Күн бұрын

Unigine just released Unigine 2.12 and this game engine just got a whole lot better. Massive improvements to the particle effect systems, terrain systems, cloud systems and more. New C# .Net Core 3.1 and C# 8 support, improved documentation, new samples and more are included making this perhaps the best 0.01 release ever.

We've been hammering on it for a couple of months, trying to break it and see where its weaknesses are. It's the real deal. It has been very stable- not a single crash or freeze so far. It's fast and has an excellent renderer. It's differentiating feature is its terrain system, which might be the best in the industry. Studios that choose the engine based on project requirements instead of zealotry or familiarity should evaluate this guy imo. I'm not sure yet, but I think this engine might just be the cat's pajamas.

It's all very impressive but very large world rendering and simulation, their biggest core strength, is seriously gimped by locking 64-bit precision to the paid versions. That's about a kilometer wide world if you want centimeter precision on your physics. Any game engine can do that. It has a good toolset and C# will make it attractive to lots of indie developers. Just don't go in expecting the World, because you are getting only 1/500000000 of it.

So many things we see in AAA games that were inaccessible for indie devs just a few years ago are becoming possible every month in different engines recently. You don't have to be a pro at your engine or language of choice to develop a game without a team. That's what google is for. If there's something you don't know how to do, google it. Just pick a language and engine(or framework-plenty of games have been made without engines as well), start your game, and stick with it. Don't switch engines if what you're using is working just because you see something new. You'll never get anything done if you keep trying to jump to the next best thing. Your problem seems to be more commitment to a project/engine than not having a team. That sort of thing doesn't automatically get fixed by having a team if the team can't commit to a set of tools without wanting to switch to something shiny and new that comes out.
