I enjoyed Delroy Lindo's portrayal of Matthew Henson back in 1998 in the movie "Glory and Honor"

What’s so amazing about Mr. Henson’s impactful bio presented yesterday, is he never questioned who he was! An extraordinaire, confident, gifted and talented African-American he proved to be! Yes, initially, Mr. Perry and the then society tried to hide what was obvious. But the TRUTH of the matter is that truthful facts always bubbles forth straight to the top! Mr. Henson is rightly recognized and honored because you and others choose not to remain silent. Thank you! ❤🎉😊

Astounding! I remember reading the book Peary to the Pole in middle school and I remember reading about Matthew Henson, but it didn’t say much about him except he accompanied Peary on his voyage. I’m really glad that Mr. Henson has gotten the recognition for being the first, but it would have better if he’d gotten these accolades while he was still alive.

Remember learning of Matthew Henson in a black history class in Jr High School over 40 plus years ago. This gave MUCH MORE info! The book only spoke of him being the first black person who accompanied Peary as they discovered the North Pole. No mention of his younger life as a little boy, becoming a seaman at 12 years old, receiving training by Captain Childs, his learning the Inuit language and knowledge of handling sled dogs which helped Henson navigate the dangerous terrain of the North Pole as well as how he met Peary. Also, I learned of his first and second wife and so MUCH MORE. This needs to be made into a movie. Thanks, @UniqueColoring.

Hypothesis: the privileged people were like "well, he couldn't vote, just like women & children & non-landowners couldn't vote, so Peary was the person who got there."

I know that Matthew Henson was not given credit for his outstanding ability. However, in an attempt to be racially open-minded, l knew that the reason for his not being given credit, was that he was *only* considered a "member" of the Robert Peary team. He could have been called along to assist the explorers in their physical needs as a servant; like most Blacks at that time. Other than that, he may not have been hired to assist in the venture. But he was the *first* recorded person to be the one to reach the North Pole and plant the U.S. flag at the top of the world. And that was due to the others' inability to reach it. Robert Peary lost some of his toes due to the frigid temperatures. Even in a magazine l read on an international flight, Henson was referred to (in passing) as "Mark Hensen"--one of the crew. It wasn't until recent years that Black historians sought to give him the recognition he deserved. BTW, @1:40...l thought the contemporary name for Eskimos was pronounced, *lN you it* . I'm glad he was finally honored, although posthumously

Thanks for your comment here. The Inughuit are the northernmost group of Inuit in North America, inhabiting Greenland. See here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inughuit#:~:text=The%20Inughuit%20(also%20spelled%20Inuhuit,of%20the%20population%20of%20Greenland. It's also explained in the video.

@UniqueColoring l was listening for it in the video, but wasn't quite sure l heard it. I thought l heard you mention Inuit, and then go back and forth. So l thought l'd check it out--before l opened my mouth--to be sure. I want to be politically correct. Thanks for the enlightenment. I enjoy your videos. Even at my age of 63, I'm ever learning.

Matthew Henson was the first man to reach the North Pole. Yes, he is a black man but the title suggests there were other races that achieved this before him which isn't the case as you made clear in the video. You need to change the title.
