Back when this Game came out, my Father decided to buy our first PC. Unbeknownst to him he bought one the most expensive Gaming PC´s available which came with a bunch of Accessories and Games, including UT99. So as a 7-year old boy, i installed it and got immediately hooked. Every Time my parents were away, I would end up playing Facing Worlds, standing on top of one of the Towers and Sniping the shit out of the enemy Bots, chaning Monsterkills in the process. This ended a couple of months later, when one evening - i was playing UT way past my bedtime - my parents came home from a party, only for them to hear in shock M-M-Monsterkill or the anguish Screams of dying Bots and dismemberment sounds coming from the PC Speakers. This Game has a special place in my Heart...

I used to play UT99 as a kid, and it's incredible how your childhood experiences seem to hardwire your brain to certain things. Every time I listen to this style of music I get really nostalgic. Recently I decided to search for some of the games I played as a kid and it all makes sense, as they were an integral part of my upbringing and many things I appreciate today date back to those experiences. I'm still trying to find all the maps I used to play, I'm not sure if they were mods or not. Either way, what a game!
@ArnieMcStranglehold2 жыл бұрын
Wanna hear something equally nostalgic? Look up the album artists for this game and several other of your favorite games from then. Alexander Brandon has been involved in SO MANY of the childhood games I remember. I wanna meet that man and thank him for a lifetime's worth of memories through music.
@mikerelvas2 жыл бұрын
@@ArnieMcStranglehold Alexander Brandon, Brian Tyler, Amon Tobin and a few others come to my mind. There's a familiarity in their symphonies that, even if you find them in another videogame or even movie, you can recognize it because they've been present in your life for such a long time. I don't play videogames much anymore, but to be honest I feel like that uniqueness is not present in more recent games (exceptions apply).

@JordanManfrey (friends and) I did this as a teen as well, 2004 or so. We played Skulltag (Doom 2 DM/CTF) on the Dells. Anyway found out that Net Send was still enabled on every PC... so I tried it. net send "moo". And it popped up on every teacher's computer within a minute or two. Oops. Next day we visit the Principal's office. It's the new one, and we're the new freshmen. She yells at us for fifteen minutes in the meeting room about wasting school resources before making us call our parents. All the parents chuckled or didn't care. But no, that Principal, she was like "I have to show these teens I mean business!" Now, twenty years later, I'm IT support/admin. I worked for a school district for a few years, and the kids can sneak games via Chrome extensions to work around the Admin listing rules. As long as it's not pr0n or malware, have fun :)

Man, what do you mean you passed out and dreamed you were in the 2020s? It's still 1999, you are at a LAN party since the last 72 hours with all your friends and we have summer holidays. We're starting a new round of UT, are you in?

I was born in 2003, so obviously too young to know this game at its peak. Though, I remember playing this map on a TF2 community server and having a lot of fun, despite it being a little unsuited for TF2's weapons (some weapons were way too good). This map, the space aesthetics and this amazing DnB song are really nice - it's uncommon to see such simple yet cool things made today.

First of all sorry for my english.:/ Before 1999 (like others) i played with player vs enviroment FPS games like Quake 1-2, Halflife and many other games. Than i installed UT first time and try to play against something else... Bots. When i noticed first time i rly did not belive what am i see. An AI and a solution what can simulate and play like a human. Cooperate, help, kill each others.. This was my biggest shocking thing what i experienced first time in the world of computer games. Bots are totaly changed the gameplay in these times. And now i happy to see the UT4 is following the first UT's atmoshere finaly. Best HC FPS eva'!

Man, Unreal Tournament 99 was one of my favourite games as a young teenager. Loved spending hours after school on single player Facing Worlds back in the day. This along DM-Morpheus guaranteed hours of fun! Still two of my most favourite maps of all time of any FPS - so simplistic yet so fun and with brilliant and imaginative design. Luckily, the game is still available in Steam. Amazing nostalgia! Huge props and respect for Inoxx / Cedric Fiorentino who created these two of the greatest maps, as well as for Michiel van den Bos who made this amazing soundtrack

OMG Face and Face 2 were awesome stages. I never played this game personally, but I use to watch my brother play this when I was a kid. I remember one day the disk let me listen to the soundtrack instead of the game poping on, it was weird, but this song will always be my favorite.
