Join me as I take to the wheel of the 2022 Hyundai i20N; the smallest model in the Hyundai 'N' family, which packs the same amount of fun into its smaller frame as it's big brother the i30N.
It's one of those cars, that has the ability to put a smile on your face at the drop of a hat but doubles as a great daily driver for the commute to the office.
The i20N has a playful character, with its raucous exhaust and sporty handling rarely seen on cars that cost $37000; its only real competitor is the equally impressive Ford Fiesta ST.

It comes "only" with manual? Dude this is one of the key selling points. I want to drive the car not the other way around xD. Automatic will never beat a skilled manual driver

@Michael D I don’t mind a manual gearbox myself but unfortunately these days most people choose an auto. If you look at the sales figures for the new i30, I imagine the sales for the manual will be fairly low compared to the DCT gearbox.

@@michaeld614 I didn't need to wait. Got mine from Sutherland days after transferring cash through. I found 3 in stock within Sydney at the time by going through each Hyundai dealerships websites. Found a 4th in Wagga. I called to confirm the stock. You may need to be forceful and demand your buying the car tomorrow for retail. Buggers are buying cars for themselves and after they register can sell for more creating a fake demand for the car. Manufactures need to sort this problem out.

Loved the review on this. I have just placed an order for the 2022 FL 130 Sedan N expecting delivery feb 2023 and I am yet to see a proper review and drive with one of these cars.

I have ordered one and intend to daily drive it. Fuel consumption was a big factor in the decision to purchase this vehicle over it's bigger brother the I30n.

L J P Congratulations, you’ll love it! The fuel consumption is surprisingly good considering how much fun you can have! The i30N is a fair bit higher than the i20N!

Hey mate I just needed to fill mine up today. Had less then a quarter tank and 98 octane was over 2 bucks but it cost me just over 50 bucks. Only a little 40 litre tank but the range is satisfactory. I get average of 7.8 whilst driving like a knob. I can't think of a more economical performance car.

Coming from an MX-5, this is the daily driver in comparison - bigger boot, less brittle suspension and 2nd row of seats

I’ve ordered one from an MX-5 too. Enjoying the reviews (this one is particularly useful, thank you) but I’m daunted about the change from MX-5 to this because the MX-5 was just so damn good…albeit the boot space was definitely an issue!

Unfortunately, the i20N isn’t sold in Romania. Hopefully Hyundai will bring the i20N there in the near future.

Did you experience any rev hang in your time with the car?

@Jeremy and Cian King I did mention in the video how I operated the clutch to try and overcome the rev hang problem.

Hi I think current and prospective owners would appreciate some expansion on the “shift” method you are using, in the hope that this will alleviate the rev hang known in this model, thanks

@@drsonicify I found the best way was to push the clutch in slightly to take up the slack, then push fully when you want to change gear. This way proved much easier than just changing gear normally

I'd still go for the Fiesta ST over the i20N for its engine note (which is often compared to a 911 air cooled flat 6!) The more difficult question would be would I still go for a Fiesta ST over a GR86?...

I’d be disappointed thinking I’m hearing a 911 tearing through a tunnel, only to see a fiesta! Sure, the fiestas are great cars and a lovely drive, but I’ll never be able to shake the ‘Kev car’ image they have. Obviously for good reason they are common, but do they feel as special as the N series, consequently? No…

@@incar95678 TBH (and I haven’t mentioned this), I disagree it sounds anything like a 911 but each to their own, of course. I’m a bit of a fan of the i20N and people rave about the sound of that too, but I think any car of this size will always sound more rorty (or however it’s spelt) than the smooth and elegant purr of a flat 6. Each to their own!

@@WebbyOnCars I see the same 3cyl engine is used in the Puma ST. Ford uses the same 3cyl with less power in the Focus, Escape / Kuga and Bronco Sport.

My only gripe with this car is that it’s not pleasant to drive in slow moving traffic but apart from that it’s a great all round car.

@VW_Paz Cars with a manual gearbox can often become tedious in traffic which is why so many people choose an auto these days. I wish the engine/exhaust made as mush noise as an i30 N though.

This i20N does not come with all the extras. It is missing the 4 heated seats, so it is not a full version. How awful.

@Roswell_ Heated seats aren't as important if a car doesn't have leather seats.

Kind of trivial. I'd prefer to focus on its strong points, of which there are many, rather than features found in more expensive cars. Kinda missing the point with this car.
