Robert Stack and his calm demeanor and haunting voice made this series what it is..
@dougware

I personally can't comprehend how his voice is haunting. Growing up on Unsolved Mysteries, I enjoy falling asleep at night to his voice. Now the random screaming or other sounds during reenactments is another story while I'm trying to fall asleep. I had a girlfriend years ago ask me if I enjoyed falling asleep listening to William Shatner's voice. I don't know how you get those two confused.

@@dougware Haunting in a good way, not a scary way, haunting is phrase not always associated with fear or being scared. Someone saying a song is haunting is not telling you it envolkes fear… If you don’t understand then you just don’t understand.

I miss alot of late 80's early 90's t.v., I sort of wonder if they were better because of the rose colored glasses I seen them thru. The reboots just don't seem as good as the originals, and I had a comparatively good childhood. Idk know exactly, but the Roseanne reboot just ain't the same after she o.d.'D on oxy's. There are some that changed their minds in the midst of an investigation or are at least open to the possibility of something else. Its the ones who are so dead set in their initial ruling even in light of new evidence that drives me nuts. Sure enough in the case of this "accident", turns out her husband killed her but he ended up with nearly two decades of freedom after the fact before he cowardly offed himself.

From the time I first saw the Kathy Bonderson segment over 20 years ago, even as a kid, I thought that sheriff was full crap. A car hits the railroad tracks so hard that it ruptures the fuel tank and causes a fire? That's just not physically possible. It was clearly the husband. It's a damn shame he continued to live as a free man until he took the cowardly way out and committed suicide.

@@jbcatz5 I don't know. I can buy that a mom was out at 2 am driving around with a full jerry can on her lap, hits the train tracks and spills the gas all over herself as she bounces around the cab like a kid on a sugar high. With the gas can flying out the window 300 yards away after the car gently rolls into a slight depression on the side of the road. Something something gas lights on fire, melts the car, cooks Christian Bale's mom but somehow repairs the gas line and any structural damage on the underside. North Dakooohta professional steps in, busts out the crayons and figures it all out. Case closed dontchaknow.

Hmm. About the amnesia: When my mother was sixteen, she was struck by a drunk driver and in a coma for six months. She had complete retrograde amnesia and I recently asked her what it was like from her perspective right after waking up and knowing nobody. Could she even understand what people said to her? She said, "Kind of, but not." She couldn't really explain it to me, but she said that everything was so confusing and frightening to her that nothing really seemed to make sense at first; that it went just beyond not recognizing anyone in her family, or not recognizing herself in a mirror. My mother didn't know what shoes were, what food was, what a doctor was. She sensed it, in a way, she said, but her doctor saying, "I'm your doctor" wasn't something she really understood until he said, "I will take care of you," something she did understand, so she trusted him. By and large...she had to relearn everything more or less from the ground up. She didn't even know food was to eat, but the act of eating made her understand quickly enough. It was like reconnecting dots to vague concepts and it would make sense eventually. My mother was fortunate that she had so many siblings who willingly stepped up to the plate to help her along. She relearned to walk, talk, read, write, and managed to return to school within a year, and met my Dad not long after. She's just beyond lucky that she made a complete physical recovery aside from the amnesia, because her body was a shattered mess. She was also very fortunate that she re-established family bonds with her siblings and mother (yes, her father too, but he was a bit of an asshole from everything I've ever known about him). They had been told she was going to die, so all her stuff had been given away, so there wasn't much to remind her of what she had lost...which didn't help. To this day she will never get back most of her memory. After a couple of decades she did begin to remember bits and pieces of her past, and she remembers the day of the accident, but not actually being hit. She was lucky to be alive, as her first boyfriend was killed and the drunk driver barely got a slap on the wrist for the entire mess. I've seen newspaper clippings and photos of the wrecked car, as well as heard my aunts and uncles talk about it. It was terrible all around. Mom's got a few body scars and partial false teeth, and a very slight tendency to be forgetful, but she made a recovery they predicted could not happen.

This Sheriff strikes me as either prideful or lazy. He most likely thinks he is smarter and therefore correct regarding the case so his mind is closed to any other possibilities. He is literally IGNORING all the evidence to the contrary. He is the only one involved who says there are no facts which point to foul play. Edit: I'm so glad they posted that update. It really makes me feel validated. I knew that he was wrong. Smh. Why are so many law enforcement officials so incredibly arrogant when it comes to admitting that they're incorrect or that they've made a mistake? It's insane how close to impossible it is to get verdicts overturned or cases reopened etc, simply based on the fact that so many of these men are just full of pride and can't admit when they're wrong.

Alas, positions of authority are often attractive to people who have that very weakness. Many police and other such figures believe that. . . A) doing their job depends on how much respect they get, and not vice versa. B) the public must be pacified by the perception, real or otherwise, that the authorities are firmly in charge, and have everything under control. Even if it's not true. Based on those combined misperceptions, a lot of cops will hand down a quick verdict and ignore any possibility that they're wrong, believing it's for the best. And that's the ones who aren't "in on it," which is another reason to obstruct an inquiry.

The amnesia was caused by the two ruptured vessels, and the fact she had any memories left at all was do to the operation. A little critical thinking can go a long long way. I had a hunch it was the husband seeing they had an argument about their son (fact was the son was gone and I doubt that was the first time that happened or the arguments) and the fact her car was speeding from the direction of the home (like a perp was trying to get away from the scene the crime fast) yet the husband was alive and he was last to see her alive. He either knew the murderer, was the murderer or lucky enough to not be seen by the murderer by hiding which was never mentioned by him. Any other instance the husband would have been the prime suspect. What gives? You don't need 18 years to figure that out. Stupid.

This may be neither here or there growing this old couple in my neighborhood the cadilac they owned went up in flames about 2 in the morming. The fire investigation determined that the car self combusted from faulty electronics. My mechanic across the street told me that cadilacs have been known to do that of that era. Additionally right next door five years ago the car caught on fire from squirrels laying nesting material on the engine block. Those people moved shortly thereafter the wife was traumatized.

22:15-22:35 Golly, you know what? I’m kinda curious towards more details! What made the investigators think to go after her husband? And what was his (possible) motive? EDIT: I Google Searched this case, and found it on the Unsolved Mysteries Wiki Page. According to it, ”During the investigations over the years, it was discovered that Robert had started dating another woman a few months prior to Kathy's death. Also, he had taken a $50,000 life insurance policy out on her just two months before. It was also discovered that Jamie, who had seen her car driving by him on the night of her death, had stated that Robert was the one driving it. His girlfriend confirmed this, as she had written about it in her diary. Investigators now believe that Kathy was killed at her home and placed in her car. They believe that Robert drove her to the railroad crossing and set her car on fire. The case is now considered closed. Sheriff Ed Allmaras passed away in 1997.”

Signs, possible symptoms? I am so sad for that family. I am so glad they now have an answer. ♥️ May the ones that passed rest in peace.
