When You tour Ohio states facility there is motivation everywhere you look to beat UM. Way different culture here and it shows on the field.

How come Michigan State can’t get a facility like this?! It’s unfortunate the only sports the Spartan Athletics Dept. cares about are football and basketball. 😢

Mark Dudley The way it usually works with projects like these, particularly at MSU and UM, are general donations of various amounts to the athletic department. Then the athletic department(s) sort and put aside different amounts for different sports or projects they are currently working on. The University of Michigan is able to bring in TONS of donation money since it has one of the largest populations of living alumni in the entire world along with the fact that it’s a name brand in college athletics and academics. Michigan State is not as lucky, due to various “recent issues,” along with the fact that there are not as many “dominant sports teams” at MSU as there are at UM. Less people donate today due to the Nassar scandal (I’ve seen many MSU alumni and fans say they will never donate to the university again) and there are quite a few teams at the bottom of the B1G at MSU, one being track and field (even though cross country is usually a title contender on either the men’s or women’s sides every other year or so). It’s unfortunate for student-athletes such as myself who work just as hard (or sometimes even harder) than those involved in men’s basketball and football, but it’s the reality we live in today. The MSU Golf teams just got a new, renovated facility last year, so when cross country’s/track and field’s time comes around, they will hopefully get some updated facilities also!

Mark Dudley do you even know what cross country is? It is not true in all cases, but it is typical of a Power-5 conference football player to have a lower college GPA than that of a cross country runner...by quite a bit. And to take a more rigorous schedule and pursue much more difficult-to-attain degrees. I am not stupid, and I’m not ignoring the fact that football and men’s basketball bring in most of the money in terms of ticket sales, merchandise, etc. BUT NOT ALL MONEY COMES FROM THOSE TWO SPORTS! Michigan State has SpartanFund, and that’s how people specifically donate to certain projects the athletic department is working on. Did you also know that not all athletic scholarships are 100%? Probably not. Anyway, football, men’s basketball, and several other sports are automatically full-rides (as long as one is offered). Track and field, hockey, baseball and many more are broken up into “parts,” so there is much more stress on those student-athletes who are fighting for money against their teammates than in those other sports. What in the world makes you think track and field or cross country is not as difficult, or on occasion, even more difficult than football? Cross country athletes have to compete YEAR-ROUND (unlike football or men’s/women’s basketball) because they participate in cross country in the fall, indoor track in the winter and outdoor track in the spring. That makes the education itself MUCH more difficult to get when you’re being shipped halfway across the country to go to an invitational every other weekend. And guess what: football or basketball would not exist if it were not for TRACK AND FIELD, the first ever organized “sport” in the world (dating back thousands of years)!!! Cross country/track and field work in the weight room, get injured, have to go to meetings frequently, go to required tutoring, meet NCAA standards, watch film to work on technique and form and get by with way less money (as we already discussed) than football/men’s basketball. If people knew what it was like to be a cross country runner at a big-time university such as Michigan or Michigan State maybe they would understand that football and basketball are not the only sports that “work hard.” And why in the world are you commenting on a high-schooler’s KZfaq comment made over a month ago? Find something else better to do, please.

Mark Dudley I just realized... you clearly have no clue what cross country is because in the entire history of the NCAA FBS-Division 1 Sports there has never been a football player that has run cross country. (FYI - it’s distance running on various terrains such as grass, gravel, mud, water, etc. and men either race a 8km or 10km race while the women always race 6km.) And when a football player decides to do track and field, their schedule is moderated so both sports are accommodated. Time is split between the two because the two sports actually overlap quite a bit. Sprinters and those in field events have very similar workout sessions to that of a college football player (depending on the gender and size of the track and field athlete/football player, what specific event or position they play, etc.) The main difference is that someone who only does track and field (obviously) does not have to do all of the “technical” training that goes into football. Have fun in your little fantasy world. Or simply research things for yourself. It’s your choice.

Mark Dudle I never tried making an argument about how cross country or track and field make large contributions to university athletic departments. I never said that cross country or track and field have a large following (although track and field does have a decent one). So what in the world are you attacking me for?! I’m not a “whining female” and never once tried pulling an argument about my gender being a factor... in anything. Trying to tell a valedictorian at a high school with +2,000 students that she (or he, since it really doesn’t matter) is stupid doesn’t usually work, just as it hasn’t in your case. And nice job constantly changing your argument/just trying to pick fights with a 17-year old. The fact that you haven’t stuck with the same argument and are constantly changing it to try and “defeat me,” or whatever you want to call it, just shows your initial purpose in commenting was ridiculous. Please get off KZfaq if all you do is search through old videos to troll on people’s comments.

Mark Dudley my KZfaq channel or videos has nothing to do with these comments. Whether I’m 17 or 70 has nothing to do with the initial argument, it just shows others how immature you are for picking fights with a kid. Again, you’re changing your purpose since you have no better arguments to make.
