I had the same issue with the MOTU M4 and my Macbook Pro M1. I tried with many different USB-C cables and achieved some improvement when using an Apple USB-C power chord or other USB-C cables that tolerate high W. However, the only thing that completely removed pops and clicks (5 ms latency with many VSTs and audio tracks) was to use the USB-C-to-A cable that came with the MOTU M4 and then connect the USB-A end through a multiport adapter. USB-C end in the M4. If you have mixed up your USB cables: in my case, the USB-A end has blue plastic on the connecting end. Satechi and Apple multiport adapters both worked in my case. It is a bit annoying, but it works for me. Currently, I use a "Satechi Slim USB-C MultiPort adapter V2".
@Tech-DinoАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing your info! Apple has 60W USB-C or 240W USB-C cables, so I can expect the 240W cable has a better quality? Is this a power problem og the MOTU M4 getting to less power via USB-C? Maybe the MOTU M6 with external power is a better option? The SATECHI USB-C Hub Slim Multiport Adapter V2 will cost 65€.
@EricsMusic1onYTАй бұрын
Thanks for sharing this. I personally wouldn't be bothered having to look for solutions to MOTU's problems - I've never had such issues with other interfaces, so I ended up taking it back to the store.

@EricsMusic1onYT6 ай бұрын
I think it depends a lot on your OS or the DAW you're using - whichever you want to monitor through your Volt from. If it's on your DAW, then it would be a routing thing - have a look at your I/O there. If it's your OS, maybe you have to download/update your Volt's driver. Hope that helps; all the best.

You should also dive into the Kazrog Plugins. True Iron/True Dynamics/Kclip 3 are my go to plugins at the moment in any project. The Arturia stuff are also ridiculously good as I swear by their hardware emulations (Comp FET-76/EQ SITRAL -295/Delay Tape 201/Rev PLATE-140).

Thanks for your suggestions! I will definitely have a look at Kazrog plugins; I've never used them but have heard that they're great, especially True Iron and the clipper. I'll also check out those Arturia ones but to be honest, I'm a little less keen for that because I find Arturia's plugs annoying - it always forgets that I have the full license for the plugs so I have to jump through a bunch of hoops before I can use them, but of course, if they sound good then it might all be worth it after all. Thanks for watching the video!

@EricsMusic1onYT8 ай бұрын
There's no power switch but what I did was I plugged an in-line rocker switch in between the unit and the wall socket so I could just use that as the switch to turn it on or off. You can probably buy one of those at your local electronics store.

But this is the way the 1176 type compressors work, don’t they? You set the gain where it starts to clip slightly, engage the compressor, and then increase the gain to get as much compression as needed.
@EricsMusic1onYT10 ай бұрын
Yeah but the difference is, on the 1176, you've got that Output knob that you can dial back to prevent clipping the next stage. On this UA Volt 476, you don't have that, so to get any compression, you need the signal to be hot enough to engage the compressor, but then it becomes very risky because when the signal is that hot, you could end up going over 0dB.

When i connect this preamp in the my Steinberg ur22c in xlr cabels i have Very noise. I need connect ts cable?😊
@EricsMusic1onYT10 ай бұрын
I'm not very familiar with the Steinberg interfaces other than having heard that they have a very high noise floor to start with. From your comment, I think what you might be doing is connecting the output of the ART preamp to the input of the preamp on your Steinberg, which would raise the level of noise (because the noise from the ART preamp is being combined with the noise from the Steinberg preamp). So if your Steinberg preamp has a line input that doesn't go through the mic preamp of the interface, you could try connecting the output of the ART preamp into that line input. That should decrease the noise significantly. But I'm not 100% if that Steinberg interface you're using actually has any of the line inputs I'm talking about. Good luck; let me know how you go.

@EricsMusic1onYT11 ай бұрын
I think you can't actually push the input too much. If you need to, you can turn the voicing knob to the OPL section which is pretty much a limiter but still, I don't think it sounds very good like that. It's all about balancing, really.

i have a se dynamite preamp stick, is it necessary if i were to get one myself?
@EricsMusic1onYT Жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm not sure I understand your question, but I'll try my best here. So if you only have that dynamite preamp stick, which I think is an inline mic preamp, then that and the UA Volt do different things, so it depends on what you need to do. If you want to record something using a mic, then you probably need an audio interface, like the UA Volt. The dynamite preamp stick thingy is simply a mic preamp that will lift the level of your signal; the UA Volt has a mic preamp built-in, so I would say you probably don't need the preamp stick if you have an audio interface with a built-in mic preamp. I hope that helps.
