It's not a lost art at all. Shoes like this were always reserved for the wealthy and were always on a small, specialist scale. Most people wore absolute crap before the 1940s and if anything cheap manufacturing has opened the market to people with lower incomes. The fact that many people choose to buy absolute rubbish that falls apart in a few wears is neither here nor there. They are to essentially be ignored by the middle to upper price ranges in the market.

This British Salesman is all class and all skill. So nice to hear both an artisan (Cordwainer) and a salesman weave together his skills and knowledge. The most professional part was at 5:04 when the customer thought it was quite comfortable and instead of selling the product the salesman gives him further choices.

Yeah it can be a dangerous (expensive) obsession. I got really into shoes a while back, and once you get a pair of nicely made shoes, it's very hard to accept anything less.

Me neither. However, most things have a deeper level of knowledge and know how that separates the laymen from the experts. I'm from the Philippines, the home of Imelda Marcos'. 😂🇵🇭 Never really understood why she wanted to collect so many damn shoes, but seeing this can sort of see the appeal now. It's like therapy. 😂👠👞

I may not be able to afford these shoes but I did just buy a shoe horn. What a difference! Makes getting the shoes on so much easier.

Wow. This is a rare thing to witness these days. You would never experience this calibre of service at footlocker. I would generously tip this man for the experience alone.

An amazing salesman. The younger generations have no idea what the experience of a good salesman can do for confidence in the product you are wearing. A person-to-person experience is vastly superior to video in my experience. I was a suit salesman for 3 years and you get to know the customers on a personal level. They appreciate the time and effort you give them and it really makes your personality all that much better. Trust they put in you results in confidence in yourself, and that’s the key to a good salesman.

I suspect these shoes cost a lot less than ones made by Lobb. They look fine quality and the company is courteous, without being obsequious. I'll see if they sell to Australia. I might just treat myself to one of their products.
