After I finished watching this excellent conversation, I went back to relisten to the story about the mother who lost her son. That's such a powerful story, and one of the most important points Sensei Koshin makes is how in a moment of need, a person doesn't need people saying nice, positive things. That's not what the person needs. They just need your presence and to be witnessed.

Can any one here tell me if this is the zen group in up state N.Y that Leslie Kean helped found? Has any one here ever heard of her and such an idea? Leslie Kean Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Leslie Kean is an investigative journalist and author who is most notable for books about UFOs and the afterlife.[1][2] Background In the late nineteen-nineties, after a visit to Burma to interview political prisoners, she stumbled into a career in investigative journalism. She took a job at KPFA, a radio station in Berkeley, as a producer and on-air host for “Flashpoints,” a left-wing drive-time news program, where she covered wrongful convictions, the death penalty, and other criminal-justice issues. Kean is the daughter of environmentalist and philanthropist Hamilton Fish Kean and the granddaughter of Congressman Robert Kean.[3] Her uncle is former New Jersey Governor Tom Kean Sr., and her cousin is New Jersey State Senator Tom Kean Jr. She attended Spence School and Bard College, and helped "to found a Zen center in upstate New York".[4]

Not that I'm aware of. Koshin is one of the founding teachers of the NY Zen Center, the other is Sensei Chodo Robert Campbell. Here's their about: zencare.org/about/
