This match was obviously more one-sided than our Manchester match but it was a good game and it was very nice playing against Southampton, so well done to them! I think everyone on our team did very well, and I'm glad I got some nice buzzes. Missing Russell was unfortunate, and I think I was thrown off by the fact that I thought there were many rivers called Stour but couldn't actually place any of them. The picture round on women who should have won Nobels was definitely nice, although I remember being able to mostly guess which ones would come up. The Episcopalian/Episcopal mix up was also unfortunate. Anyway, it was a great match, and the second round can only get harder from here!

I think this is the first time at a repechage round where I correctly guessed which team would win based on their first round performances. Love the Trinity team and it seems like they appreciate each other very much. Their captain seems like a jolly person and the way he clutched his fist everytime Banerjee answered a starter was appreciable. Also he has a good sense of humour with the "No Sorry Pass"😂.

@castelodeossos39478 ай бұрын
Only to the mean-minded (one of the new virtues) is the 'come on' in any way arrogant or patronising. It denotes good-natured disbelief, and is in fact praise, because (as in Paxman's case), it suggests that people as clever as the contestants should know the answer.

Thanks as ever for your service, especially today as one of our dogs passed away so something good to lessen my sadness 😥 . In comparison to the last two weeks, that match was a bit more like it 👍! Very impressive from the winners - very much on the competitive side of the mix but we'll have to see what happens in the dreaded Round of 16 ⚔. I did enjoy seeing Ms. Harrington's apparent head-bopping to the UC theme at the start of the episode as a more unusual highlight as well 😃.

There aren’t that many trumpet concertos from that era, so if you‘ve heard of Hummel’s and could hear it wasn’t Haydn’s, it was pretty much a given.

I tied myself up in knots trying to decide whether to buzz with Bach or not haha - I started second-guessing myself as we had Bach (Goldberg Variations bonus part) in our first round match. Should’ve trusted my gut! Though clearly if I’d known the Brandenburgs well enough it wouldn’t have been an issue (plus I have no excuse for not getting the Liszt too…)

Thanks a big bunch for the upload, CP! Trinity seemed almost invincible and Southampton was strangely subdued. Their captain didn't get much help from her team. They are much better than they showed, me thinks. Trinity will feature prominently in the next couple of rounds.

Thank you for Mr.CosmicPumpkin uploading the competition. I feel a little sorry Magdalen-Oxford(I graduated from)couldn't entry this year. But I'm always fond of solving hard questions. In my sense every year E14 seems the easiest in level of the questions wholly, also in this year. Actually this E15 today sounded much harder than the E14 which had several cute questions last week, especially for a natural scientist as me.

Thanks again, CosmicPumpkin! I'm just going to say it...the losing team just never had a chance in this. The winners were far more complete, confident, and quicker on the buzzer. Not that they really needed to be quicker. I mean no disrespect to the losing team, they were very likeable, and I'm sure they will have wonderful lives. Amol Rajan always seems to rush in the last few minutes. It would be much fairer to all if he maintained the same pace throughout.
@Andy2kk8 ай бұрын
I think it's better this way, gives a sense of urgency at the end.
@PH4RX8 ай бұрын
Why would it be fairer? Both teams have the chance to buzz the starter and both teams are rushed on the bonus. Sure, if you are the losing team but not by much and the last questions are your specialty, then you can gain more points - maybe. As you would have answered those questions anyway.
@castelodeossos39478 ай бұрын
Mr Paxman did the same. Have always presumed it was an attempt to allow the losing team to get more points.
@kagisonko32798 ай бұрын
I don't think that is true. I think he does it from the get go. This is why people have been commenting on the pace of the show and how many teams were able to achieve high scores.
@fidomusic8 ай бұрын
Bamber Gascoigne and Jeremy Paxman also sped up towards the end. In one of the documentaries mentioned that it was a decision to speed up at the end to make the show more exciting - give the climax a sense of urgency.

Thank you for the upload CosmicPumpkin. So my thoughts…I have thus far maintained a rather positive stance toward Amol Rajan's new role as a presenter. However, the latest episode breached the threshold of my silent tolerance. While I, up until now, appreciated his amiable demeanor and deemed him a suitable inheritor of the UC realm, this particular episode witnessed a lamentable deviation. Rajan appeared markedly unserious, indulging excessively in banter and permitting some egregiously incorrect responses to go unchallenged. Also, his tempo exhibited an unsettling unpredictability. Acknowledging that this marks his inaugural season and that a period of acclimatization is inevitable, all creds to him thus far. Nevertheless, these recent lapses, notably in the aforementioned episode, have stirred a profound sense of disquiet within me. I ardently yearn for a restoration of rigor within the University Challenge milieu, especially as the competition goes on and stakes continue to rise.
@castelodeossos39478 ай бұрын
The poor man is trying too hard not to be the (non-existent) rude, arrogant and patronising Paxman that a minority of mean-minded viewers imagined he was. Even so, did myself find there was more vigour to his usually dull delivery and a good pace too. Like Paxman when he was younger.
