I finally did it. I waited till the end of the video to begin typing. I looked at the original design, and thought "it's gonna wiggle." I also looked at the original setup, and thought the hole needs a cover, or even better yet, a bougie hitch cover would be pretentious as hell in that spot, but fun. Sure enough it wiggled and got a cover.

Love how you do budget DIY’s up normal folk. Questions for ya…. Why didn’t you just use the holes that were there? Also sitting it on the spare tire gains stability but be a PITA if you need to change a flat tire.

Thank you i appreciate it , always enjoy challenging my creativity. I drilled my own holes because the ones on the tailgate were to close together and the head of the 1/2” hex bolts wouldn’t fit up against the tube of the hitch adapter. But if you had this tailgate I mentioned that you can use smaller bolts and do that either way. May not be as strong, but you would have to buy additional bolts. I wanted strength so I use the bolts that came with the adapter. The spare tire will come off pretty easy as I’ve already tried it and we’re good there because that bolt I mentioned passes through a hole i also drilled in the racks tube to keep it from jumping out or going down the tube any further. So it’s locked in that position in addition the hitch tightener is on there too. The tire would hold some weight but I think I’ll be ok just to take the stuff off the rack before I take off the tire. And if i really had too I can easily take the rack off with the same socket size as the lug nuts to remove the tire. I thought all this out prior to the build . The rack is also really lightweight. Just sharing my ideas as I’m sure others may be different. Thanks for watching buddy 🍻
