This is footage I shot of Union Pacific's Santa Cruz Local passing the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, California on February 16, 2004.

My father, R.R. McCarthy was the engineer on the Santa Cruz local for 15 or more years. Buzz Sawyer was the conductor and Danny Rowan the brakeman. They were quite a team. All long retired and the branch is pretty much gone.

Awesome video! I have read a lot about this railroad. Too bad the customer in Davenport shut down.

Thanks! This train no longer exists any more, they shut down the cement plant in Davenport, California where this train would run to so now its gone.

This was a great line for the local graffiti artists too. Lots of famous pieces on this line.

That's nice.especially to stand that close to a train.everytime i stand beside one i want to get closer to it.how did the train stop running?,how duz it not exist anymore?.
