United States Air Force Academy - Basic Cadet Training Class of 2020
The United States Air Force Academy brought in the Class of 2020. Approximately 1,100 appointees showed up for in-processing. The basic cadets will be in training over the summer and ready to be accepted in the cadet wing prior to the fall semester. Appointees are selected from all 50 states and U.S. territories, along with foreign exchange students from abroad. The four year program graduates cadets with a bachelor of science degree and commissions them as second lieutenants into the United States Air Force. B roll includes day 1, in-processing. Intramural sports, military instruction and training.

All I know that I'm a US Marine Sgt in the sandbox from 03-04 and we are the baddest of them all! What I also do know, had it not been for an F-16 / Pilot and the maintenance crews at Balad Air Base in Iraq I, my teammates and my children would not be here today. I would gladly serve again knowing those guys were flying over us. Oorah and God bless the USAF!

Same thing every year with these videos. I swear, they tone it down for the videos or something. I remember them ganging up on people and screaming their lungs out. And of course they don't show shit for the PT that goes on. It's all because of PR. You can't recruit college kids if you show them how shitty it really is before hand.

The funny part are those who say that they should have attended the AF academy instead of Marine Corp boot camp. It is true the academy would be a lot easier until they actually went to the science and engineering classes. At that point, I think they would prefer to be in Marine Corp boot camp. People forget that they only train for four years to be an officer but are taking four years of STEM classes.

Interesting memories....... I had joined the regular Air Force in 1957, just out of high school, and was stationed in Denver, where I watched the first two classes of cadets at the temporary academy. I learned that each geographical area of the regular air force could send up to 6 airmen to the Academy if they passed the entrance tests... and I did, and I was accepted into the class of 1961. But I really just wanted out of the Air Force, I was fed up and wanted to go back to college and civilian life, so I did two years at the Academy and then quit. I had started rebelling, especially towards a Captain who was over us, who was called 'Baby Jesus' because his name was B. J. Ellis, who gave me many demerits and hours walking 'tours' for my rebellion, and I left then after two years of quality education and a nice summer trip to Europe. And now, having just turned 83 years old I still have no regrets at leaving, as I realized that you were required to give up your soul when you signed up for military service........

If you don't have an elite Air Force providing air support, cyber security, analytics, and medical support you'd be at a major disadvantage in this day and age. Call them soft all you want, but these Air Force Officer Cadets and the equipment they're going to operate when they graduate are among the most valuable assets in any modern military.
@stormand64
@stormand64 7 жыл бұрын
Most of you putting these kids and USAFA down could never get accepted to USAFA, West Point, Annapolis, Coast Guard Academy nor the Merchant Marine Academy let alone handle what they do to be at these places. You realize that these academies are schools, don't you? I guarantee that this video does NOT show everything that they have to do nor the stress they go through. But if it makes you feel better about yourself to put down these college students (this is a college), by all means, keep at it.

Awwww... LOL, how cute, the little zoomies had no clue what was awaiting them... It's funny, I was out there for help screening the class of 2013 at Annapolis. It was certainly entertaining to watch them adjust in real time, same process basically. Personally, I was former USAF, now USN. Zoomies... you would have been treated better as junior officers in the Navy or Marines. Still, no where else offers the flight opportunities that are available in the USAF. Zoomies, be proud of your service culture! After all, no other service takes real silverware on deployment or deploys to hotels!!! I wouldn't trade my USAF experience for anything...

