Re: the weird knife drawer is probably for steak knives which don't get used that often, but which are a hassle to have in your knife block, or your silverware drawer. As for the drawers with false fronts. use the false fronts to store your 4 favorite cookbooks in. They'll always be right to hand, and it should look a bit homey. @@kardiaheart I believe it was a false front for beauty only. The homeowner would put in colorful beans (a different kind in each drawer). One might be dry green split peas, another dry red kidney beans, another dry lima beans, and another dry black beans, or dry yellow corn. Hi Becky!! So...the best thing I ever did with my tupperware/snap containers is I store each one with the lid ON. Solves the following: 1. They stay together. 2. The inside of the containers remain dust-free. 3. No guessing on what lids fit. 4. They stack and stay neat!
@lisawallace3124

seems to me they would take up a lot more space that way? I just bought a bunch of lock & lock that are all the same size. (seriously, like 40 of the same container) They stack perfectly, all the lids fit all the containers, they happen to fit perfectly in my work lunch bag, and since they are rectangular (as opposed to round) they fit better in the fridge!

Becky, the smartest thing I did when moving was to unpack, label all the cupboards, drawers and shelves with green painter's tape and a sharpie, and then move the labels (and stuff) around until I figured out the way the kitchen worked best for us. @@ngaiosbrain Sorry if I wasn't clear, haha. I mean actually make labels out of painter's tape and put them on your cupboards, shelves and drawers. On the outside, where you can see them, of what you've put inside. Often the first try at arranging things doesn't quite work, so this was a way for me to move things about a bit until it felt like everything was in the right place. Plus, when my kids were younger, I kept the labels up for a while (maybe a month?) so they could figure out where everything was in our new kitchen 😃

Having 4 children I moved them often. I use clean sheets of packing paper to line the wire racks in the pantry. If they get grungy just change the paper. Freezer paper works well too. Take lots of breaks, put your feet up and stay hydrated. I really enjoy your videos.

You might want to rethink replacing the wire shelving in the pantry with the solid wood. As I was watching it occurred to me that if that’s solid, you won’t be able to see through it like you can now and you’re ALWAYS going to have to grab a ladder when you want to look up there for something. This way you can see through the shelves into your glass jars and go right to it instead of dragging your ladder along the length to find what you need…

Hello. I would like to give a couple of suggestions: - You could use some of the moving boxes' cardboard to lie on top of the wire shelf. It would protect them from getting dirty and it would give you a more stable base to place items on top of. Since you are planing on renovating the kitchen this could be a temporary option bu if you would like to have a more durable solution you could try wood or other materials. - You could put some cooking book in those display areas of the drawers. I don't know if they would fit but it's an option. Hope any of these ideas would be of help. Excuse me if I made any mistakes writing this, English is not my mother language.

Just an idea… the glass display fronts on the four drawers might look good if you use one of your favorite decorative fonts, with a border, or something…..and print out on paper what is in the drawers… sort of a “beautiful label” to help friends and family know where things are kept when they are helping to clean the kitchen… you are getting things done quickly! Great job!

Those drawers were originally made for bulk items, ie beans. So you fill the front of them to know what's in the back of the drawer. And it could look cool with dry goods, beans rice etc. But if you need space for bowls, then better for that! You're doing great 👍

Becky, re: Glass drawer front compartments: I’ve seen people fill those with various shapes and colors of pasta and/or beans for decorative purposes. If you didn’t want to do that, you can use self stick frosted vinyl covering for the inside of the glass. It comes in patterns and colors but since you like simple decor, you could get something very plain.

These kind of drawers were all the rage several years ago and generally you would display grains, beans, macaroni, etc. behind them. Drawers with glass fronts, front sections - spaghetti noodles, rotini, egg noodles, rice, lentils, dry beans & peas, dried hot peppers, dried tomatoes, etc. Pretty sure there are polycarbonate containers (or even mason jars) that would fit that front section of each drawer and those would make a nice & also utilitarian usage of those front drawer spaces.

You could also consider redoing the front of the drawer with a solid front, utilizing more drawer space for practical items since they are basically unusable space now and doesn’t sound like you have extra space in your working area. No idea if this is good timing to suggest but will anyway. Trash can under sink: Could it be either on a roll out shelf as well or even do a new door that you can open with a foot touch instead of hands? Sinks: Not seeing it yet but maybe kitchen and downstairs garden kitchen could have a sink with foot pedals as well....? Microwave area: Cut that whole tumor away and make it what you want. I mean we all know Josh can definitely make that area better with no sweat. Pantry: Maybe mount a pull down shade (something nice not basic) for shelving where vinegar is Can the boxes slide on a blanket where they're going so you don't have to carry? Along with so many want to add affirmation to you that you're doing very well with this multiple plate spinning situation. You have a lot to be proud of in your work life.

Love how you go through the thought process of how and why you're putting certain things in certain places. I can see the puzzle pieces coming together to make a beautiful picture 🙂. Have you considered placing some of your flowers from the garden (after they're preserved for use in your different projects) in the shadow box fronts to the quad of cabinets? Assuming that if they're sealed tight it shouldn't effect the other items in the cabinet. You could get another use out of the flowers as a decoration before they're made into something else.
