the same ones he wore in Rawhide (1959). These boots are now part of Eastwood's private collection. In 2005 they were loaned to the Sergio Leone exhibit at the Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage in Los Angeles, CA. The boots basically book-ended Eastwood's career in Westerns. Historical Fact: Deputy Clyde's line about why a one-armed man needed to carry three pistols, "I don't want to get killed from lack of being able to shoot back" is sometimes attributed to James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok. He usually carried two pistols around his waist, another in a shoulder holster, sometimes another stuck in the back of his belt, and usually had at least one Derringer hidden somewhere. While working as a lawman, he usually carried a sawed-off shotgun as well. Hickok also laughed at Ned Buntline's report about his killing 20 men with 20 shots, saying that his theory was start shooting, and keep shooting, until the man you were shooting at was dead.

No-one is gonna forget Will Munny in that town in a hurry. He sure left his mark.

I've been a Clint Eastwood fan since his Rawhide days. A long time indeed.

As a few others stated, Pale Rider, Outlaw Jose Wales and High Plains Drifter are a few other Clint Eastwood movies you might want to react to. As someone who has lived at higher elevations in the western part of the U.S. I can assure you, seeing bare ground one day and a few inches of snow the next day is not uncommon. Especially in the cooler days of autumn.

I love how the first 90% of the movie breaks down the iconic image of the gunslinger and shows just how difficult and damaging it is for a human to take another person's life. The stories were just that, nothing but stories. Then in the final 10% we see William Munny actually turn into that fantasy image of the gunslinger - an unstopable killer. This makes that portrayal 10x more powerful than if he was the bad-ass gunslinger the entire move.

Remember the guy who held the girl tried to stop his friend once he saw what she was doing & he even tried to give a peace offering with the horse. Also she didn't want to take revenge but her fellow workers didn't listen to her feelings. Also she wanted to take the horse but once again they wouldn't let her. Finally I don't want to justify Little bill but he was about to give a whipping before the owner intervene. Finally Bill kinda had okay motives keeping guns out of his town & trying to stop violence. You kind of had to be tough for the bad men that were out there but he did take things too far. He didn't have to beat up Bob or Will. He could have just arrested them & prosecute & escort them out of town. The whole point of the movie is whenever someone could have stopped the violence from escalating not one cooler head was able to keep the situation from getting worse. The movie makes the point that violence isn't to be glorified.

I love a wonderful articulate reaction which is what you two provide. I think Unforgiven is a masterpiece. It's "slowness" is because it sharply creates characters and has a quiet consciousness about its theme which is about anti-violence while telling a really good tale. Clint wanted to tell a story that illustrated how glorifying violence is the wrong thing to do in films and a lot of his earlier films,, glorifying violence, were like that to a certain degree and he wanted to say, "I ain't like that anymore, kid." You two must check out his early masterwork THE OUTLAW JOSIE WALES (1976).

Winner of Best Picture that year. I love it when a film represents reality: the heroes and villains are not perfectly good nor perfectly bad.

Joy and Marian, you are so right about attention spans and the way movies are watched today. If there isn't a cut, a quick jump, a bad CGI effect, every minute or so , the viewers shut down. Back in the late 60s and early 70s, in the US, before cable and satellite TV, you had to wait months for a recent movie to be broadcast on the 3 antenna channels. So, if you missed it at the theater, you really appreciated the movie when it came on TV eventually. It was a big event to watch major movies which would premier weekly on antenna TV. Then when VHS videos came along, in the 80s, you could rent them at a video store. This gave an opportunity to not only watch new releases, but go back and experience the great classic films.

This film is basically an epilogue to all of *Eastwood's* past westerns. The beauty is how it shines a different light on the genre. A far less glamorous one.🤠

Y'all really need to dive into Clint's other movies; Pale Rider, Dirty Harry, Outlaw Josey Wales (my favorite, he also directed), The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, High Plaines Drifter, Million Dollar Baby (he directed also), and more!

You don't notice it at first, but Will is riding a pale horse. The horse doesn't like being ridden at first, but the closer Will comes to being death, the better behaved the horse is. I saw this in the theater when it was still new. From the time will rode into town that last time, maybe a little before, it was dead quiet and still in the theater until the shooting was over. The nervous laughter at "pick up that Spencer rifle" broke the tension, just a little.

