In this talk, David Pawson gives more emphasis to the book of Nehemiah - the story of the man of prayer and faith given permission to return to Jerusalem to organize the rebuilding. Despite opposition, he encouraged the returned exiles to do the work while armed to ward off attack. They completed the repair of ancient Jerusalem’s wall in 52 days because ‘the people had a will to work’. Nehemiah had to deal with internal economic and moral woes as well as external threats and conspiracy. Ezra arranged the public reading of God’s Word so that the people would have an understanding, and had the people renew their Covenant with the Lord. David Pawson compares the two leaders, Ezra and Nehemiah, and says we need both types of men. He says if Ezra was the Bible man, Nehemiah was the prayer man, but he was also practical and didn’t mind putting his hand to cementing. David says he thinks we should be inspired by Scriptural characters, emulating what’s good in them and avoiding their mistakes if we can. Overall, we are looking at the story of God and his people. And God kept his promises to both punish their wrongdoing and to bless their repentance. David reveals the thread of Scripture.

Great video. Nehemiah did actually weep, mourn, fast and pray for a few months before he spoke to the King and it is thought that it was during that time the Lord revealed what was required, and after praying again, gave the King a list of his needs and he was given them.

This morning I opened the Bible randomly at the Book at Nehemiah and because i never read it before, never heard any pastor talk about it, I kind of mumble, "ok God, I'm going to try read this if You want me to..."and to my surprise, very soon my eyes in tears, my heart loved this man, Nehemiah, and leaned so much from the way he was talking to God and prayed before taking decisions or doing anything of importance, or just to share his heart with God. I'm so glad God opened this book this morning for me.

I agree. David readily acknowledges their obsession for money yet fails to see it as idolatry. Not that this nation is alone. It is everywhere now including many churches.

28:56 7x7=49 years 62x7=434 years 49+434=483 years not 490 years. Am I missing something? Where did the additional 7 years come from?

Nashvillain, is your question answered already? If not, here it is. The prophecy given to Daniel in chapter 9 is 70 weeks, which is 490 years indeed.The last week ( last 7 years) are all about the ministry of Jesus Christ, starting with his baptism where He received the Holy Spirit and started His ministry and goes all the way to the stoning of Stephen, where after the gospel went to the Gentiles. With that the prophecy was completely fulfilled. Greetings from the Netherlands.

@@nashvillain171 Hi, I have to" warn" you that most christians believe something else, they believe that the last week ( last 7 years) are still in the future, and call it the great tribulation, one single Antichrist, and the so called rapture of the church before the starting point of those last 7 years. This is called futurism, I was raised in it myself and believed in it for almost 40 years. Until I " discovered" the historicist interpretation of bible prophecy. ( After praying for the truth and much study) . Now I know that much of the book of Revelation has been fulfilled in the course of history. You need to study history next to the bible to understand bible prophecy. Also with the book of Daniel, all his" predictions" have been fulfilled. God bless you in your study of His Word!
@2012jakere

@@margreethakkerman4026 I'm not sure what you mean by futurism, but if it is in its literary sense, then yea, true Christianity is futuristic - the rapture, Christ's 2nd Coming, the great trib, the judgment of Satan and the Antichrist, millennial reign - all are still in the future, but will not be some day. The Christian virtues of faith, hope, and love are future oriented. So also, was God's first prophecy to man: "the day you eat of it, thou shall surely die"; a futuristic declaration that came to pass. So it will be someday, with the "futuristic" declarations of the book of Revelation. Believing that "much of the book of Revelation has been fulfilled in the course of history" takes away one's sensitivity to end time developments and the readiness for the rapture. Such a dangerous false doctrine! You seem to have jettisoned the truth you held dear; Daniel's 70 weeks consist of 483+7=490 years. The last 7 is the period after the rapture of the church. The church age, which is not dated in any bible prophecy intersects Daniel's 70 weeks at the 69th - to resume after the rapture. Rev 1:19 breaks down the book of Rev into three phases of the events to come: 1." the things which you have seen" - 1:1-1:20 (the vision of the risen Christ) 2. "the things which are" - Rev 2:1-3;22 (the state of the church, represented by the letter to the 7 churches) 3. the things which shall be hereafter (futuristic?) - 4:1- 22:21(from the rapture to Christ's eternal reign) At the beginning of Chap 4, the rapture has taken place and John is introduced to the throne of God, and Jesus the Lamb, is set in Chap 5 to open the book (of judgment - represented by the series of trumpets, woes, and vials, etc running through the 7 years of the great trib up to Chap 19. After that, the onset of the millennial reign of Christ. I hope this helps to clarify things a bit for you. Jesus said, we run the danger of going into spiritual errors if we do not know the scripture (Mat 22:29), but if we know the truth, it will set us free from the deception of satan and his false teachers (John 8:32). May God give you understanding.

@@2012jakere Hi sir, thanks for responding. I do however disagree with you. I am very familiar with what you describe and believe. But that doesn't prove anything. You probably learned this view in your church or at seminary, bible school, or in another way. It's all traditions of men ( Roman Catholic doctrines) and not the word of God. Who has given you( them) the authority to cut off the last week of Daniël's prophecy of the seventy weeks. God didn't do that. Did you know that these doctrines like futurism and preterism are developed on purpose to hide the truth about the papacy and their false " church", the Roman Catholic church, which is not a church at all but a mixture of pagan and christian elements. And that they have killed more than 50 million people, who didn't want to bow before the popes and therefore were martyred, persecuted and killed . The Protestant Reformation exposed this false church and proved from scripture that the papacy is the Antichrist ( not a single one man Antichrist but the whole dynasty of the popes). To hide this exposure they came up with new doctrines concerning the Antichrist and placed everything in the past ( preterism) or in the future ( futurism) . The early church and the church fathers were all historicists. For a general overview of this " view" look up David Wilcockson on KZfaq or the website historicism.com Greetings from the Netherlands.

Sorry, but I do not believe that they read the Bible cover to cover non stop. That means that all of those people stayed awake from Sunday evening until Thursday morning. Very implausible.

Well they did read the bible. continuously Genesis to Revelation on more than one occasion and it did take from Sunday to Thursday but. the way they did to was to ask people to sign up to a 15 minute time slot - not everyone stayed the whole time but the church remained open and people arrived some 30 mins before their allocated time and carried on where the last person finished, it was not possible to know what verses you would be reading until you arrived at the Church. and Many non members asked to join in including the local Mayor who was not a Christian ! Many visitors came to the Church out of interest and some heard the Bible being read for the first time in their lives ! It was well documented in the Surrey Advertiser a well know local paper - check it out