Alright. Let's talk about something people don't put this into their heads. I would like to Join the Air Force one day (This might be the case within 3 years) For you to even get accepted. You have to pass the acdemics part. There is a certain test that keeps crossing my mind that you have to pass. (I forgot the name will put it in later!) Then it's training. The PT is not as hard as others (but still is HARD) and you have to physically fit to do so. Also! The AF doesn't reply as much as the other branches. Which is probably why they don't get trained as hard and more of just play team based games to work on communication and teamwork along with effort. Then (I imagine) you split off into more. Cyber security or Jet Pilot. Cyber security you have to pass literally everything and be as organized as ever! If your late, or missing something. You just put a huge dent in trying to be part of cyber security. As for flying Jets. That takes YEARS! (Again I imagine) you don't even get INTO a Jet until you've been taught about everything! The Navy is always 24/7 on a boat. And barely home ever. Army is always deployed when their is a situation. 3000 more families were separated a couple weeks ago and deployed to Iran. The Marines are always almost as deployed as much as the Navy. The coast guard is sortof a watch point position and calls other branches when their is a problem. Air Force is Probably the Smartest/Least deployed Branch. But y'all talking about other branches and calling them trash as if they are a whole nother army for a whole nother country. Just fucking stop. Why do y'all have to get me (who is probably younger than some of you watching) to tell grown ass adults how to act on the INTERNET

Make it a fucking "Civics lesson"....to TEACH some people SHARED sacrifice. You could join the military, fight forest fires, fix parks, deal w/ urban decay, the homeless, ETC., WHATEVER, SOMETHING of service TO country. Instead we have a populace that expects the 1%'ers to make the sacrifice and service....as they don't do shit. If you're not serving your country, you're serving yourself.

Having been at academy basic training, I can tell you that this video is definitely for promotional purposes, with cadre knowing they were on camera and would be representing the academy to future cadets. The sports you see them playing which heavily emphasized in the video are part of intramural sports, and a particular day when all squadrons compete against each other for ranking. This video doesnt show any actual basic training. It doesnt show waking up at 4 am to pushups until the whole squad is ready, it doesnt show eating at only 0600, 1200, and 1800 at attention, and it doesnt show running through fog for what seems like forever. Jack's valley (the field bivouac at the latter half of the video) features confidence courses, obstacle courses, and other courses to test you. This basic is a blur just like any other, where you're constantly tired and stressed and never really get to rest or figure out exactly what's going on. By design.

Coming from a 19'er... It's the same thing for every year with these videos. I swear, they are told to tone it down for the videos or something. I remember them ganging up on people and screaming their lungs out (don't forget whistles and bullhorns). And of course they don't show shit for the actual PT (that exists for the sole purpose of breaking you) that goes on. And consider that... You are taking a lot of very athletic people (ensured by application process) and breaking them; the PT has to be hard to do that. It's all because of PR. You can't recruit college kids if you show them how shitty it really is before hand. Fuck, they don't let us even take pictures of anything (only official sources can) that goes on during BCT (or especially Recognition) because they don't want bad rep.

Eddie Guizar I think it's just a joke between the different branches because there are a lot of jobs in the Air Force that can be done from a chair. It's just a little joke though. Imo it's nothing to get offended by. It's like saying that everyone in the marine corps is stupid or everyone in the navy is gay.

Wh0ww !, this very beautiful mountain in the backdrop "IS" what I think, can probably be comprable to the 1 (that imposing Hawaiian mountain range) what we usually see of the "in-bound heli" scene, featured in the arrival to Isla Nublar of 'Jurassic Park & Jurassic World' Franchise. Just a thought.., maybe in any or some other future follow-up instalment(s) of this popular hit & now essentially an iconic (Pop-)cultured movie, Producers wud too see it good as I do, to pick this (described) grounds in the back there (with uf corz, USAF's permission & approval, that goes w/o say) as (probably) the next thing among this Franchise' principal filming locations. How 'bout it, duz anyone think this coud in the least evn be possible, if in fact the 'Bigwigs' agree.

The whole thing doesn't seem to be tough at all (compared to the Marines), but nothing is certain....I presume the difficulty must be in the sciences they need to master and the grades they need to get to be a pilot

All you people who put down these kids are all stupid fools who have absolutly no idea what a military academy is all about. They are colleges , academics , along with the basics of military basic training. Those who have it and do graduate go on to additional training in their respective career fields. They are not all going to train as pilots. There are many career fields which these new officers will enter? You idiots who put them down wouldn't last the first year. The Air Force has no place for brainless fools like you.
