When you are looking for unique activities and things to do in Cyprus, take a look at some of the most unique experiences we had during our stay on the island. Strolling through Paphos or visiting the Edro III Shipwreck, we got you covered. Join us to find the best spot to watch the Cyprus Flamingos near Larnaka.
Cyprus, the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, offers some truely unique experiences. In this video, we take you along to a wide range of historic and simply unusual places. So stay tuned and get inspired for your own trip to the island.
What could be better than witnessing sunrises and sunsets by the sea? Cyprus offers perfect locations for such breathtaking experiences. We particularly recommend the white stones east of Limassol. Especially in the morning, the place is almost deserted, with only a few fishermen shaping the scenery.
For a mesmerizing sunset, nothing is more impressive than the wreck of the Erdo III. Beached in 2011, it provides an incredible backdrop for an unforgettable sunset. After a day in Paphos, you simply have to check out this place.
Paphos itself features a large archaeological site with beautiful Roman mosaics, four villas, and an ancient theatre.
A slightly inconspicuous but significant place of Christianity is within walking distance of the excavation site. On the grounds of the Church of Panagia Chrysopolitissa, you can find the Paulus column. The column is believed to be the site where the apostle Paulus was flogged in front of the Roman governor Sergius Paulus before he converted to Christianity.
In Larnaka, you will find a Greek Orthodox Church dedicated to Saint Lazarus. Among other things, the church houses a relic that is said to contain the head of Saint Lazarus. Lazarus is said to have been brought back from the dead by Jesus himself.
Archaeologically important sites are scattered all over Cyprus. The Colossi is just one of them. With a turbulent past involving property exchanges between the Knights of St. John and the Knights Templar, visiting this site becomes truly special. Cyprus, being one of the most fertile islands in the Mediterranean, used the Kolossi as a sugar warehouse in the past
.
Arguably the most extraordinary, albeit somewhat unspectacular, sacred site in Cyprus is the Monastery of Saint Nicholas of the Cats. Although the monastery itself may seem inconspicuous, it is a haven for those looking to cuddle some adorable cats.
Traces of the Romans and ancient Greeks can be found everywhere, but the Ottoman Empire also left its mark on Cyprus. For instance, north of the Larnaca Salt Lake, you can find an aqueduct from 1750 that remained in use until 1939.
At the Larnaca salt lake itself, one of the two largest lakes in Cyprus, you can observe flamingos. These birds inhabit Cyprus from November to April, and several vantage points provide excellent opportunities for observation. However, to enjoy the best view, a short hike south of the aqueduct will take you to a couple of peninsulas that offer an unparalleled perspective of these magnificent creatures.
The coasts of Cyprus offer various spectacles. The Natural Bridge and the Lovers' Bridge are just two of the spots worth visiting in the southeast of Cyprus.
The beaches at Cyclops Cave provide excellent opportunities to cool off without getting caught in large crowds. The most beautiful beaches and fertile corners of the island are best explored in the northwest. The Path of Aphrodite stands out as one of our absolute highlights. We have a dedicated video about this hike, so if you want to learn more, feel free to check it out.

Thank you Aishu. Did you end up downloading DaVinci Resolve? Happy to help, if you need support getting started. I find it so much easier to create proper editing in the program, compared to editing on the phone.

Just beautiful. I've been to Cyprus before, a good 5 years ago though so it was fantastic to re-live it through your lens. Love your narration, music choices and your edits. So really stunning sights, love the wreck, so iconic. Thank you Hike for Happiness!

Thank you for the kind words. We appreciate the feedback a lot. When you visited Cyprus, what was your personal highlight? For us, it always ends up being the long hikes somewhere, but also the Flamingos were quite an unusual experience. Especially finding this place we had all to ourself.

Thank you Yasmin :). It was only a short time on the Island, but the experiences were really unusual. With the spot we found for the flamingos, we were also able to watch them on our own for quite a while. Too many mosquitos around the lake, though :D

Hi Mr. and Mrs. Hike for Happiness, My jaw dropped. I have been wanting to see flamingos in wild and here you have it. Wow I had no idea how elegant they are especially their wings. I wander it they are really good dancers. Those white rocks tell me mysterious stories. Can you explain the reason the entire area of rocks are so white? calcium? 0:40 How cool to see a shipwreck haha...You are not only one curious about it. 1:05 I wonder if it will be collected or just let it rot, erode. You gave me goosebumps...1:25 is that original? wow so sensitive and elaborated work of art. Is this done excavation and is open to the public? 1:54, 2:04, 2:16 and more, stunning to see the stone structure. Is this a painting on the wall? 3:41 I don't know about the which era of art, but impressive. Wow, I wish I could walk on the aqueduct 4:22 unbelievable engineering. Spectacular bird-eye view over the natural bridges, Bravo! 5:19 You can actually walk on. I would love to kayak here 5:50 What are those white boxes? 6:14 This island is paradise to me. Wow, wildlife in nature. history and art, Landscape, and much more. I am afraid that I will be addicted to the island and not to want to leave. Well done, representing this island to the world. Thank YOU very much. Superb!

Hi @ms.kayak7seas. So we both have something to be jealous of. For me it is the sharks and the manatees. But I might be able to finally see some sharks when visiting south-africa soon. The white rocks are indeen limestone, so they contain a lot of calcium. The shipwreck has been lying there now for a few years, so I guess it will remain. A bit weird that not even the radar has been collected. The mosaics in the villas are original and you can visit the area. It is an open air museum and shows off quite some amazing history. The mosaics in paphos and the wallpainting at the Kolossi are just some of the wonderful relics you can fin in Cyprus. Many things to discover around the island. The natural bridge is now locked off, as it is at risk of collapsing. But the bridge of lovers is accessible. The white boxes at 6:14 are local villas at the waterfront. They seemed to be quite new, so we didn't see anyone around, but it must be an amazing place to live, so close to the blue ocean. Thank you so much for watching. We are sure happy that you liked this highlight video.
