In this Unicorn Overlord video, I wanted to talk about True Zenoiran difficulty and give you an idea of how hard it can be a few hours into the game. It is definitely for those seeking a challenge as the game punishes you much more brutally for tactical and team build errors. Having played on Tactical before this, True Zenoiran is quite the jump in challenge, but even those who have played through on Expert will find a challenge here.

My top 5 tips for true zenoiran: 1. use only optimal items. you only have limited uses so you want to get the most bang for your back. For example: need stamina? dont use stamina restoring items. As funny as that sounds. Go rest then use the hourglass items to recover full unit stamina. Need to resu someone in the squad? avoid using the revival orbs unless forced into battle. Use the camping sets so you also get a free heal for everyone close. And so on. 2. wind faerie charms are your friend. Assists are the biggest reason your squads will lose units in TZ. hoard them like waifus. 3. as for valor points, use efficient ones and not just stuff you want to use out of convenience. Like i liked using hastened mobility on expert just to travel the map faster and finish the stage faster. Or royal order for more xp. Plunder for more gold In TZ, your valor skills have to count and have a tangible influence in finishing battles. This means stuff like vital absorb (damage and drain enemy stamina), provoke (remove assisting enemies from watchtowers) and dual shield (shield all allies from enemy assists). Only use the convenience stuff when you're just a couple of battles away from finishing a map and have tons of valor. 3. have effiicient squads. As cool as it may seem to kill enemies one by one with 9 crits meteor slash swordmaster, thats just going to make you re-do battles. You want 1 battle kills. This means AOE is king. Your offense should be built around this heirarchy: board nuking>row nuking>column nuking>single target. Units with board nuke skills are a priority like yunifi, rosalinde and eltolinde. 4. Have at least 3 dedicated assist squads that can hold their own and take advantage of watch towers. Basically your 4 main teams/leads should be a: pusher (typically alain so you can replenish valor quickly) and 3 squads that are either led by an archer or mage. A pusher backed up by 3 assist units ensures you will get the kill 95% of the time. 5. speaking of alain, dont forget about gilbert! people think alain's lead is unique. Nope. gilbert also has the same leadership and is a better support unit than alain. He can lead his own push squad if you want.

Those are good tips. I also mostly agree except I disagree with some of the Valor skills. Hastened call is busted. Send our grphon/ and flyers to go deep in the map to quicky take out assist towers is huge. Then, they can take a garrison for free teleport for the rest of your army but I have been spamming witches and 2 Valor to teleport to where you need to be is kind of busted. Those + berengaria vital steal are the core for me marching through a map. Other tip I find the biggest and I've seen it elsewhere is to rotate units. My cav are a suicide squad that go block roads, beat up a few units then runs back to withdraw returning the Valor point and I can use another full strength unit to cakewalk the rest once they are all weakened. This kind of goes against use optimal teams, I beat expert with basically 4 units so I see what you're saying. But it's just another option A tip I haven't seen talked about too much is to really abuse stacking units ontop of eachother. Once you have the peripherals of the map taken care of consolidating your units into a death ball and rotating them for each battle, stacking Valor skills ontop of eachother, and 0 stamina dragging through the map is super effective.

@@Trevoroxx i do like hastened call as i said but i dont use it as much on TZ as i'm saving valor for other things i may need such as dragoon dive. Teleport i like to but again these are convenience picks i'd only use as when necessary or i have alot of spare valor on TZ. i start using for convenience once i have 4-5+ valor with all my squads out (i typically just run 3-5 squads in a map). But yeah if you find yourself valuing those mobility skills more in TZ, then sure. For sure, i've found them really useful on expert. The death ball approach is something i mentioned earlier. This is what i mean by having a push squad backed by 3 assisters. They all travel together so you can swap them for whoever kills the best and have 2-3 assists to supplement in case the closest kill cant get the kill in one shot.

I haven't tried it, but the cavalier tactic you spoke of still works pretty often on Expert mode too. You can put say Adel and Clive with Monica and shred through units with Wild Rush, Assault Lance and later Pile Bunker while cleaning up with Hache and I believe Sainted Strike? You'll be doing two column stuns, plus AP regain and PP decrease while attacking most enemies so winning comes down to making the other team act as little as possible while maximizing your battle actions.

Nice! Cavalry may become more viable again too, once I get them promoted. They are still very good, but more situationally than they use to be. Drakenhold is kicking my butt right now though lol

True zenoiran is what i think expert should have been. The game is still easy on True Zenoiran difficulty for a 2nd playthrough. They really need to give enemies large advantages or the player major economical disadvantages (which can always be overcome by infinite grinding) to add challenge to the game.

