Hi! That's a great question. (Sorry for my late reply, by the way). Firstly, my 2i4 is actually 1st gen (that's how old it is) but it actually still works really well. To answer your question though, I don't think it is worth it (I discuss this question in more detail in my video here - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ibxli8qnp53XdZc.html - which you can check out if you have time). You might want to think about why you want to upgrade. Is your current 2i4 failing? If not, you might find that these other interfaces you list in your comment are pretty comparable to what you already have, so it may not be worth upgrading to any of those. Hope that helps :)

Tracking compression is the way to go. You can turn mixer levels on the daw down if you think the compression is too loud

That 2nd gen is old faithful. I just got a 476 but kept old faithful as a backup

I think it depends a lot on your OS or the DAW you're using - whichever you want to monitor through your Volt from. If it's on your DAW, then it would be a routing thing - have a look at your I/O there. If it's your OS, maybe you have to download/update your Volt's driver. Hope that helps; all the best.

I think it'd be a good idea to make sure your computer is turned on first, then you can turn on the interface, and then you can turn on any other devices connected to the interface (e.g., studio monitors / speakers)
