These latest vids are great - Unity really needs to show the benefits/differences between URP & HDRP, especially with so many cool assets for URP which can make it seem as if the same effects can be achieved easier... HDRP needs a lot of work to make it more accessible - lot's of great features, but they feel hidden away and awkward to access. Keep the vids coming please - simple scenes that highlight the benefits of the Chosen Render pipeline... :-)

I really appreciate this tutorial... in part because for some reason 'focal length' is the name of the slider that controls focal distance... which was confusing me to no end because on real cameras focal length is only used to refer to the actual physical length of the lens from the gate to the front element (like 35mm, 50, etc) and focal distance is how far away the subject is from the camera... the mislabelling of this in the Unity camera confused the heck out of me. Does this mean that in HDRP, cinemachine cameras and cinemachine post effects and post volumes no longer work? I'm confused as to which set of cameras I am supposed to be using in HDRP... Cinemachine ones, or the built in camera with blends?

I really need to get back into Unity development. So much cool stuff has been added to the engine since I started using it back in 2016.

Right after I got a job as a Unity3D Software engineer and there wasn't much motivation for like a year and a half. A couple months ago I started working on something bigger... Hope it will become a release-able game... So far, reached 18k lines of code, multiplayer, rpg, replayable, etc. And I am only 24 years old, I believe I have yet so much to learn, including shaders, which I still avoid.

when will be the fov settings added to the custom pass in HDRP (like URP or LWRP does)? I noticed that using more than one camera in game is really expensive for gpu

Soo. When are you going to realize that camera body settings (includin sensor settings) and lens settings can be separate ScriptableObject "presets", so that you could exchange lenses or camera bodies just like in real life? Unity, I hope you see this.
@Jawsarn

Hmm, maybe as a override? You would want to be able to animate those settings as well no?
@aarondavidlewis
@aarondavidlewis 3 жыл бұрын
OMG - this is such a good point. As a cinematographer, I can tell you that as good as Unity cameras are, they really don't function like real cameras at all in terms of labels, function names, workflows... I would love to have a set of scriptable assets that are basically prime lenses that default to a realistic look for 24mm/f1.8, 35mm/f1.4, 50mm/f1.4 and 100mm/f2. Also, a much clearer workflow for follow focus would be very helpful... like just a clear 'Focus Distance' slider on all master and virtual cameras built in without having to add extra volumes with an 'override' checkbox on each virtual camera if you wanted to override the brain cameras focus settings. Setting up a clear focus workflow is strrangely difficult here, and behaves very little like real focus. Focus tends to snap... from way out of focus, to infinity focus at some fairly arbitrary feeling point.

Starting to believe that Unity wants to become some sort of movie engine.
@sandakureva

I've seen quite a few animations in it, and it makes sense. Rather the old style of animation that you have to spend weeks rendering, you can just script it all as a game that plays itself. It's kind of a neat use for the engine.
@Onidourou

@@sandakureva What I find neat is stability - which Unity is quite lacking right now. 2019 is far from being usable in continuous development, and I won't even bring up performance as plenty other people already have.

I don't think it 'wants' to become a movie engine. It's just that directors are starting to find realtime tools in game engines more efficient to work with.
