NEW TO ME?
Hi I'm Rich Roll. I'm a vegan ultra-endurance athlete and podcaster. I write books and travel the world giving talks. But mainly I'm a dad of four. My wife Julie is much better at stuff than me. She is a yogi, musician, mom, and vegan chef & cookbook author. She makes amazing nut cheese. If you want to know more, the NY Times wrote a couple things about us:

I browsed through the comments and saw that most people think the first part of this video was rather off topic, and way too business-y. I kind of just get the feeling that these were two well established pod-casters exchanging their experiences and pointers on building their influences. It was a comfortable way to start the conversation since the two of them share a lot in common, and then it segwayed into to Lewis' childhood sexual abuse experiences, and how that permeated into his adulthood. He spent a significant segment of this interview to describe how he finally decided to share the experience in details with a support group, which is what prompted him to realize that he had been wearing a mask all along and that the removal of the mask is what allows him to show up with vulnerability, authenticity, and a powerful presence to connect with other people. I really appreciate the interview.

Rich and Lewis... I have been listening to you since 2013 when I was walking dogs in Chicago. I remember every single day looking forward to becoming a better person by educating myself through your podcasts... I then got a great job, quit, started my own business, ran a marathon, did an ultra distance race, and started my own business. Like you guys said, I feel like I;m your homie! You definitely have guided me and it's crazy to think about how long I've been listening... Cheers!!!

Awesome interview, I am surprised how much I enjoy seeing this in a visual format. I really wish you'd include a slider action so that it's not just static shots (two kessler systems) but this format has been really great.

Thanks Damon. We are learning as we go about how to best translate what is a native audio experience into a compelling visual experience. We will continue to hone and improve -- testing out new things as we get new equipment, etc. Currently building out a proper studio set up which will take this to the next level, so stay with us! Thanks for watching.

Lewis I was so honored to hear this intense part of your story via your podcast years back (maybe 2014) and am very proud that you're bringing it to the forefront of your journey to help other people. We all need (woman here) to remove our masks. We as humans need to be more transparent, open, and then through releasing their stuff, up our game collectively. Bless.

Based on the title, I was initially excited. 40 minutes of marketing deflated my high expectations of what I thought this would be. Rich... A simple edit of cutting out the non essentials would have fixed the problem

Your comment has expressed my sentiments about this video, as do the replies to your comment. I kept waiting for these two men to actually address the topic that was advertised in the video description, and I eventually lost interest. I agree with all of those people here who consider the first part of the podcast to be a complete waste of time and entirely off the advertised topic.

Constructive criticism here. I'm a fan and supporter. But come on man, what's going on with this one? The first 40-45 minutes of this were disappointing and cringeworthy. Not only was listening to your obnoxious self-inflating business chatter annoying on its own, but it was pretty tone deaf when you consider what the topic of the pod is actually about- a very sensitive, difficult topic to cover - and fresh in the minds of many men and women considering the news lately. This conversation falls under the category of missing the mark. It deserved more respect than it was given. The second half was a good effort but I don't think enough homework was done to really address this issue. I hope that you prioritize less casualness when discussing stuff like this. Find someone who has made addressing toxic masculinity their life's work and paint the big picture. This applies to all of the difficult topics you bring to the pod. I underscore that I don't doubt your integrity or effort in endeavoring this talk. Luckily, you're flipping awesome and still manage to impress me on your worst go. But I was so exasperated with this one (and a few others that get a bit condescending to like, working people who will never be CEOs and don't really want to listen to what they do to be amazing for an hour. Not this how to make your fortune BS - we get it, that's what you're into now, but come on!).... Anyway, you're still the coolest cat in my library.

Rich... long time listener here and love your show. I hope this is not taken the wrong way, but I've been noticing in more recent interviews that you are constantly seeming to take the conversation off the guest and turning it back to yourself. I know this is probably just a way of relating to the other, but it's really distracting. I had to turn the interview off, I just couldn't listen anymore. I feel like Lewis hardly got the chance to fully speak!

Well yeah he spent like 10-15 years as a high profile lawyer who probably worked a lot and didn't dedicate any time to anything else. I totally hear what you are saying though, Rich and this guy Lewis are both rich and have lots of privilege and is able to do what he likes, but like other comments have said that Rich inspires people through his words and actions he gives you. Take what you will, and have a nice day. (inspire me to go raw for a week)

You need to address vegans who do not have funds for high tech runners, cool toques, monitors, lightweight bikes, on and on. Take the time to come up with methods and gear more modestly priced for those who don't live with a pool, huge floor space, outdoor buildings and umpteen vehicles. All very good and appreciated to be on social networks but not when it makes others feel inadequate when looking in on your perfect world. I know you addressed this in a much milder form the other day and it was basically a message of be positive. Not enough guys!! There are millions of us who do not have the luxuries you have to create, to run, to play to travel.. Be cool and consider the rest of us

Agreed. I would love to just have my own shipping container home, but his abode and setup blows my mind. Not in the negative jealousy sense, but just in the extreme differences of what our lives are. I think the most profound value is given to people who are filthy rich or dirt poor and it applies endlessly.
@SteinOutWide
@SteinOutWide 6 жыл бұрын
I'm curious as to why you view his place in life as perfect/unachievable. True, these luxuries that they have are the results of opportunities they've had. However, you can't make anything of opportunities unless you take risks and go after them. I can't speak for Lewis Howes, but I would say that Rich Roll has endured a lot of risk to be in his current position, and higher risk does lead to higher reward. He did not always have the money to be safe from day 1 as you've said. I somewhat understand your perspective. I don't have funds to burn on anything remotely as nice as his bikes or other gear (I haven't replaced my running shoes in nearly a year), but maybe if you didn't view yourself as a "rest of us" then you would see it as more achievable. Just my humble 2 cents.

You really need to look inward if you are genuine. nobody talks about 2009/10/11 when Rich was giving all his best spreading the vegan message. No money coming in, can't pay the mortgage, car gets repo'd i can only imagine the stress he would be going through. Now that Rich is on the other side people complain about how 'good' he has it.
