Thank you, this is a great video that come just in time for what I was looking. I have many years of experience as security engineer working in the DC with many security products such as CP, Cisco and lately Palo Alto. I have been working in n the cloud for some PAN VM series firewalls but I don’t have the cloud experience to know the ins / out of both AWS and Azure to figure my way out how all comes into places. I have been struggling which way to advance my cloud security knowledge and I was trying to match with what most jobs are looking in a candidate, and I didn’t know how to go about doing it. It didn’t not make sense to me to start from the beginning, and way my work up but I don’t have the skills they are looking n those jobs such as automation, scripting, etc. It did not make sense to me to throw my years of experience and switch to other roles such as solutions architect (to make it worth while) but I don’t have the depth of knowledge / experience for those type of roles. So your suggested path, I think it will make much more sense and I think I can see my self achieving all those skills and certs within a year time, so thank you. Just a specific question: 1. There are specialized networking certs for the cloud and what’s your opinion about those certs. I think knowing networking is also important to do security and if you have any suggesting (AWS and azure) 2. I see that there is a shift towards devsecops as well in the industry and I am wondering if cloud security engineers are also expected to fill those roles as well.

You never fail to hit the big points! Certifications are good to get past HR, but practical experience is key to not only getting hired but also becoming an asset. Hiring and Program managers will usually ask practical application questions that can't be answered with A, B, or C. Do those projects for hands-on skill and never stop developing yourself.

Question. I found your videos and they have given me exactly what I was looking for. A cost effective path that is straight to the point. I’ll be learning exactly what I need and no filler. My question is though that when I’ve asked around the community people have said the Google certifications are not really recognized in the community. I remember you saying you did as well attend a University. I’m sure you’ve been in a hiring position by now….Is this true? Will it make getting a job harder? Are employers going to want more and not take these certs seriously? If anyone has done one of these pathways solely and have experience with getting into the job I would like to hear from you as well!

I post weekly success stories of individuals from all over the world who followed my roadmaps, so it works. I wouldn’t worry about ‘recognised’. The skills you learn are ‘recognised’. Also, the google cert is the beginning of you journey, you will be doing a lot more stuff afterwards

Hey UnixGuy, so while i was studying for the az104 recently, i did a lot of hands on guided projects. But had to delete them unfortunately due to cost But i'm pretty comfortable at this point navigating through the azure portal, creating/using VM's, storages, policies, firewalls and load balancers. I have no problem doing them again, but is there a way that i can link them to a portfolio. Well the better question now would be, how and do i even start in making a portfolio? Lol I have zero IT work experience, started messing around with the cloud this past summer. And cloud security has caught my intrigue.

Hi @UnixGuy!! I love this road map! I come from a short-lived vulnerability management background after realizing I did not enjoy it and am now really interested in the idea of Cloud Security Engineer. I have a question about one point in your video, where you said a lot of people narrow down their job selections too much when job hunting. Do you have advice on what key terms and titles to apply for when it comes time for a newbie to search for a job? Like would these certifications and projects be applicable to a regular cloud engineer, or say a regular security engineer? Any others? Thank you so much, 10/10 content as always!

In the US, it's still worth getting the Sec+ for any security job mainly because it will get you past tons of gatekeepers and is literally required for almost anything involving government / government contractors.

I have discussed the ‘HR filters/keywords’ in many videos. Do security+ if you feel strongly about it and you want to apply to a specific government job (DoD). Otherwise no, it is not a must in the US.
