Trim pots in CHEAP-O's are absolutely essential. I'm glad they're doing this.

@13:20 Those two springy things "BZ-" make contact with the piezo speaker (buzzer) plate underneath. BZ+ between them is a coil spring that makes contact with the center conductor.

thanks for your detailed reviews, they helped me a lot when choosing a multimeter. If possible, pay more attention to the resolution of the multimeter when measuring small mv values.

I think it's aging method to check pure led. Where you need to check led? TV or monitor backlight LED, LED lamp. Now they use COB leds (which consist 2, 3 and more series leds). That means you need current source to test it, at least 12v. And 120C... Slowest resistor measurement ever i saw. You need strong nervous system to use it :)

True enough Dmitriy! Though I ran into this very problem awhile back while working onsite on a piece of medical equipment...I ended up accidentally using a dead led in my repair..Ugh...🤣 No worry, I discovered the error and swapped out a different DIODE ...it's still nice to have that voltage output on standby just in case. 👍

I have this meter in my car but it has a different name brand on it. It has the ability to leave it in the case and use the meter in case it’s raining. Nice 👍

Great review again Darren! I bought the UT120A version (no current) for my parents to test batteries fuses etc. I like it, doesn't feel like a £10 meter! As you pointed out, resistance is a bit slow, but that's fine for a pocket meter

I used to have a thin and basic meter like this as a kid. I have fond memories of it just because it was my first. It's surprising how much you can do with just volts and ohms, but a real shame the continuity is so quiet. Still tempted to buy one, just for old times sake, and maybe keep it in the car or somesuch for 'emergencies'.

I like it, you know those times, the wife is dragging you around the grocery store, you are bored to death by the domestication of it all and busting to do a spot of random testing..how much resistance in the metal of the shopping cart? Old lady on the frozen aisle having problems with her hearing aid (step in that new kind of super hero.. TESTING MAN!!) you feel the urge to test those brand new spanky swanky double A batteries before you leave the premises... This is the instrument to have on you at all times!!! light, compact, nay! miniscule!! Yes, I like it, I feel the need to acquire one just so I'm never without that testing ability!! 😁

I did some frequency testing on 2.5v P-P AC sine wave and it did great from 1 Hz all the way to 498 kHz! That's right, it outperforms it's specifications by a wide margin, and with sensitivity that many other meters don't recognize. Did you know @4:37 that any meter will read a sine wave the same whether it is true RMS or not? It's the other waveforms types that come up different. I masked off the range selector around the arrow pointer and then penned some silver magic marker in the recess, which matches the text on the unit perfecto!

Pocket multimeter always cute... Once upon a time when I was crazy about to have one.. Uni-t ut120c is definitely a good pocket dm... Hey Darren sir, Many people say, 'as strict teacher in school life as mother-in-law in married life'... Is that true?

Apart from being slightly bigger, UT125C seems better in every way. It measures resistance and continuity faster, has a backlight and an NCV mode, has better cable retention, better input protection, is ETL certified and cost almost the same as UT120C, if not cheaper. As you said, UT120C is not all bad. It’s nicely build, has decent screen, is very compact. I was actually considering buying it for a basic pocket meter, until you made a review on Habotest HT108L. Glad I hesitated. HT108L has become my favorite basic cheap-o multimeter.

I like it as an ultra small (shirt pocket) DMM if you primarily measure low DC voltages. It seems like garbage for anything else and the diode output voltage is inexcusable.

Good review, Darren 👍 Honestly I don't like the idea of permanently attached probe cable, be it a UNI-T or a Sanwa multimeter you're using in the video. Even for portability reason, I'd rather pick Aneng 8009 or like. After all, thanks for the review.

Yes, it's definitely an acquired taste. I prefer non captive leads as well but sometimes it does work very well depending on the situation 👍

Love uni-t, this generation looks like my old style ut136b - no true rms, no backlight, low capacity. But for some mystical reason, 9 of 10 times I choose mine uni-t, instead of more powerful and compact aneng s1)

I confirmed by test that this device is not using RMS. Only important for non-sine wave AC sources. The newer version AN101 does have it and is similar pocket unit.

Ive come to call these little guys "keychain" meters, some are better than others and none are meant to replace or run with a normal size meter. Too bad this one didnt deliver a little better on functionality, I like UniT meters and have quite a few but you can get a more regular sized meter for the $20 this one cost that will work better and have detachable leads. This did have some nice internal features such as the resettable poly fuse, too bad it wasnt better overall. But I still like much of UniT's gear and they have other meters in this price range that offer far more in functionality.

If you were measuring household line voltage and accidentally switched it to amperage, would the poly fuse save you or would it blow up? I feel like they shouldn't even have amperage on these meters that don't require you to switch input jacks.

There is UT120A that doesn’t measure current and capacitance. It seems safer and more reasonable this way, but it costs pretty much the same as UT120C.

This compact pocket multimeter is my to go multimeter especially after i replaced the probe cables with flexible silicon ones. I have the cheaper aneng an8203 n Mostly i work on low voltage. You will love flexible silicon cables ;).

@@KeepOnTesting I saw it compared elsewhere against the AN101, and they gave it a lower rating due to the screen, same deal, protector on, so everyone bad! Oh and by the way the AN101 now ships with capacitance, NCV, and frequency measurements. Check it out :)

UT120C Model is more than 2 yrs old and its performance when it comes to continuity response time is forgivable.

@Darren Walker Hello, I also have a unit 120c measuring instrument, but as a result of an incorrect measurement, 1 resistor on the device's card exploded, so the color codes are not visible. If I ask you, can you open the back cover and give me the ohm value of the resistor that says R16, I searched on the internet, I couldn't find the control chart. I would be very happy if you could help.

@13:47 I found that VR4 didn't adjust mA. Then I tried μA mode and it did indeed allow adjustment. Truth be told, i was adjusting voltage calibration and turned the wrong pot in the process, so I wanted to put whatever VR4 adjusted back where it belonged ⛑

Those trim pots can be tricky. One time I was adjusting a similar VR on another dmm when a friend passed by and patted my back, caused me to wack the cal pot wayyy out and took me an hour to get things back to normal.