So do you enjoy the grind? I know there are players who like games that require a lot of grind, and I can understand that because having what seems like an insurmountable challenge and then soundly overcoming it after putting the work in does come with a great deal of satisfaction. Personally though, I like to be challenged without feeling the need to put in a ton of extra time grinding levels and I feel like this is pretty well done here. That's just my thoughts though, thanks for sharing yours!

@@89Gamesthere's no need to do any repeatable grind because there's so many missions. I'm not skipping the "Battle for" missions or side quests though. If i had to do the same mission over and over again for xp i'd say difficulty wasnt tuned well. That being said, you can't just dominate maps with 1 squad as your army will fall behind in xp so you do need to share squad kills to make sure you have at least 5 squads that are good enough to win missions

@@Spinffx That makes sense. The further I get into my true zenoiran playthrough, the more I'm seeing that the right build optimization can make the game much easier. I do like how TZ does really make you learn how to optimize your units. In lower difficulty I feel like you can get away with a lot of poor optimization. So I think the balance and challenge is good overall, but I see your point about adding some extra challenge too. Thanks!

I just beat the game in expert and went into true zeraorian, i just beat the coliseum map and its not that hard (im not using items in battle to make more challange)

When i completed Story Difficulty i had 23 Hallowed Corne Ashe left. Im assuming youd have much less on True Zenorian

You can still find the same amount I believe but they're used to revive dead characters instead of adding more time to the battle since if a squad gets wiped all its characters are unavailable until revived.

They need to disable the battle result prediction in True Zenoiran, Knowing beforehand if our unit win or lose the battle just made it way too easy. And the enemy mobs should be fully geared with AP/PP pendants so we don't have too much advantages over them too.

That's an interesting idea. I think it would be brutal, but it would really make you think about your builds and tactics a lot more.

Started true zenorian 2 days ago, Allrdy rushed trough drakenholm and elheim. Its honestly very very easy once you have experience from expert. Especially if you just run the usual stuff early like Hilda Dragoon-Cathat instant freeze comp. But even without the boardclear stuff, my other "normal" units perform rly good too and oneshot basically everything. Its sadly... a really really easy game. Im usually a coward. Usually i play anything on normal. However.... This game has the same issue as persona 5. Even on the hardest difficulty its a joke (i still LOVE both games tho, im just saying its rly rly rly easy... even on hardest difficulty)

Very true. Once you figure out some good teams it can be pretty easy, but you do have to figure out those teams.

no, its not a new game + which is a disappoint for a lot of people, I know. I think it would be cool if there was one thought where maybe there were a few unique items or characters to unlock.

I was expecting a difficulty that was unfair walking into it myself. What I experienced was a difficulty where I couldn't tell the difference between expert and true zenorian. I seriously had to check I actually selected the difficulty. It's not hard at all and kinda disappointing. I didn't level grind either. Just played it normally. Really just about knowing how to build a team more than anything else.

Agreed. Once you optimize your teams, most battles aren't too difficult.

It’s the same as expert. I never let any squad die in battle and barely use items in expert diff. It’s actually easier in True zenorian since you already know the route for clearing battles.

True zenoiran difficulty is only hard if you don't know what you're doing. I broke the game under a few hours and has lvl 30 units before saving Scarlett.

Did you level grind!? lol. Any difficulty is meaningless if you're level 30 fighting level 10!

​​@@89Games It might be possible if you limit the amount of units you actually use and pump all your resources into say three to four groups of fighters max. I've seen videos with level 18+ player units in the early part of Drakenhold at what might be either tactical or expert difficulty. My guess is you just go do as many of Selvie's rune circle quests as possible (but unlike what's suggested and keep going back into them) after doing them once only push all the treatises you gain onto whoever is in play.

@@richardklein1167 yeah, makes sense. I know I could grind levels at the sigils, but I want beat true zenoiran difficulty without cheesing it. Makes for a better stream and helps me build units that will work at appropriate levels since pretty much any unit can win if they're over-leveled.

No, it's not hard. It's normal difficulty and very easy to break, we need an actual True Zenoiran difficulty 🤦🏾‍♂️

Nah, super optimized comps just breaks everything in their path The problem is not the difficulty of the enemy, it's the playable content the game gives us that just invalidates the intended difficulty, even against the supposed tz difficulty you're begging for There's nothing to facepalm the current highest difficulty about
