This video came up during some research on identifying unheated vs heated gemstones. One author described observing what he termed "melted" schiller lines in heated gems. To this end, I did see lines that were straight and parallel in the unheated gems, while similar lines seemed to form random curves and branches in the heated gems. The second sample showed a number of instances of "halos" appearing around inclusions. I have no idea if these are the differences we should be identifying. But I could definitely see a difference between the heated and unheated gems. Thanks for the video!

I wish there was sound and an explanation comparing the unheated v. the heated. I still don't know what to look for since both looked the same.

unheated has a finer lines unconnected where heated would enlarge those and connects them together unheated has angular gas bubble, nearly to none where heated has a lot more gas bubbles and are mostly round

The critics here are interesting. I don't know why anyone would watch this if their intention was other than to learn to identify unheated from heated. Yeah, people complaining about what's NOT included (oh, a pun!) are ... well ... I'll stick with 'interesting' ... I'm still watching and pausing and backing up and pausing ... it is SO very instructive ... full screen on my Macbook Pro and my own microscope and sapphires to compare is nice too ... but, yeah, thanks again!!!!!!!!

Hello, I used some very included gemstones to show many different interesting inclusions that you can find inside sapphires. Usually sapphires have some inclusions, but sometimes you can find no inclusions or tiny ones. I hope that my video can help you in some identifications.

@@francescoprotopapas5482 A refractometer is probably the best - and a useful one is not expensive. Another method is by using one or more calibrated refraction fluids. The crystal shape might be instructive. A bit more risky would be a scratch test. A steel knife will scratch amethyst, but not sapphire.

This is the perfect example of how NOT to do an instructional or educational video. Try explaining to those you are trying to teach what they are looking at and for. A bunch of inclusions that ma or may not be heated look very similar to the uninitiated and inexperienced.

You do know you can set your video so only people you give a link to can view it. so if what you say is true about this being for your class...set the fucking thing to private. no need for such a poor video out for the world to look at it.
