It depends a bit on where you can get the cabling to as well. For me it is often easier to go from the ceiling, but I do enjoy the added ports.

The coverage is mainly for the room it is in, as well as possibly adjoining rooms. It isn't 360 degrees as such, considering it is meant to be installed on a wall. The coverage would be in front of the device, but radio signals are dirty and get thrown around everywhere. I wouldn't put it on an outside wall. It isn't outdoor rated and your outside walls are likely thicker than your internal walls.

Very good questions Thomas. 1. You can assign a profile to each port, which determines the network profile, which in turns defines a VLAN. So, yes, each port can have their own VLAN. 2. The SSIDs are determined by the Network Controller, which currently allows 4 WiFi networks with mesh enabled. All Unifi APs will broadcast the SSIDs defined in the Network Controller, if you allow it.

The CAT6 that provides the power and connection has to come in from the back. The design is for a wall mount like shown. The ports are only for output, with one providing PoE as well.

I am not sure what you mean by "separate" POE? But yes, attach CAT6 to the back of the device, then attach the other end to a POE switch port and you are good to go. Performance is excellent. It is 4x4 MIMO with 4-port Gigabit Ethernet, so you get excellent value.

There is 1 connection that must be POE into the unit, but you have the 2 bottom sockets that allow passthrough POE+Ethernet on one, and just Ethernet on the other.

No silly questions Paul :) You need a compatible Unifi switch or router to use the In-Wall HD. This would be a Dream Machine, Dream Machine Pro, switch for example. When you plug it in via a CAT6/RJ45 cable, the In-Wall HD then becomes an access point on your existing WiFi network, using the same WiFi password.

That was my first plan as well, until I discovered the In-Wall HD. And since there will be at least three wired connected to this point, it made sense 😊

@@LarsKlintTech no im talking a single gang box for mounting (electrical outlet box), would of been able to secure ur cat6 cable in it to prevent losing it like u were concernd about

If your router has an ethernet RJ45 port, you possibly could. The device is meant to connect to a Unifi switch though.

Hi Bryan. Thanks for watching the video and thank you for your thesis and scientific conclusion. I do mention it is the Unifi Controller, and even what version I am using. The adoption is a no brainer for most, but the physical installation is an issue for many. If you are considering a device like the In-Wall HD, it is likely you have a network controller already on a Unifi Dream Machine, Dream Machine Pro, or a stand alone controller. Perhaps ask for clarification instead of projecting your unhelpful opinion, which would allow others to learn as well. Have an awesome day, which hopefully is filled with a bit more happiness.
