Of course I am a 4014 fan. Who's not? However, 844 is simply a gorgeous locomotive. I love her larger drivers which give a clearer picture of speed. One of my favorite videos is of 844 starting from a standing stop, accelerating to full speed.

Sadly, for those of you who don’t know, the train stopped so suddenly because she struck and killed a pedestrian who was standing too close to the rails.

I’ve seen the video, it’s sad she was somehow oblivious to 844 barreling towards her. On top of that, it happened at right after a crossing so she had plenty of time to hear 844 coming

@@That_Thicc_Cat I think she was trying to take a photo of the engine head-on, and waited to long to take the shot and didnt notice how close it actually was

The Steam UP channel commented it ended due to unrelated reasons and not of the accident.

Reminder or for those who don’t know: the frontier excursions weren’t canceled for the incident that happened towards the end of the video but for some other reason. Regardless if the accident happened or not they were still going to end it.

It was probably a blessing for some that where he was recording at the time obstructed what would've otherwise been a clear view of the poor woman being struck by the massive locomotive. The 844 is a massive beast, and a massive beast like her can't stop on a dime.

Challenger 3985 has been donated along with centennial dda40x 6936 and 2 10 2 and four of up heritage cars it will be going to the Midwest heritage steam program the same one that operates the 261 they will restore Challenger 3985 and the 2 10 2 and use it along with dda40x 6936 on steam excursion's

Random Blue Pig, not correct that the CFD Train ceased operations due to the fatality. Changes at sponsor Denver Post were the reason.

Recent events with UP4014 on its trip to New Orleans show that the diesel, while unsightly for photographers is a practical idea for safety purposes. 4014 suffered an injector malfunction and needed its diesel assistant to both push the Big Boy and pull the consist to a place where the issue could be properly addressed as well as preventing the main line from being fouled for longer than necessary. Had this been the 40s and 50s when there was no diesel assistance, there might have been the possibility of firebox or boiler damage potentially leading to a boiler explosion.

@@j390fe 844 generally has freight diesels tied on behind it, so any electrical generation done by the diesels is for that diesels own needs, and not the consists. Uncle Pete has power cars for that.

in the end clip, 844 is put into Emergency after hitting and killing a pedestrian, its not visible in the shot because it was blocked by a building.
