@@joanbautista Yes it is. Cambridge (where he studied) was closed due to the plague, and in that time he developed calculus, his theories on gravitation and optics, as far as I know. There should be something stated about it on the wiki page! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Early_life_of_Isaac_Newton

@@inakimendiberri2226 I'm actually taking 3 labs online this term and it's an absolute joke. All we do is memorize and fill in sheets to submit them yet the lab professors still have the audacity to get upset when we don't do things perfectly right.. Huh.

Elementary schools be like "ok dads. You are on your own for a while. We know you have no idea what 4th and 2nd graders are supposed to learn, but some of you remember school so best of luck." Physics dads be like "Ok kids. I know that basic mechanics can be a bit challenging for 10 year olds, so to make this easier we are going to ignore rotational friction."

I understand some kids cant handle too much but a lot of them can and too many schools, esspecially elementary, prevent students from advancing at their own pace if their pace is faster than the schools. They always say they want to students to go at their own pace if that pace is slower tho and then they hold everyone else back because of that 🙄

You forgot the professor who refused to go online, so now the dean has to find another professor willing to take on another class, who then becomes overloaded with coursework and just sends you youtube videos. So yeah, this is the most expensive free online content I've ever paid for.

@@gormenfreeman499 Put in some effort and teach it yourself. You think college is the end of the line ? If you don't want to learn independently good luck in the real world. You will probably last 1 year MAX as an engineer or scientist(assuming if you even earn your degree) If engineering or science is not your thing( which should be obvious from the beginning of your program) then pick another path.

@@alexv5581 And yet... he has a class which exists for the appearent purpose of teaching him those things. On a similar note, you can't "learn independantly." You can only learn from alternative sources, unless you are perhaps expecting him to put together the experiments required to "indepednantly" discover the concepts he was supposed to learn, without any guidance on how to do so or what things he needs to test. He could get a different source, such as a textbook or another online resorce, but again, the class is supposed to provide that; that's it purpose.

I mean my first try would be intergral of x•(x+5)^(-1) which is still gross but whatever, engineers throw all their calculations into a computer anyway (nobody has time for 5 pages of work with 3 silly mistakes in the middle per problem just to convolve h(t) with x(t) )

That's the one thing I liked about my physics professors. It's them *rewriting* notes that haven't changed for 15 years on the board, rather than showing a 15 year old powerpoint. Fuck powerpoint lectures.

My lasers class was next level: These notes are based on a powerpoint that *someone else* made 15 years ago and I started using 10 years ago. For real though, I can't imagine why they're even bothering with lab classes. Trying to figure out how chemistry works without actually mixing stuff together is like trying to learn to cook by only reading recipes.

Especially when your professor tells you to just do the lab based off the in-class lab handout. And then they don’t reply to your multiple emails when you have very real and obvious questions like “how on earth am I supposed to get these chemicals and carry out an experiment with zero equipment?” And then they proceed to deduct points from your lab grade when you turn in your report with zero data on it.

There is still a fair bit of chemistry that is theoretical, but you're right of course, some things do need to be hands on.

The theoretical lab is very real. My professor is going to film himself doing the experiments and we are going to write the reports based on his results.

That's what we did too! Except we also had video software, so he filmed it but we used the software to measure where the ball landed or the spring moved at each frame in the video with a meter stick in the background as reference.

Truth is that in Italy we have about 6 hours of classes everyday, Monday thru Friday, and sometimes profs have to do something else during their mornings, so that's why they upload/give lectures during the weekend. Sometimes they just want to cover more material. Haha

we got given a version of the practical to do using equipment "everyone has at home" me: "hi i dont have scales with a resolution of 1gram like you stated" "its fine just do the practical anyway" "but my scales have a resolution of 25grams" "it's fine" me: *gets a negative value for the mass of a blutack and 112% uncertainty* me: *submits lab report anyway*

This online stuff starts for me on Monday and Wednesday we get to figure out how remotely access lab computers that have over priced software the school doesn't have extra licenses for, yay ..... Oh and most schools around me have cancelled there commencement ceremonies and while mine hasn't yet cancelled there is talk that there going to completely close off campus until July which would cancel it. Oh and I'm a student employee who graduates so I officially lose my job in May and can't work right now.... I really wish everyone would just lock down for two weeks instead of this piecemeal BS that's going to lead to it anyway, dragging it out is just hurting those of us who are doing the right thing now. Well that's my frustrated rant, thanks for the funny (and true) video lol.

"The PowerPoint I made 15 YA and haven't changed since" : ) : ) There's no notes. The slides are there to remind me what the next 5 min of lecture is about. At least I wasn't just reading the slides. Exporting slides to accessible Word format and adding notes to finish the semester. Class starts back on 30 MAR. We're all havin fun.

Top tier collab guys! A perfect representation of how universities will be conducted. As a EE & PHYS major, this will certainly be interesting as to how lectures will go. For the most part, my professors are holding live video conferences so it shouldn't be too bad, right? Be safe everyone during these times and use common sense when/if interacting with others. Haha these actually happened in my first few online lectures. CS professor forgot to share his screen and he doesn't read chat until the end of class so we just all laughed in chat wondering what was going on... his reaction when he finally realized was absolutely priceless

Epic collab! A suggestion:could you upload a video that is based around richard Feynman atmost every one month? He is an inspiration for so many of us(physics majors) and a big reason as to why a lot of people join our field! This also resolves your video idea problem.

My department want to put final exams (still closed book) online, where 3 hours after the paper goes off we have to upload pictures of our solutions. We have to sign a sheet saying we promise we didn't cheat, and that's the only security... Unsurprisingly people are pissed off.
