This groundbreaking cinematic event stars Tom Cruise as Jack Harper, the lone security repairman stationed on a desolate, nearly-ruined future Earth. Academy Award®-winner Morgan Freeman joins Cruise in this “visually stunning” (Pete Hammond, Movieline), explosive story from the director of TRON: Legacy and the producer of Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

this was the dumbest movie ever. It took the resistance how many years to figure out, maybe we should drop our masks? Also, hydrogen and oxygen ie water are among the most abundant elements in the universe. That said, I did enjoy it for the blue lagoon aspect

@@reacp9114 I remember reading a theory about how the Tet uses the civilizations it enslaves as social experiments to understand organics better. Yes, it would be much easier for the Tet to skim Jupiter's atmosphere for hydrogen to power itself, but it wouldn't learn anything. Also what do you mean by the resistance "dropping their masks"? The masks shield them from the drone scans.

@@reacp9114 actually yeah, why is it always water the aliens want? The Tet is literally parked next door to Enceladus, a giant ball of ice. Maybe they don’t own a kettle? It was the same premise for Battle Los Angeles. And then in Signs, the aliens are allergic to water! And they land on a planet where two thirds of the surface is covered in it. And they couldn’t figure out how a door works lol

5:26 is why Kosinski is a great filmmaker and did a sensational job on Maverick. Oblivion doesn't have the best writing, the plot is very interesting but the narration uneven... but it's a visual marvel, not as much as Tron Legacy, but still. It’s sad how underrated this movie is! This is one of the few work of science fiction adaptations that got the drones so right! The drones in this movie are some of the most formidable pieces of tech shown in film; exactly what I would expect from an advanced alien AI capable of decimating the entire human race. One drone could take on a literal army in this movie, and it did! Whereas in most movies, enemies feared by all are bested by a protagonist who gets on a vehicle claiming he doesn’t even know how the run the damn thing. All that on his first and only attempt. I mean wtf!?

They "know" they were 5 years into the mission, that the drone got broken, and that there are 2 more weeks left, but that's because that's what the Tet planted in their brains, in reality they were never supposed to leave earth, and the drone was supposed to keep an eye on them. Mandolarian actually uses a bunch of techniques they pioneered here with this movie, like the digital sets with big basically movie screens around them showing the environment that give proper lighting to the props/characters and are high-res enough to actually be used on-camera instead of needing VFX CGI replacement afterwards. It also lets the actors actually see and react to what's supposed to be around them, since they can actually see it there, instead of having to just imagine it on green screen. It was a big step up from usual green screen set stuff.

I feel like Kosinski saw the canyon chase in ID4 and asked, “How can I make this better?” Well, I’d say he accomplished that goal! This sequence is fire! 🔥🔥🔥🔥 It’s because of this film I had so much faith in Maverick, and that faith was rewarded too!

I ABSOLUTELY love this movie. I’ve watched it over and over again and I can never get over how underrated it is. The story, the plot development, the character arcs, the composition, the soundtrack, the conflict, to me: this is a perfect example of film perfection. Also in this drone scene, I love the fact that the pilot area of jacks jet is an actual prop that rotates and goes upside down. Makes the scene fell so much more real. Other than comic book based movies, this has got to be in my top 3 movies if not close to 1
