I love my Apollo Twin X and yes - I've bought a ton of plugins! More than I need for sure but it's been a fun journey through recording history with all the vintage emulations. I'd buy it again it it up and died.

Eye-opening video! 'Definitely surprised by the "..whatever you spend on the Apollo Twin X, you're probably going to spend even more on the plugins" statement. I was skeptical so I googled my way to the UAD plugins page. Man, you weren't kidding. Surprised not just by the pricing, but the volume of plug-in options. Overwhelming on both fronts.

what I actually meant was... you'll end up spending SOME more money on plugins than you planned/expected... but in reality... you could easily spend more money on plugins than the Apollo itself!! in fairness: they are that versatile, and that good. way cheaper than buying all that hardware. Ive probably spent $450 on plugins. which I think is respectable and I don't really have the need right now for more.

Great video! I pulled the trigger on this Apollo two weeks ago, and can safely echo what you said... it is WELL worth the money! I got into home recording about 1.5 years ago, started with a $100 interface, and cheap plugins - then the $300 Axe IO and it's bundled Aplitube. I've tried the veneralble Neural DSP, and was never satisfied. Everthing sounded like garbage! Must be me, right?... so I nervously bought the Apollo, "praying" that it would end my sonic woes. And sure enough, it's night and day. The UAD system, although not cheap, smokes every other interface, and their Unison and plugin technology smokes every sim out there. If you're serious about making your music sound the best it can, get this system!!! (and of course, a good set of monitors is a must as well!!)

well said! I think what you and i both learned is this... if you were aiming for the "top" (or close to it) from the beginning, could have saved a lot of time and money by just going for apollo from the beginning. although... you do learn some things on the journey and if you can sell or find a new home for that middle-ground gear, that's ok too.

Which month during midsummer does this sale take place, exactly? And, how much is it reduced? Is it also reduced on on Black Friday or Christmas? And, what is the exact sale price more or less at that point? I am totally ready to get one of these units. Just trying to be a bit more cost conscious nowadays with all my purchases. Thanks!

By the way, this is all you need. You don’t need to get the quad version. All of their plug-ins will eventually run on your Mac natively most of the popular plugins already do. You only need the DSP for input monitoring with either a vocal strip, or a guitar channel with just a few plug-ins for monitoring purposes with low latency

Cool video. The Apollo Twin X was a finalist in my decision when trying to decide what "pro level" interface to go with. I ended up going with the RME Babyface Pro FS because the latency is so low even with plugins. On M1 Pro MacBook Pro, I'm getting 3.5ms round trip latency with plugins rolling and input monitoring turned on. Also, RME drivers are fantastic. This was a close 2nd though...it was the plugin cost and driver instability on Windows that deterred me from the Twin X. For those that wonder, biggest thing with interfaces like UAD Apollo Twin (and RME like I mentioned above) is you basically hit the diminishing return wall, where you have to spend TONS of money to get "better."

Great video, Brodie. I am sold. I have been getting tired of having to deal with the mess of my ever-growing hardware chain and cables. I have been thinking about switching to Apollo Twin X and ITB editing. However, I am worried about the endless cost of plug-ins especially that I have a gear-acquisition syndrome. Do you have a video that describes the plug-ins you are using?
@HomeStudioPro
@HomeStudioPro Жыл бұрын
thanks for being here. yes, I have produced a few videos detailing the signal chains I use for specific microphones. some of them have been published... more will be out very soon. I think you can keep the plugin cost reasonable... demo periods are available so try them all first before you make any investments. I probably spent $400 and could have spent half that and got everything I needed on plugins. haven't bought much more since the very beginning.

Just found this channel after subscribing to your first one. Great channel! -Would love to see how you would create a stack with the U87 ai and the Twin for an audiobook. Thinking about getting a WA 73 EQ. Currently use the 88RS up top, into the Precision de-esser, into the C-vox, to the Massenburg, to the DFC channel strip. Minimal-ish on each, but it can sound not as natural as I’d like it at times.

Have they ever opened? The reason I ask is, certain DAWs will have issues actually opening and displaying plugins if the DAW architecture is incorrect (32bit vs 64bit for example). Good luck!

I’ve spent well over $1000 and have maybe 10% of their plug-ins. It’s not worth buying plug-ins one by one or even when they’re on sale. Your best bet is to just buy the bundle for $1000 and get like 145 plug-ins Each plug-in comes out to like way under $10 each instead of $50-$100 each. It’s a one time purchase and you’re all done or you can get all of them for I think 12 or 1300 during the holiday sales. Be smart and get them all at once as a one time investment.
