As an Asian kid growing up, I received intelligence praise and a lot of pressure. I’m named after two doctors. Therefore, I stopped applying effort because I was labeled “smart.” When I started failing, my ego shattered and I embraced a heavy learned helplessness. Can you do a video on the praise for intelligence vs praise for effort? Too many parents naively praise intelligence

Amy said what I've been wanting to hear for so loong. My drive goes way beyond academic success since I've wanted to achieve a whole new life that is incredibly hard to get to. Studying is just a way to get there, so the key is remembering the core of the goal, the main WHY, not just romanticizing studying.

the tiny laugh in the end was cute lmao. Thanks for the video girl! it's actually true that it's important to develop good habits and aura for when we are still in our not-so-adult teen phase because when we grow up and when We are out there on our own and figuring out our life, it won't be easy to be able to sustain without the good habits.
@HumanHuman.8 ай бұрын
And thus Amy has clarified through this vlog that 'motivation' alone is just a word that basically refers to 'short' bursts of mental energy to accomplish something, but 'long' term motivational mental energies to accomplish goal relevant tasks come from the DRIVE and the WHY! Life is a marathon, not a sprint, so rather than going after those 'short' bursts of mental energy, find your DRIVE & WHY which are actual motivation. Now that's the narrative that needs to be promoted rather than 'shallow pump you up' so called motivational tropes. And the following 2 quotes mentioned in the vlog encapsulate the notion of DRIVE & WHY really well: “It is our CHOICES, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” ~ Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore (This quote has always been something, hasn't it!) Regarding discovering the WHY: "You have to keep on peeling back the layers of the onion and go really really deep until you cannot go deeper anymore." ~ Amy herself Also, when you mentioned David Goggins, Amy, it reminded me of his book " Can't Hurt Me". That book is a massive powerhouse! And that "You are my WHY." was such a valuable surprise! Thank you!

I've seen other videos talk about this topic but they never really had the same effect since they talked about doing routines, schedules and such, but hearing your parents' story also made me reflect on my own situation and it gave me get a bit of a reality check. The tip about drive instead of motivation was also really good, I realized I usually get bursts of energy when I think about the job I want or lifestyle I want to live rather than grades alone. I think the best tip was peeling back the layers of what you want to achieve and why, in order to get to the root of what you actually want. This is my favorite video from you, thank you! 😊

Hello, This is my first video of you and I came across it at the right time. I was not a bright student since childhood.I was a quite child and not many knew of my existence Because of an incident(not serious at all) in my 4th grade my homeroom teacher changed my place next to the class topper..she her study and be appreciated arouse my interest in studying and that's how i entered the top 5 rank list,this was the beginning of everything. The feeling of being a topper felt surreal and I couldn't give it up so I started working hard and after like three years(7th grade) I secured first place in my class. From then i was first in all of the tests and without knowing it became my identity.I was known as a topper and i loved to be called that.I stood first even in my 10th preboards and my family's hopes of me being the school topper were high(mine were too) but as a shocker i wasn't able to do well in the actual boards and got 2nd rank. I couldn't believe it and all pessimistic thoughts were filled in my head.I wanted to appreciate myself from starting from scratch in 4th to becoming the runner up but that meant my identity wasnt secured anymore .I joined an institute to prepare for the college entrance exam but I'm no longer a topper.I lost all my interest in studying and i do bad in almost every test..there are just 150 days left and if i dont get into a good universitv i dont know how i will be able to define myself..i dont want to give up but am unable to push myself either.. Hope your channel gives me the strength to get back on track❤ This is one of the very few comments i left in youtube and sorry for it being veryyy long..Just wanted to share it!

I think part of it is knowing that your value isn’t tied to your grades. When I was still in HS, I had a depressive episode that lasted like 2 years. I went from 98% average to getting 80s and even failing a class at the beginning of 12th. I didn’t know what to do and I struggled for a long time but I realize that I couldn’t let the disappointment ruin my self esteem. I’m capable but in that moment, I had to heal first. Since I’ve started college, I’ve gotten straight As and praise from my professors and my department (math major). I’m not at my first pick of colleges but I have had great professors nonetheless. I hope you achieve everything you set out to. ❤ Edit: I graduate this May with my BA in Mathematics.

I started subscribing your channel today. I am obsessed with your videos, definitely helping me during all my low energy days in preparing for IGCSE's. You are such an inspiration to everyone, and are such a great example to how it IS possible to be super holistic and balance between so many different aspects. This is coming from someone who started the year with 7 extracurriculars, joined 2 sports teams, but had to decrease that to make more time for exam prep. Thank you for your effort and time in sharing what you got with the world. Keep it going!

Thank you so much for making these videos! I personally have an average big dream, want to get straight As, get into a really god college, get a well paying job so I can financially support myself and my family in the future and hopefully squeeze in a world tour with my family. My drive I think would mainly just be getting praised from my parents and them being able to brag to their friends about having amazing daughters (i have a younger sister) currently in 9th grade/ first year of high school and struggling to study because its soooooooooo boring. BTW new subscriber, hope to check back in when/if im successful

Wooaah! That was truly a great and practical motivating video. It feels much more easier and light. Like phew, I don't have to even overcome that slothfulness.
