The home of winegrower Jochen and his wife Beate looks very uncluttered. And it should be. The couple love the clean Bauhaus style and live in an original from 1929 that Jochen's grandfather had built.
Jochen and his wife live on the second floor of the Bauhaus villa in a 90 m² apartment. The couple prefer to surround themselves with clear structures. There is therefore hardly any decoration in their apartment. The furniture and rooms have no frills. "Form follows function", this basic idea of Bauhaus can be felt everywhere in the living spaces and it also applies to the work area in their winery.
The winery was built in 1929 by architect Otto Prott, who was a friend of Jochen's grandfather. The unusual Bauhaus building was a sensation in the small village of Kindenheim at the time. Jochen has made it his mission to continue his grandfather's legacy.
Jochen added an extension to the Bauhaus villa for the work area, which echoes the Bauhaus style. This building was planned in 2002 by Prof. Heribert Hamann: all clear lines, everything tailored to work processes and function. The construction phase lasted four years. A huge project for the Kreutzenberger family, as their day-to-day work as winegrowers continued in parallel. Fortunately, Beate has a large family, many of whom have a trade. Craftsmen were sometimes on hand at night to help prepare everything for the next stage of construction, which was due the following day. The new building with wine press room, packing room and terrace covers around 450 m². In 2007, the winery was awarded the first nationwide wine architecture prize for the conversion and new construction work.
Jochen prefers to keep the costs of the conversion to himself, but family support made it feasible. The two children, son and daughter, naturally grew up on the winery during this time. The son has since joined the winegrowing business and the three of them now run the estate. Jochen's parents still live on the first floor of the house built in 1929. There, on the first floor, was still a tavern in Grandpa Emil's time.