Time to watch the Clint Eastwood classic westerns. Outlaw Josey Wales, High Plains Drifter, Pale Rider. Great job you two.

He bought the script decades earlier and waited till he was old enough to play the lead. Its his greatest work both as an actor and director.

Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman repeat almost everything in Academy Awards with this movie and Million Dollar Baby (2004), which they also starred together, Eastwood directed, etc. Throw in Hillary Swank in Million Dollar Baby also who won the Academy Award for best actress also. A must watch, however bring some tissues.

Man with no name trilogy by Clint Eastwood is a must.. So entertaining, "Once a Time in the West" is also fantastic.. Spaghetti Western icons.

Y'all really ought to review the "outlaw Josie Wales" with Clint Eastwood. Great movie centered around the end of the USA civil war which brings in pioneers, native Americans, Mexicans, soldiers, a melting pot of the settlement of our country.

When actors like Clint Eastwood, Tom Hanks and John Wayne find other actors they like to work with, you'll see them together in a lot of movies.

Clint can direct some strong, emotionally powerful movies...He 's bagged three Oscars for best Director, "Unforgven", "Mystic River" (2005) and "Million Dollar Baby" 2004.

Excellent film. One of my favorites. If you want to try a similar sort of anti-western, I highly recommend The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. It's also very deliberately paced, with little in the way of gunfights or action, but it's a fascinating character study and an intriguing look at the effects of celebrity and hero worship. The cinematography is absolutely incredible, too. Possibly the most beautiful film I've ever seen.

Unforgiven is arguably the greatest Western. Another couple to check out is, Pale rider, also directed and starring Clint Eastwood. And Butch Cassidy the Sundance kid, which is really good and based on a true story. 👍

Unforgiven is basically the anti-western. Clint decided to make a "realistic" western where the killing isn't heroic, and while perhaps just, it's still ugly.

This movie won the Best Movie of the Year Oscar and Eastwood won best director. Oh, and the sheriff won best supporting actor.

This is still my favorite Clint Eastwood movie.

What’s great about this movie is that it show the way that the lines are often blurred between what we believe is good as opposed to what we believe is bad. In some ways, the sheriff is actually a good guy. He cares about the welfare of the town. The people in the town seem to love him. The Cowboys who cut up the prostitute seem like nice guys at times. They bring the ponies as required and even bring an extra one. And when the one is dying, he’s a sympathetic character, begging for water.

Don't forget our judgements of women's rights are based on today. Back then, women were not really with many rights at all. I believe this is one of the most accurate western movies I've ever seen. The funny part is, Clint Eastwood acted in those 3 as well

Great reaction you two, you really get into it and have great commentary. You didn't show one of the great quotes from the movie though, when Little Bill is lying on the floor shot he says "I don't deserve to die like this" and Will says "Deserves got nothin to do with it" just before he shoots him in the face. The way Clint delivers that line is chilling

One of my favorite modern Clint Eastwood movies where he directed is CHANGELING. It is a true story of something that happened in Los Angeles 100 years ago that is so bizarre that if you didn't know it was a true story you wouldn't believe it. Well worth a look.

A few days later winter is back. On the Great Plains the weather can go from 70 degrees to 20 degrees overnight. There is nothing to stop the weather systems. They fly through quickly.

Will could not shoot properl because he was trying to be a good man instead of being himself. When Ned was killed, his rage took over and he became again the heartless, unfearing killer he had tried so hard to leave behind. The whole movie is about peole trying to deny their reral selves. Litle Bill trying to be a lawman when he was a heartless bully. English Bob trying to be a fearless man when he was a coward. The Kid trying to be a killer gunfighter when he was just an ignorant fool with dime-novel dreams. Will trying to be a changed man when he would always be the hand of death.

Since you are a fan of Clint Eastwood, I have to suggest a great movie of his that is not as widely known to many people - Heartbreak Ridge - 1986. Wonderful characters and cast about a Marine lifer who is approaching retirement and is thrown in with a modern day bunch of misfits in the "new marine corp".

If you get a chance, check out the Coen Brothers, True Grit/2011, nominated for 10 Academy Awards. Also, another great Clint Eastwood Western movie "Hang em High"
