Agreed on all counts. Am was the best centre in the world before his injury. He was one of four starters we were missing at the World Cup (the others being Marx, Mapimpi, and De Jager). All are very, very important for us. I think Marx is the best hooker in the World. Mapimpi is our try machine. De Jager was the in-form lock. But Am was the biggest loss. We fielded Kriel instead but he doesn't have the brains to create play from midfield and if Henco is to be a truly great player he needs to model his game on Am.

I see he is not in the invitation practice squad, which is sad. I firmly young talent should be the opportunity to work their way up the ladder because backline player don't have the same shelve life as front row players. Rassie needs to think 2027, yeah, Ireland, Wales and New Zealand, and Portugal tour to SA on the books. Wales and Portugal would be great to introduce them the same way Jaden, Moody, Libbok, and Arendse were introduced. We have time to prepare young talent for 2027. Think future not the here and now. Jaden lost his mojo because of his injury his dad passing and very little game time. You can see he is in his head same with Jordan so I can't see how they made the squad and as a shark supporter I have to be honest about Jaden. Grand is currently nr scrummy and papier not far behind

Boy was he great at school. Don't think I've seen a player as destructive as he was coming out of Monnas. Damian Willemse might be the only one. And yeah it's a pity to see Jan H Wessels struggling, but I think that is Jake White's fault. Wessels should've never switched positions. Moving him to Hooker was a rushed move and stupid. I don't like seeing Wessels as small as he is now, one of his biggest strenghts was his size and athleticism for prop, but now he lost all his size and only has athleticism. But he's still young, and can easily still turn out to be an amazing player, because he has the natural talent.

@@tasanalytics Talking about who could replace Marx in the future and if Wessels was tagged to do that then he's got a few years to try prove himself. Marx also apparently wasn't a hooker to start with, he was a loose foreward. Who do you think the upcoming hookers are to watch?
@tasanalytics
@tasanalytics 4 ай бұрын
@@groenrizla2513 I'm actually a bit worried about our depth at Hooker. In my opinion, I think Grobelaar of the Bulls should be first in line. He's been great when he plays. After him I would say Andre Hugo Venter and JH Wessels. I still think Wessels has to most potential out of all of them, but he needs more experience at the position and I think he needs to bulk up like he was when he played at Grey College. Hopefully we get to see some more options put up their name this year. For instance, Morne Brandon of the Lions was a player I was very high on when he came out of Monnas as well. He was ridicilously good, but he just hasn't developed as I would've hoped. And the issue with a lot of these young guys are their throw in accuracy. It's inconsistent. It might be a coaching thing at u20 level because it's been an issue with a lot of the young players.

Henco is fantastic for 2007 Springbok rugby, a pacy battering ram, but can he do what Am does? Can he read the game 10 pages ahead? Springbok rugby is different now, the backline needs to have brains, brawn and pace. There are other 13's who have pace, a good step, smarts and power. He won't be able to play Am or Moody out of the squad until he can develop the other aspects of the game that are vital for a great 13, good is not great, and great is what is needed to go all the way.
@tasanalytics
@tasanalytics 3 ай бұрын
To answer your question, he's he can do what Am does and potentially even better. Henco's tackling technique is already 2nd to none, and if he can learn under Am, he can potentiall become way better than Am was, and that is saying a lot as Am has been the best 13 ofr a long time. Henco would easily be able to play Moodie out the squad if it's for the 13 position. Remember at schoolboy level and u/20 level, Moodie was a 13. Take a guess who the player was that made him switch to wing? Yes, it was Henco. henco outplayed him and it wasn't close at 13. That's why Moodie switched to wing. You can look at his schoolboy rugby and u/20. Simply put, Henco is a way better 13 than Moodie, as he is great on attack and defence. At 13, Moodie is not the best in defence, although he is great on attack. For the boks, we need a 13 that focuses on defence. And why would you want to change Moodie from wing when that is where he has played his best rugby? if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Also, henco is not just about pace, a good step and power. It's literally his defence that sets him apart. His defence is already top 5 in the world. He doesn't miss tackles, and his IQ on defence is right up there with the very best.

