Andy Irons is known for his big heart, crazy generosity, kindness, fiercely competitive nature, raw surfing ability, pure style and creative power. This Kauai Boy rose to the top of the surfing world and left us devastated by his untimely passing. Tragic loss. Sincere condolences to his wife Lyndie, his brother and parents, his family and close friends. We respect, admire and honor Andy. Rest in Love

The instinctive ability to put him and the board anywhere he wants is timeless. Dig the rail, slow it down and make it easy. Absolutely fun to watch. Makes you want to surf. Nothing overly constructive just natural flow. Can’t see another A.I again.

Still gets to me. I surfed with him at Pinetrees on Kauaii right before this trip. He’d flunked out his first year on tour and was just floating, regrouping, keeping the fire going. We paddled for the same wave and he had a look in his eye I haven’t seen since; I call the ‘eye of the tiger’. I knew if he got his act together he’d be a force, a wrecking ball, and he did, and he was. He went on to win three world titles right after and put the absolute hammer down on king Kelly. A memory I’ll always cherish. To see Sunny at his peak, just sad now. Shooting stars burn the brightest, but they’re not meant to last. R.I.P. Andy and I hope Sunny finally has peace. Much love from Puna.🤙🏼🤙🏼🌊🏄🏼🌴🌋

Being a Puerto Rrican, on youtube, sometimes I like to listen to 70s salsa, old flamenco, surf videos, history, and many more, but this little clip has to be my favorite on KZfaq. Sick style power etc. When I first saw Andy I was stoked style and grace were back in surfing. Him Bruce and Dane Reynolds got me stoked again. I was always stoked with my surfing and ignored contest because I just wanted more waves. Contest are so funny now that they are boring. The contests do help the surfers when they free surf sometimes.

Puerto Rican? 1st.... I love surfing in P.R. Especially east of San Juan .... The food. The people. The weather. The culture. 2nd ... I think most professionals in all professional sports are changing. Look at baseball. MLB players would never have a laugh with the visting teams. Now, they're all buddy buddy. I think it's because they know they are in a VERY VERY VERY exclusive club being the best of the best of the best. How is Pudge Rodriguez supposed to not like A-Rod or Jetter ONLY because they're Yankees or David Ortiz because he's a Red Sox? These surfers like hanging out with each other much more than stink eye'n each other. R.I.P. Andy and basically Sunny, too.

Andy had such a primal connection to the natural ocean surroundings and it lit his surfing on fire. He is unmatched in his hard core approach to riding waves. Respect.
