This has to be one the best hidden secret videos on KZfaq. Great concise information. It seems quite a 'Common Sense' once you know it but it is definitely not common at all. Great video.

Powerful yet brilliantly simple. I've tried several methods of trading the equity curve using horizontal line methods and varying risk % during drawdown. Always worked out better to trust the system and leave it be. Never considered a diagonal line like the moving average. Back to testing.... thanks bro.

Backtesting it doesn't work for me. But it's still a good idea to play around with

Fascinating observations on the nuances of trading the equity curve. You effectively highlight the benefits derived from laser focus on a key metric of real world trading feedback, and also, imo, a seeming Ralph Waldo Emersonian esque notion of "...going an inch wide and a mile deep" into a experiment in the relentless search for the truth in trading, and as if by alchemy into broader life applications. If convenient, please add further real world examples of your equity curve trading, and how you allocate capital in terms of percent of portfolio bankroll based on market feedback from your system equity results. Thank you for your inspired efforts to educate traders across the world in a way Larry, I'm sure, would toast you with a glass of Dom Perignon champagne for your efforts. The truth shall set us all free in trading results, as well as on the higher spiritual "levels" of life.

Thanks for video. But how to implement this in Multicharts? I have no idea

I actually do this manually. I export the trades from MC and put them into a spreadsheet. Here's a video I made showing how to do it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gMubZM6G0ZfOnJs.html

You are clearly a very smart man but remember to fully break it down for people who may not know what you mean. You didnt explain what you actually mean by "trading your equity curve" and honestly that made the rest of the video very confusing for me

Correction: you actually did!! But it was much later in the video than expecting (like 5 mins+ in)

Great information. However you forgot to say how do you tell 'when to get back in the market?' or after 'what period of time do you trade the system again?' These necessary bits of information enable this 'equity curve averaging' thing to work! One of the following ways will enable this good idea to work.. . 1. You continue to trade the system on paper, or say with Excel. That way you can tell when and if the system is working again. 2. You're backtesting the system every week or month to see if it's profitable again. 3. You continue trading the system with a much smaller equity amount, so that you can still monitor the results until the system is profitable again. . The way I do it is to have my algo-EAs sum the last 10,20,30 trades pip results and stake a portion of equity according to those 1,2 and 3 averages on equity. If trade results for an indvidual system isn't above any of those 3 averages then it trades with just .01 microlot to enable monitoring of the system. Drawdowns are greatly reduced by this proactive equity management system.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! For the sake of this video, my answer is similar to your number 1. You should continue monitoring performance by paper trading and only start with real money again when the equity goes above the moving average.
