They're a bit slow, especially on bonuses, and Chadha needs to be more decisive in answering. I think they may fall swiftly to a team like Imperial. But I agree that they're a enjoyable team to watch, and I hope they continue to do well. EDIT to add that they did indeed fall swiftly to Imperial. A nice and very competent team, but they bowed out at the right time and perhaps even lucked into a couple wins.

It's part of the meta of University Challenge now. You can't confer on starters, but you can convey to your teammates that you have no intention to answer by doing something like that. Although usually most teams just have their members raise their hands off their buzzers.

That was such high quality. Birkbeck caught fire towards the middle and that was kinda enough to keep them ahead. Very strong again from McMillan but the others chipped in significantly as well.

MUCH better from both teams in comparison to their 1st QF - shame we have to say goodbye to Sheffield but I think it means all of them have given at least one correct buzz in every game, which is a nice spread of contributions ;)! But you can't ignore Mr McMillan's brilliance - that's 22 (23 including the TB) in only 4 games - don't know if they'll reach the semis but if Birkbeck can replicate that performance there's every chance!

A few other observations: 19 rounds (19 rounds completed; the game ended as the starter question in the 20th round was being asked) 22 starter questions (19 rounds + 3, as neither side answered the initial starter question correctly in the 9th, 14th and 19th rounds) 57 bonus questions (19 rounds x 3) 79 questions in total (22 starter + 57 bonus) 505 points available in total (22 x10, plus 57 x 5) 71.3% of the 505 points available were scored ((200 + 160)/505) Birkbeck 39.6% of the total points available (200/505); Starters 10/22; Bonuses 21/30: Penalties x1 Sheffield 31.7% of the total points available (160/505); Starters 9/22; Bonuses 15/27; Penalties x1 Incidentally, there were a few minor errors in your analysis, which I thought I might mention. They are extremely minor. The job that you do with the statistics is phenomenal, and it is greatly appreciated by me. I mention the following only as a matter of interest. You recorded 28 attempts at starter questions in total (i.e. 10 + 0 + 2 + 3; 4 + 4 + 1 + 4). There actually 29 attempts at starter questions in total (19 correct answers and 10 incorrect answers. This is excluding the starter question in the 20th round which was interrupted by the game ending). Neither team was close to getting this right so maybe it doesn't matter but did anyone else find it odd that for the second picture round they were asked to give a one-word answer but the answer has two words? Could this be a gaffe by the writers?

Re: Ever-increasing download file size - while we're all eternally+internally hugely grateful to Cosmic P for his splendid efforts I do wonder why the low-res 144 option that I almost always select seems to have grown from a around 22-23 Mb to 40Mb+ in the space of a year or so. This trend seems to be occurring with many KZfaq file downloads. Does anyone know if KZfaq's operatives are able to slyly secrete cookies and other spyware in their zillions of video files so that they can do a little sneaky snooping whenever we download what we believe to be innocent, harmless video files? Anyone smart enough to attempt a very brainy response? Paul G

I thought the questions were kind of hard this time around. I managed for once to keep count all the way through (using a counter app on my mobile) and got only 11 right. Then again, I know nothing about electronic music of the late 20th century and I’m not especially strong on Africa or southeast Asian history.

Amol gives that bit of encouragement to every team that is somewhat behind. (I’m never sure if the team it is directed toward finds it reassuring or a bit unnerving.)

It is unnerving, condescending and pointless. They are not going to try harder or do better, because the questioner makes such a comment. The only reason I can think of why Amol would make such a comment is that Paxo used to make the same inane comment although not quite as often.
