Jinger said something along the lines of "Honouring my parents is about respecting them but not obeying everything they say " and I think that is so powerful. I really struggle with boundaries and I think reminding myself of this is going to massively help!

Jinger talks normally now. The rest of her family have a formula for speaking. The words they say, the cadence of their sentences, where they take a breath, and the way the women pause for the man and just smile and shake their head and agree with what they say. She has her own brain now and her husband respects her ideas. I love it!

I was raised up in a church where there were so many restrictions & I missed out on so much of my childhood. When I got older & had a child I refused to raise them up in a certain denomination. I wanted my child to enjoy her childhood with NO regrets. It wasn’t until I was older & went to Bible school & in study the word I realized that was man made rules and not Biblical @ all ! It was so freeing and free from the condemnation as well ! Jeremy, has helped Jinger to see it was man made laws. I love 💕 that he was grounded enough in the word to say No! No ! The most delicious irony of the Duggar family is that, so far, every single daughter who has married has ended up defecting from the family ideology. Jim Bob chose his daughter's husbands, and their husbands lovingly and compassionately led them away from a cult of control, isolation, repression, and deception. Every single one. These girls were never treated like whole people by their own parents. They were treated like commodities, and their religion taught them to believe in their own depravity and lack of self-identity. They weren't people; they were vessels. Then they met young men who treated them with dignity and respect, who treated them like whole people. There's no going back to dehumanization once someone you love has affirmed you are, in fact, a whole person deserving of dignity and respect.

I attended a "Basic Life Principals" seminar in 1972, my senior year in high school. It was held in a packed coliseum. I actually found the notebook in my hope chest a few years ago. I was shocked to find out that was the religious sect the Duggar family is in. Everybody went, it was pushed in all the Seattle high schools and "Young Life". I keep it, planning to read through it someday. No thank you, however, I do love the Duggar children. I've enjoyed seeing Jinger blossom into the beautiful woman God wants her to be through Jesus our Lord and Savior. The Lord blessed her with a wonderful husband.🙏🏻✝

I see her heart and appreciate her level of understanding for her parents mindset and intentions. Her dad chose her pedo brother over his daughters multiple times. I'm not saying they can't love their parents. But they are clearly conflict avoidance that's ok if what they want but it's not superior to speaking the truth to someone who is practising evil. Jim Bob covered up Josh's crimes and tried to lie about them. The Bible says everything done in the dark will be brought to light. Some conflict is also Biblical.

I'm glad they touched on the fact that reading the Bible requires learning and diving into context, historical and author/audience. The Bible was written at a different time, in a different culture, and those influences are present as the Bible was written by men. I also learned what unconditional love was when I had my daughter. The way I saw and felt about her, I was able to connect to how God sees and feels about me. I have so much more peace and joy in my relationship with God now, with that understanding.

I grew up homeschooled with the IBLP background and going to what I called “homeschool camp” which was the Big Sandy conference. In 2018 we started going to the Duggars house every Friday, such a sweet family and I made great friends, we had to wear skirts at Big Sandy and their house which we didn’t have to do in our day to day lives (which was so lukewarm and confusing) my parents say “chew the meet, spit out the bones” (I do not agree with) but long story short. I saw an interview about Jinger releasing her book and she and Jeremy speaking on it, and I completely had a melt down because everything I had known felt like a lie. So my husband surprised me with her book and it completely changed my life. I’m beyond thankful Jinger decided to do what she did. And now have an even closer relationship with God than ever because I’m not scared anymore. The teachings were absolutely confusing and my family/parents still are teaching it. So still have to navigate through that. And still disentangling some things step by step. But I have faith that God has a plan. Thank you Matt and Abby for having them on! I couldn’t wait to watch!
@ggmcsassy

So glad you found your way out of that! The "chew the meat, spit out the bones" CAN be a good way to see life but then again, I can't imagine making my family attend IBLP, wear skirts and "act the part" and pretend .... that would be SO confusing to children! 😥 My dad went to a few IBLP conferences in the 70's but ultimately saw it for what it was. We had a beautifully illustrated book with short stories in it that was a Gothard book and my dad would read to us here and there but would come to a part that was "off" and would say, "okay that's weird.." and skip it. LOL The key is to know scripture and only use that as a measuring stick to all other teachings and ideas!

I would like to just say,that Jill and Derrick asking questions after receiving a tax statement saying they made income they never received wasn’t them “making things about money” Jim Bob reported that information to the government and they asked for a breakdown. Jill wanted to be financially compensated for a show that had her name in the title and was requiring her and her husband to keep a filming schedule and forgo other streams of income while Jim Bob got paid wasn’t them “making it about money” Jim Bob made things about money when he started selling his family’s time and likeness on television in exchange for material items and money. He then continued to make things about money when he allowed his children to receive a daze and proper wage without him being in control. God loved truth… call a spade a spade. The love of money is wicked even when it’s precious Jim Bob. Poor Jill and Derrick get held to the highest of standards and judged the most harshly but Jim Bob can never do any wrong even when he is guilty of the very issue being discussed. Poor Jill’s muffin is the families scapegoat and Josh(of which no one but Jill will openly truly call out either Josh and the parents for) is the golden children. Truly so sad.

There were so many parts where he was clearing up the confusion of the system explaining things in ways that weren't dooming or judgmental but just matter of fact. They're both incredibly classy. They took not just the high road but three layers above that when it came to all of this because she could have blown that family out of the water. And good for knowing that she only wants a couple kids. It must be so freeing having spent your whole childhood terrified that you were going to be a baby factory and getting to choose not to be. Really interesting interview probably my favorite one so far. You guys do a fantastic job of getting interesting deep conversations seem comfortable.

I love how Ginger's faith and relationship with God has actually grown stronger and that Jeremy took the time to bible study with her and help her out of the "fog" of Bill Gothard's teachings. I love that they are still following Jesus together and that it didn't turn her away from following Him. God bless them. Lots of love ❤

What’s sad is that Jinger is essentially saying that if she makes a big deal about not getting paid from the show her parents will disown her. That’s just so messed up.

She knows what happened to Jill. Sadly money clearly matters to Jim Bob more than his own children

I understand why they didn't push it but I am so glad that Derick and Jill did. (Probably owe that to Derick more than Jill but...) People need to know that those kids were making money for the show and not being given any of it. And it's wrong. I really respect Jill and Jinger both even with different approaches.

I don't think that's what she's saying at all. Though I can see how it can be perceived that way. People are driven by different things. Her sister pushing for the money is not wrong, because she deserves to be paid. But some people are genuinely not driven by money. I think what Jinger is saying is that if there's any chance she can maintain a relationship with her family, she will do it. But it's on her terms. I think both sisters are awesome and went about it so awesome.

I remember thinking she's going to be the one that rebels. Not the first but she definitely did. Thank goodness each of them that gets out of it.

Jinger and Jeremy have quickly become some of my favorite "influencers". They are both so well spoken and truly seem like genuine, good people. ❤
