United Auto Workers Stand Up for Working Class in Historic Strike

150,000 UAW auto workers are going on strike because the hugely profitable “big three” US-based car makers continue to refuse to meet the union's demands for fair pay and better working conditions. Denny Butler, the Vice President of UAW Local 685, joined the show a few hours prior to the strike to discuss why every worker has a stake in this historic fight.

I am USW union and I support the UAW too . We will be having negotiations this next year and I hope it goes good but not looking for it to happen with our company ..they just want to line their own pockets..to hell with us .hoping our USW leaders will do what they were elected to do this time ...

I think we all need to bring back the ancient practice of Secessio plebis During the secessio plebis, the plebs would abandon the city en masse in a protest emigration and leave the patrician order to themselves. Therefore, a secessio meant that all shops and workshops would shut down and commercial transactions would largely cease.

How much will this effect the price of the average car? Who will pay the increased cost? What about other people who aren’t Union, how will they afford the higher cost of Union products? Is it just union people win and everyone else loses?

Generally I'm on the side of workers, but this guy is evading the question of what they are asking for. That's a red flag telling me that they're probably asking more than they know is appropriate. Why not just tell us what you're asking for. Everyone agrees execs get paid too much and regular workers sacrificed during the GFC, but those are separate issues from whether the UAW is asking for something fair or unfair.

Less to the shareholders more to the workers. Imagine the shareholders are like a watch face and band; and the workers the gears. You cant tell time if you don’t have the gears.

UAW answering the first question telling Breakthrough News that he's not going ask the companies for much. Look the companies want to decimate auto worker jobs with the introduction of EVs. The UAW wana to help tje companies do it. Instead of demanding a shorter work weeks, the retention of all jobs and the ending of two tier jobs the UAW insists that the workers mucst be fired. So that companies can maintain profit.

The UAW negotiated the contracts. If wages are low its because thats what the UAW wanted for the workers . Hense thats why they negotiated those contracts .

Why do your videos on US class struggle have so little views? It's on this issue the US left should build power. It's interesting Breakthrough has so much attention for people in the global south, but it's not Chinese or African workers who are going to bring about socialism and an end to imperialism in the US.
