What a cool video, I love seeing these tutorials, even if I don't use clip studio! They're nice behind the scenes segments. The section about hand-lettering was especially interesting, I'd love to hear more about the decision making process behind when or when not to do it!

Thank you! Honestly, I personally hand-letter things any time I use onomatopoeia, or if I want dialogue to have a specific "voice". For example, in Weirdogs Chapter 4, when Dodger is rambling about his powers to Tom and Sammy, there even is a pretty lengthy speech bubble that I fully hand-lettered, because I felt like having the more inconsistent nature of my actual hand-lettering (compared to the font built from my hand-lettering) lent itself to Dodger starting to grow more incoheren and less put-together.

Hello sir, I’ve been watching a lot of CSP guides all day to find a solution for a problem. Perhaps you know how to make custom balloon tails? As I don’t want a pointed one.. Thank you..

Getting text aligned to the text box feels like a living nightmare. I was hoping this would be something mentioned in this video, but is not. Am I missing something? When I resize the text box, the text moves around unless it's exactly in the center of the box, but there is no way to make sure it is exactly centered, so it's this game of jiggle the box, jiggle the text, jiggle the box, jiggle the text, and so on. Any advice?

@simondrawsstuff 17 күн бұрын
Once you have a text box, pulled up, you can select the entire text in the text box and pull up the "Sub Tool Detail" window (small wrench in the bottom right of the "Tool property" window). Here, go to "Line space/alignment". Select the "Center" Alignment, and select the "Center" Position in frame. Hope this helps you!

Fantastic tips, but sadly the OPERATION category in my subtool palette is missing, so it's not possible to select DRAG. [CSP v1.12.3 · Win11]

The Text Box feature was only added in CSP 2.0, so I'm assuming the OPERATION category was also introduced alongside that.

Gotta be real, i think csp is one of the worst art programs ever. I cannot believe how mainstream it is with how unbelievably user unfriendly it is. No amount of features and tools can overshadow the complete inaccessibility and excruciating nature of its user experience. I shouldn't have to be crippled by every single feature and go on a whole deep dive just to figure out how to use the absolutely most basic functions of the program.

Alright, I'll bite. What art program do you prefer using?

@Sketchisnotreal of course I know that lmao, I appreciate anyone's vids explaining any of the features, I just am expressing a general frustration with the learning process and the system of the program over all, the only reason I'm saying it openly in a comment like this is because I swear I feel like I'm going crazy in general with how obtuse this program feels at times but any time I look anything up about it it just feels like everyone is so casually okay with how impenetrable it can be and the fact that so much of it is just like, literally obscured and it feels like there is not a single drop of intuitive user-flow in its design. I'm making it as a comment to see if ANYONE else feels this way, because I'm starting to feel like I'm in the twilight zone. Maybe I just wildly misinterpreted what and who this program is for, maybe it's not intended to be a friendly-to-use program at all and it is meant to be highly advanced for the highly advanced artist who needs 4 layers of sub functions for hypercustomization options. But I thought it was touted as a program that was at least in past designed with convenience in mind, especially for the webcomic artist. But it feels as unconvenient as it could possibly get, and not just because I'm averse to learning new things. I just would never be okay with this type of enigmatic design for an art program but if you want any of the tools of convenience that it offers for a webcomic artist, you have to learn to tame the beast, and while you have to learn new stuff no matter what, I'm just starting to get real discouraged in my journey to try and get comfortable with CSP.

@simondrawsstuff I only use procreate right now but not because I prefer it most, it's just the one I started out using when I switched to digital two years ago. Before that, like a really long time ago I used to use gimp and sometimes illustrator, but I don't remember almost anything from using those programs so they might as well not be in my background anymore. Even when I was using those I was still primarily traditional, unlike now when I want to try to create my comics in digital format almost entirely. I am highly dissatisfied with a lot of the things that procreate lacks, but I can't really expect it to have those things since it's meant to be bare bones and extremely simplified. I think that's what makes it nice to use and so accessible for new artists, and it gave me a comfortable transition into digital. I've started some comics in there and while it was harder to make them due to extra steps I had to take to workaround features it doesn't have, it still overall is less work than it feels like it takes to perform even the most basic functions in CSP. I don't need a program to be as simplified as procreate to be okay with it, but I feel like it still is easier and faster to do those extra steps then to try to do it in CSP, now obviously I don't have the workclow of a more experienced artist in that program, but it's really the intuitiveness of the program (lack thereof) that I'm struggling with the most. I'm not tech-unsavvy or computer illiterate, and I don't know if it's just because I'm using the iPad version??? But I cannot believe what a difficult time I'm having trying to just get used to this program by my own wits alone. I feel like I shouldn't have to be THIS crippled by the majority of the features, where I feel like I very often literally CANNOT figure out how to use a tool unless I look up a tutorial. And there are so, so, so many tools in this program that the idea of having to do that for almost all of them makes me really want to not bother. Sometimes the user experience is important too and not just the feature set. Nothing to do with you though Simon, and I appreciate your tutorials. I'm just venting as I feel like I must seriously be missing something big time as to why no one seems to be acknowledging this in any vids for intro to CSP. :(

@@adaharrisonn I'm sorry to hear you're having such a rough time with the software. It's honestly been so long since I started using CSP, and switched over to it from openCanvas and Photoshop (which had a similar learning curve as far as I can remember) that I don't really have the best reference for how it compares to other software. I can definitely say I've felt overwhelmed like this about 3D software though, haha. I think it's just part of software with a lot of features. The more there are, the more overwhelming it will be at the start - and all I think you can really do to combat that is to hide advanced features in optional windows and menus. I mean, compare MS Paint to this, I think the only reason it's more intuitive IS because it's simpler and more limited.
