How to forget by Kate Mulgrew can be purchased here: tiny.cc/HowtoForget
In this profoundly honest and examined memoir about returning to Iowa to care for her ailing parents, the star of Orange Is the New Black and bestselling author of Born with Teeth takes us on an unexpected journey of loss, betrayal, and the transcendent nature of a daughters love for her parents.
They say you cant go home again. But when her father is diagnosed with aggressive lung cancer and her mother with atypical Alzheimers, New York-based actress Kate Mulgrew returns to her hometown in Iowa to spend time with her parents and care for them in the time they have left.
The months Kate spends with her parents in Dubuque-by turns turbulent, tragic, and joyful-lead her to reflect on each of their lives and how they shaped her own. Those ruminations are transformed when, in the wake of their deaths, Kate uncovers long-kept secrets that challenge her understanding of the unconventional Irish Catholic household in which she was raised.
Breathtaking and powerful, laced with the authors irreverent wit, How to Forget is a considered portrait of a mother and a father, an emotionally powerful memoir that demonstrates how love fuses children and parents, and an honest examination of family, memory, and indelible loss.
Kate Mulgrew a native of Dubuque, Iowa, is an actress and author with an extensive career on stage and screen. From her start as Mary Ryan, the lead role on the popular soap opera Ryan's Hope to the groundbreaking first female starship captain on Star Trek: Voyager to her acclaimed performance as Galina "Red" Reznikov on Netflix's smash hit Orange Is The New Black, Kate brings a formidable presence and deep passion to all her projects. Her 2016 book, Born With Teeth, allowed her to add "New York Times bestselling author" to her resume.

Kate is a fascinating person. Beautiful, inside and out, smart, strong, and talented. It seems to me that her father was a bit like mine. My Dad resented anything that brought me happiness or success. That would include my own relationships with other family members. Anytime that I was right or proved him wrong he was..irritated. "How?" He regularly asked. After all, a woman should not be more wise than a man. I have not ever come close to being as successful as my potential would have dictated but, even my small mile stones were never rewarded with praise, but, with criticism. Still. My father's obsession of keeping up with the Joneses and resenting others accomplishments, over a lifetime, has sculpted his character. Not mine. To observe my state of happiness in even the toughest of times continues to annoy him. That is not a reflection of me. If anything, I have pity for anyone who purposely works against those they love, out of spite. I am so fortunate to not have that inside of me. I am more like my mother was but, I do know that my parents did love me, in their own subtle ways. It is encouraging to listen to Kate's experiences. I have always felt that fame and fortune does not save people from heartbreak but, strength and determination can help them to overcome and endure. My Dad has "memory loss" or dementia, now, and it is a big help to find understanding through others' experiences. Thank you, Kate, for sharing. For being real. Your books are absolutely on the budget list. I can't wait to get reading! You, your career and your insight are a true gift to others. Thank you, again.

Thank you so much for uploading this. Wish I had been over that way so I could see some of her book tour. But am on the other side of the world in NZ, so clips like this mean a lot. Thank you. Just got my copy of the book - can’t wait to sit down and read it.