@@tasanalytics Totally agree. He is basically Heinrich Brussouw playing centre. @tasanalytics
@tasanalytics 4 ай бұрын
I wouldn't say extreme speed is as important as acceleration. I think being fast over 40m is more important than your 100m speed. And if we're talking 40m speed, I think Henco is right up there as one of the quickest. He's short, and has low centre of gravity, so he's never gonna be fast over 100m. But he has incredible acceleration and gets to his top speed very fast. I've never seen someone outrun him or seen an incident where he someone runs past him. But I guess there's only one way to find out if he's fast enough, thats to give him a fair shot to compete. Because so far this URC, he's been the best 13 in SA and one of the best in the whole competition.
@mikezog1030
@mikezog1030 4 ай бұрын
@@tasanalytics I would have thought that acceleration is more important the closer you are to the scrum (to hit gaps), while top end is more important down the wing, to be able to cover greater distances standing deeper. Love the moves, but a Springbok centre is traditionally more in the mold of a faster loose forward that can make bone crushing tackles and able to make yards firstly by brute strength alone, then ‘flair’. Can u see Henco stopping a Nonu , SBW or Umaga? He’s more a defensive retarder than a game changing tackler. Hope he improves on his strength and bulk to supplement his natural talent…all the best though, but schoolboy rugby a very different kettle of fish to pro rugby.
@tasanalytics
@tasanalytics 4 ай бұрын
Well if you watched the full video, then you would see the 2nd half is of his defence, and Henco is one of the best defenders in rugby. Most certainly the best defending 13 under the age of 25. I can 100% see him stopping Nonu, SBW, or Umaga with ease. Look at his tackles when he tackles Loose forwards, he dominates them. There are quite a few clips of locks and loose forwards running into Henco and him ragdolling them. You can see his strength in his ball carries, where he runs over people and is extremely hard to tackle. And Henco is way better now than he was at schoolboy level, at schoolboy level his attacking skills was what got him hype. Now at professional level, he has turned into one of the best defenders at his position. I mean he's the only guy in rugby that makes a diving tackle, and within 1 second he is already over the ball to get a turnover. There's not a lot of people that can do that. So he shouldn't get any bigger. He's big enough and he has more than enough strength to dominate in test rugby. If he gets bigger it will only slow him down, which would not be smart.

Was also my concern that maybe he reached the apex of his physical development without sacrificing speed and would have to focus more on reactivity and speed off the mark He’s more reminiscent of an O’Driscol than a de Allende or De villiers. The last ‘small’ Bok centre was De jong if memory serves me right, but he was on a next level in terms of explosiveness and pace and that compensated for his ‘lack’ in size. Me thinks a lot of Springbok success centred around having big centres to serve as loose forwards both on defense and attack. Nothing wrong it works, but an investment into a highly skilled centre would make me smile. He’s got what it takes, but if selectors have a different opinion then what can i or we do? Not to mention the Lions are the worst coached attacking team, they simply never use Henco or the wings. Which is a massive issue I have with their attacking coach. Then you also have Marius Louw who knocks the ball on everytime he touches it, so it is kinda hard for Henco to pass the ball if he never receives the ball in the first place. But despite him getting no ball, he's attacking stats are insane, as he is in the top 10 - top 20 in almost every single attacking stat like clean breaks, defenders beater, tries scored etc. Despite not being anywhere lose to top 100 of ball carries in the URC. Which just shows how effective he is with the very limited ball he gets. If you talking about centres who can create opportunities for wings, that is Henco van Wyk. He's hands down the best outside centre in SA at the moment. It's not even close. Whether we're talking just about attack or just about defence, he's the best. And if we're talking about all round centre who can do both, the only other centre who comes in that conversation is Lukhanyo Am, but he's out of form at the moment.

