As the contract expired in 2019...the UAW allowed the company to EXTEND the expired contract just for us to end up with an 'unspecified' agreement with loophole language that benefited the company. Im STILL pissed about that! Not striking all at once and having workers to continue to produce products for the company's profits is very similar to an extended contract. I'm hoping for a TOTAL WALKOUT for all plant locations at once. If WE don't get what we DESERVE...they shouldn't get our LABOR!!!

In 2009 GM and Delphi gutted salaried retirement under the cover of “bankruptcy protection” that let them put workers last, and then went on to make billions but never made workers whole. So it’s easy to see Fain’s point. Except that in 2009 GM and Obama let the taxpayer top up union pensions and put tens of billions into a VEBA trust that protects retirement health benefits. So ultimately there’s only so much money to go around … and the UAW puts itself first while other stakeholders - including other unions - get table scraps.
@georgebarrera07159 ай бұрын
I do believe it was more than just retirement funds that was gutted. Didn't many employees get layed-off while also having thier current employees gets their wages cut to two-teir wages and newer employees even less so? Not only that but the fall of health insurance also occured. And even then, your argument states, "While the companies themselves experienced great profits in return for the union's sacrifices, they also benefitted themselves by recieving future returns promised such as pensions and VEBA." However, after 2012, which should of been when their pay-cut ended, it did not return. Not only that, but Detroit failed to meet pension plans by 2013. So while I do believe other unions should also be recognized and paid more, its seems unfair to describe or imply the UAW as "spoiled" because, from what it seems, they are owed quite a lot for assisting in Frankensteining the Big Three. Their return to COLA and a pay increase matching what Ford's CEO pay increase was doesn't seem so unfair now that they are out of bankruptcy for 10 long years.
@Pallasathena-hv4kp9 ай бұрын

Smart strategy sir. You will achieve most at the table for your members by maintaining maximum leverage on an ongoing basis. The idea of rotating strikes is a smart way to do so. I have worked on the other side of the bargaining table for my career, with your Union and many other industrial unions in Canada and the USA. I understand your current fight. The numbers work in your favor. Corporate greed is a real problem. In my opinion Tiers should go. Real COLA should be reinstated. Wages must be increased in a significant way 8% per year over a 4 year CA Retirees should receive annual lump sum payments each year of the CA. Either get a 32 hour work week , or get a 7 hour day. Lump sums should only be used for bonuses, not to eliminate base hourly rates. Good luck in your negotiations. Stay strong. The time is now. You have the right approach and I believe will achieve much of what you seek.
