Mallory works hard to stay in tip-top shape all year so she's willing to high-press the opposition for a solid 60, easy. She's the nearest thing we have to Carli Lloyd, since her retirement. We've won lots of tournaments based on that high-press strategy. When we don't, press, the games are much closer. (e.g.: 2019 WWC knockout games). Rapinoe's press was weak sauce. That's part of why we did so poorly in the 2020 (played in 2021, actually) Tokyo Olympics. For whatever crazy reasons, Vlatko would *not* play the Press - Lloyd - Swanson line. .

@@AllenCross rapinoes press was not weak sauce bro...the left side of the pitch was shakier given their lineup was always up in the air (rapinoe injuries, dunn at LB, Ertz vs. Mewis. Horan). Comparitvely, Tobin Heath, Kelly O'Hara and Rose Lavelle had that right side locked DOWN for years. Amazing combo and they r missed dearly!

This Japan team beat eventual champions Spain 4-0 at World Cup. Of course they could have played better against this average US team. Japan have quality players as good as the US side has.

Spain winning the WC doesn’t mean they’re the strongest team in the world, the US team failing the WC doesn’t mean they were not strong. In soccer or any sports, upsets happen. The US team has always been strong and controlled most matches they’ve played but scoring has been their problem. They attack but don’t score and when the opponent counter attack they sometimes don’t have enough players in the back and let the opponent score. In this match with the return of Malory Swanson their attack became more dangerous. I didn’t watch the entire match though but from the highlights I could tell the US controlled possession, Japan relied on counter attacking.

The US won the game because the US disruptive play and caused a lot of problems in the spaces. The last She Believes game in 2003 Japan controlled things, this was not the case this time in 2024.

You have to simply by better than them by out playing, out strategizing or just being bigger, stronger faster or taller. I root for the us & want to see them do real well. But they barely won. It was through a rare error. And I don’t really like to see wins decided through penalties. Over all, i would rather good executed, dribbling passes with clinical finishing. I have watched both Japan and USWNT many years. Japan could win other teams in the world easily. Yet, they always had a hard time against the USWNT. They just couldn't overcome the pressing from the US players. Physically they still have some weakness. I do believe they are making progress. Hope they will figure out soon how to beat the US effectively.

I saw the game and the balls they gave away were impressive, it even seemed like they did it on purpose, even at the end, even though they were losing, they didn't go on the attack....it's a US tournament so I don't want to think that they gave the game to the US.

To do so, it's not just about technique, but also about fitness. That's my opinion.