Whereas Henco is just as good on defence, if not better, but still offers more on attack. As of this current moment in 2024, Henco is the better player. He is more well rounded than Jesse. But of course, you seem to have an issue with Henco and keep on trying to compare him top past legend and act like him not being Danie Gerber, is a bad thing.Now It's Jesse Kriel. Henco is a better player than Jesse, on what premise do you say that?? Jesse may have been the best Bok back line player in 2023 and they have not played since. @@derekallan1341 you didn't read what I said. I'll say it again. I said Jesse is a top 5 centre on defence, and defence alone. He's not even close to top 10 overall, because he offers literally nothing on attack. But for the boks in that World Cup, he was the perfect player because our system relies on defence, which is where Jesse is special. So me saying that Henco is better than Jesse, is not saying Henco is top 4, but if we're talking about defence alone, then yes, I do think Henco is in the top 5 now. He tackles better than anyone else, and has shown amazing IQ on defence. He single handedly made the Lions defence actually good, when they were trash without him on defence. Now if we're talking about overall centre, then yes aagain, Henco is better than Jesse, it's simple, he offers more on attack, and he is just as good on defence, if not better on defence. The thing that Jesse had in his favor, is he had a ton of experience in international rugby, so he was perfect for the World Cup. If Henco played a year for the boks before the World Cup, then I would say he would've been better for the World Cup, but he didn't. So Jesse gave the boks the best chance to win, as he showed in the World Cup. But give Henco a year to learn the bok system, he'll play in that 13 jersey for 10+ years.

@tasanalytics
@tasanalytics 3 ай бұрын
 @derekallan1341 Mate why on earth do you keep bringing up Gerber and his Era? like it was a totally different era where Currie Cup was massive and local rugby was all we had in SA, that is why our local players were stars. Danie Gerber is a legend from that era, but for some reason you try to compare the two. Like they are totally different players. Whereas Gerber was an absolute monster on attack, Henco is a monster on defence. Like Henco is way better than Gerber ever was on defence. That is what makes Henco special. If you're going to compare Henco's attack, or any other centre's attack, to that of Gerber in that era they played, of course Gerber is going to be the best. But in this era you can be as good as you want on attack, if you can't defend, you won't play test rugby. And If you're talking about star power at a young age, do you realize how well known Henco was when he played at Monnas? I'm talking about people who actually watched schoolboy rugby.everybody that watched him, knew he was going to be a star. The difference between now and then is simple, during Gerber's era, if you were good, you played for your province from a young age, whereas with todays game, you have to go through the youth setup, which Henco did, and dominated at every single stage. And now he's doing the exact same thing at the professional level. But like I said to you so many times, you will continue to hate him until he shows he can do it for the boks. Which he will do when he does get his chance. I just hope you can come over that blind hate, and actually support him if he does end up playing for the boks.

@@tasanalytics I say it again I do not hate Henco. Yes he was a monster at school but I do not see the same trajectory os growth of potential since school. Please don't get me wrong but I also think that there are other players around that are as good as him and you just ignore them. My point about Gerber to you is that at 22 he was already a super star. At 22 Henco is still a wannabe and yet you and others are calling him a super star. I must be incorrect because I am in the minority like some others. I stand under correction and if I am incorrect I welcome your correcting me. Players don't have to go the the under.... ranks. If you are good enough, you are good enough. I reiterate again, I do not Hate Henco,, there are players that I dislike but do not hate and then there is Henco who is not living up to his "potential". Lastly I will always support a Bok player and give it 100% but right now he is no better than many of the other 12's or 13's and I wish you would also give them a little encouragement now and again.

Well personally I think his defence is the best for his position, and I don't think it's even close anymore. There isn't a 13 now in SA with the defending ability of Henco. He single handedly made the Lions defence good, when they were the worst for a long time. His attack might not be like that of a Kolbe, but it's still good. But where is is way better than anyone else, is his defensive ability, as it shows in the 2nd half of the video.
